Listen I was always denied a loan when I filled out those online payday loans, but then less then a year late "StateWide" calls me stating I owe a payday company that sent a loan to my account that I never received. I spent two days checking the history on my bank statements and not one deposite of a payday loan was accepted. So how is that fair to me that I have to be threatened to pay a loan I had never touched in the first place?

Got a call from a "private number" who left a voicemail about needing me to contact the firm before they arrive today at my place of business to serve me papers.  I called the number back (I know it's a scam, but wanted to see what would happen).  I keep getting a voicemail saying "Thanks for calling Moo La Vee."  No one ever answers, and I have called that 8772395603 number a few times.....total scam!!  The person who left the voicemail on my phone is James Reed

These collection agencies are all ILLEGAL. They harass and threaten but have carry no weight.  No legal leg to stand on.  If a collector is calling you get as much info as possible.  Name, phone numbers, dates and times of calls.  If they keep harassing you threaten them back because YOU have a legl leg to stand on.  They cannot take your home and no one will be knocking on your door.  The reason they have your number is that a debt forfeited and the original debtor sold it for pennies on the dollar.  The original debtor wrote it off and took a tax break on it.  If you are a senior then that falls under "harassing a senior citizen". For more info see Pearl Polto on YouTube.........!!!!

You did the right thing.   These scammers always talk about how "you're going to be prosecuted".   How do they know one way or the other what a public prosecutor is going to do or not do.  These damn fools act like somehow or another a civil debt like an old loan is somehow going to be magically transformed into an attempt to defraud a bank.   If you were charged with an attempt to defraud a bank the police would have interviewed you.   The debt scammer has nothing to do with what the police or public authorities are doing one way or the other.

It's just so much garbage, but the scammers keep putting it out trying to get money from people who don't think.

I have been receiving phone calls from these people for the last several months off and on.  I even changed my cell phone number and they have just today called my brother, who lives six hours from me, and told him that I was in some big trouble and needed help.  The woman told him she was trying to help me and she needed my phone number.  Well he is smart enough to know that if I were in trouble I would call him myself and he would never give my phone number to someone he doesnt know.  When he refused to give her my phone number and started asking questions about who she was she hung up on him.  Worst part is I am a single woman who lives six hours away from my parents, siblings and entire family......this lady had the nerve to tell my brother I was "in some big trouble".  It scared him to death!  Do you people not have any concern for other people?  What if he had told my mom and dad before he contacted me?  My dad is sick with a very rare form of muscular dystrophy and my mother is a fragile diabetic.....any stressor can send either one of them in to a health crisis.   WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I got a few messages like that and I am not savvy and I fell for it. Then my g/f researched the phone number for the caller id and came across this, so i cancelled my credit cards and took action toward my bank accounts. They said a lot of the same stuff as stated that I had a payday loan that wasn't repaid and I was going to be charged with an attempt to defraud a bank. I'm just waiting for them to call back so I can words with them because my cards are cancelled.

I got a call from these people yesterday and they called my boss as well. They didn't have my cell phone number to call because I have changed numbers 5 years ago. They said they were coming to my job in 20 min with papers to serve me. I told them to come on and I would meet them at the front. They never came.

In NC it is illegal to come after anyone regarding a payday loan. I didn't take it out and they keep claiming they have my identification on file. I called the NC attorney generals office and spoke to Jennifer, she stated that this is a scam and they are trying to get "free" money. She said there is nothing i can really do to stop them but I feel better no one is coming to my job to embarrass me. If you get these calls and your in NC call the Attoney Generals Office, they will give you all the information you need.

Thanks!

No one seems to be able to locate these people.  They use a variety of names and phone numbers.   Same tactics though, constantly  trying to scare people into giving them money.  Also there's been reports of these people actually impersonating police officers and telling them the police are going to arrest debtors over some old debt or another.  I'm pretty sure they are located in the continental US, but nobody can locate where.

How about giving us the address of this place called  "Litigation Services".

You got something by mail.  Right?   Must be an address on the mail you received--what is it?

First off - BACK AWAY FROM THE CAPS LOCK KEY!!!  Secondly - if you actually read these comments, you'd see that not a one has said they owe anyone.  Oh, and if the debt is "LEGIT" - let the callers prove it.  In writing.  Per the FDCPA!  They won't, because they're scammers.  And that's also per the FDCPA!

Mind telling us what sort of paper you were exactly "served".  Normally a case starts out by filing a complaint.  Then the defendant is served with process.

There are no court dates on a summons and complaint for you to show up.  You normally simply have a period of time, usually 30 days to answer the complaint or face a default judgement.

For $500 this would be in small claims court where attorneys are not allowed.  (At least in California)  I think it's true in most states.

You're not making any sense.   You sound shilly to me.

My wife's ex in-laws received a call from these people yesterday looking for me and they gave them my wife's cell phone number. Then, they called her looking for me. About a month ago, we received a call from another number and those people were claiming to be with Morgan Lewis Law Firm out of Houston, Texas regarding the same so called outstanding debt. They wanted triple the amount they claimed I borrowed or they were coming to get me and throw me in jail for up to 5 years. My wife contacted Morgan Lewis and found out this was a scam. Now they are calling using Statewide Mediation or Stateway Mediation and claiming I owe them the same amount for the same people. When my wife told them she knew they were frauds, they got really nasty with her and hung up on her. They called back again today. She again called them back, told them she knew they were a bunch of frauds, that they had been turned over to the BBB and the FTC and they had better stop calling and once again, the guy was nasty and hung up on her.. Wish I could find out who these people are and where they are calling from. Dishonest people make me sick!!!!

Received the same calls this Saturday to my parents home and then to my cell starting this morning. When they spoke with my dad they were just fishing for information on me. Saying that they will start garnishing my wages & contact my employer. He's a cop and since I haven't worked since having my kids he knew it had to a scam. He was given the 877-239-5603 # to call and a case # to reference. So he calls that # acting like a concerned parent. They say I owe $805 from a payday loan.( I have only ever had 1 loan that was paid back & have never received any notices of a delinquent account) They ask him if he's aware that I am taking out multiple loans from several places and not paying them back. And not only will they garnish my check but I could have a criminal warrant as well. But if he can pay for me they would take $700 to squash the debt and not serve me with papers. He did get an address: 120 Broadway 33rd Floor New York, New York 10271
We filed a harassment claim with the local sheriff & FTC.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim?s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims? relatives, friends, and employers.

Person called our place of business and left a very "threatening" voicemail for a person who does not work here.  Sounds like a scam and there was a lot of noise (calling center?) in the background.  I called back and they picked up the phone, "Legal Department." ... yeah right.  See voicemail below:

"This message is for the Manager of EMPLOYEE NAME. This is NAME contacting regarding an order that was submitted to my office this morning. I need to verify your protocol for service or process. Your employee, EMPLOYEE NAME, has charges and a claim against her.  At this point she has one opportunity to contact the mediation firm to discuss the matter immediately. They can be reached at 877-239-5603, Claim #: NUMBER. EMPLOYEE NAME, you have officially been notified."

These people have been harrassing me for 2 weeks. Using 2 different numbers but it's the same people calling.  They keep changing the amount I owe and are trying to tell me I'm going to jail if I don't pay this. One guy even stated he would knock off some money if I pay a different amout. My husband tried to get their address and information and they refused to give it to him. They would not send any information or paperwork either. It's scarey. I have changed my accounts and blocked all the numbers. not sure what else to do.
