called a few min ago and said something semi incoherent then hung up

Received call at 4:17 PM PST.   Wanted to know if I needed some work around the house. Started out with painting and went down some kind of list.  Said no to all of 'em.  

Never make appointments with anyone on a cold call basis if it involves coming out to your house.  You don't know who you are dealing with.  You don't want them anywhere near your house. Much less inside!

I have had the same experiences as all of you. I filed a report with the FCC and hopefully they can get rid of these people they are very annoying they called me seven times a day all hours of the day and night

Same experience as other posts above; probably a referral website for contractors/telemarketers who do not leave a message on my answering machine if I am monitoring the call, and callback on the number does not work. Since I am on a do not call registry, this is a probable source from where they may have got my number: Occasionally, I go to DIY stores such as Lowe's, Home Depot etc. in Southern California. When purchasing an item, the cashiers or "self -serve" machines ask for my phone number "in case I need to return the item".  I did give my number once, but now realize that there is always a decline option, and I can always use my receipt for returns. These DIY stores or commisssion employees very likely give customers' phone numbers and in some cases addresses to remodelling, painting or other contractors' lists; so now I always decline to give my phone number or address. Since some contactors/telemarketers can be persistent, abusive, or threatening, in such cases I advise that you report the number to the FCC on their complaints website as a harassing number (fcc.gov/complaints).

6/15 12:53 PDT Just tried again.  Apparently Sunday and Father's Day holiday mean nothing, but call was blocked and only rang once here.  It's a shame nothing seems to be off-limits anymore.

Pests called and Nomorobo got em.

6/12 11:39 PDT  missed call, but wouldn't have answered since don't recognize number and no ID shown.  Based on other reports, wouldn't have wanted to talk to this caller anyway.

I'd unplugged my phone for months, only used my cell phone and only had an old style phone for emergencies. Now everyday all I get are calls like this. I just replaced my phone to a cordless with caller id and these are the only calls I get. I don't answer the phone unless I know who it is, so I appreciate the info.

They just told me they were Inside and Out Painting Company.  When I told the guy We were on the do not call list, He recited my address, and said he knew who we were and where we live.  Then told me the Do Not Call list is a joke.

Wife got call and set up appt. I tired to turn it off but no answer to the same 877 number. Will see if they show up to appt.

Another call from this number.  No ID, no message.  Just more aggravation.

They called me today and i didn't answer. Left me a message and asked for me by name and they thought I was a male. Stupid people.

I received a call from this number.  No one answered.  I tried to call back at least 25 times, no answer.  Extremely annoying.

They try to hide by using a spoofed caller ID low-budget VoIP service.

Both the telemarketer and the VoIP provider are in criminal violation of several federal laws.
He have the ability to track them; and I turn the information to federal law enforcement.

My blocker says they called during the Indy 500.  Nomorobo (my first line of defense) blocked em before the blocker tested them against my white list.  Never heard a thing, and never will :).   White list, with non-invited numbers (that made it past Nomorobo) going to a secondary answering machine has brought silence to our house.

I won't reveal my methods because They are reading this too. But the way to make it stop is not to ignore them -- they just keep calling. The way to make it stop is to cost them lots of money.

The Telephone Consumer Protection Act and the various Federal regulations that grew out of that, are specifically written to give us the "right to private action," specifically in small claims court, to cost them lots of money. The government won't do it for us but we're allowed to do it ourselves. And pocket the dough.

Go to Amazon and look for a book "How to Sue a Telemarketer" by Steve Ostrow. It works.

Got a call from someone claiming to be June. Stated company was "Builder's Specialists." Can find no such listing on the web or Angie's list. Called the number back, no answer.

OK folks, I don't want to sound rude, but I am flabbergasted by the number of people on this thread who have actually made appointments with these scummy telemarketers. Really? You actually thought it was a good idea to give some random stranger who interrupted your day with a bogus "sales" call your address?  You actually believed that a legitimate business would market itself by intentionally breaking the do not call list law? You actually thought that a professional contractor with a license, good references and ethics would have to drum up business via telemarketing?  Think for a minute...DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?  Here are a few simple rules of life that any reasonably intelligent being should know.  1. Don't kick puppies. 2. Never lock your baby in a hot car. 3. Don't eat the yellow snow. 4. NEVER do business with ANYONE who is a telemarketer or door-to-door sales person.

The only reason that the rest of us are harrangued to death by these endless freaking junk phone calls is because  crooks make money from you fools who do business with them. Want the calls to stop? THEN STOP ANSWERING THEIR CALLS.  Your gullibility is making my life worse. Stop it already..

Got a call with a man saying that we asked him to call us for painting.
We said no thank you, we're not interested, good bye.
He called back why aren't you interested?
We don't have the money right now. Please don't call again.
He called back for the third time, Why did you hang up on me?
We don't have the money or the time. Please do not call again. I'm hanging up, good bye.
Then he mumbled something and said you B***h

I'm tired of having to deal with rude people on the phone when I'm on a do not call list.
Someone needs to find and bust these people.

Received a call from what I thought was a contractor.  Claimed they did work in my area and could offer references along with a contractor license number.  Went by the name of Builders Specialist and they were a small family owned business.  I actually made an appointment for them to come out and for some reason after I hung up got a bad feeling.  When I called this number, I like everyone else, got no answer.  Should have known better since I did not call them, but they called me.  

Caller said his name was Charlie. Said he was calling for his family contracting business. Name of business was Family Builders. Made appointment to come out. Never showed up.

Made the appointment. Had the local PD waiting in my driveway when they arrived. The PD cited them for not having a business license to work in this city and also a safety violation on their truck. I have the name of the contractor and may file a lawsuit. These people use call centers to do their cold calling.
