I got voicemail from them. Some guy states my name and case number and he continues by stating he exspects a call back within 30 mins. Lol, from what i see here about acrm should i never answer... Just ignore their calls? I dont owe debt to anyone except student loans but that wouldnt be from acrm clearly....ppl like this... Its why earth is going to s***! Any tips 4 me ?

Here is how to stop this crooked company.  If it is not you they are looking for report them to the CRTC....not the BBB (goes nowhere). They are afraid of two things only the CRTC and the people they collect for. If it is you tell them you want proof of debt with dates 90% of the time they can't get it and if they can the statue of limitations had run out. Their biggest scam is Bell debts which are owned by Aktiv kapital out if London Ontario complain to them you calls will stop. All you have to remember is CRTC.

These morons called looking for some guy who used to live in this house.  That's the only connection I have to the guy -- he lived here more than five years ago and now I live here.  I got so offensive with them I think I hurt their feelings.  Then I told them to f*** off for good measure and hung up.  

Again I received a call from this Collections Agency. Today it was for a married couple, as far as I could determine. I am a Canadian Citizen and have been all my life. Why am I getting calls from the U.S. for people I don't even know? How can I get them to stop bothering me?

I kept getting calls from ACRM for 2 or 3 months, and kept ignoring the calls. as they were called for a friend I barely talk to any more. All the calls were automated with the exception of one, when there was an actually person that left me a voice mail.

They called me again today asking if I knew the person they were looking for, and I told them I didn't know the person to get them off my back, then they asked for I knew the person they listed as a reference (it was my name that was listed). The only thing the lady would tell me they the said friend put me as a reference; when asked if I had a number to call this person, I told them I didn't have a phone number AFTER I said I didn't know the person.

The lady on the other end of the phone was starting to get rude with me, because I wasn't giving out any information. If you want me to be a little nicer on the phone (as give out information if necessary) then tell me who you are and where you're calling from the beginning of the phone call.

I definitely agree. It's an invasion of privacy without the person's permission. The government (provincial & federal) can change the rules that are in place for these type's of companies. Companies know the majority of the population cannot afford a lawyer so they break the rules until they are taken to court & literally made to stop. We need to send letter's to our local MP, MLA & Christy Clark & Stephen Harper. We need to lobby our governments to change the rules.....This is the only option we have unfortunately.....

Got a call from 18772746626 few minutes ago...answered but no one on the other end just dead air.

Just called me today...  I never spoke.  It went to my voice mail..   They got my last name right, but the first name wasn't even close.  I don't know the person they were asking for.

I have no personal debt and I check my credit rating regularly to make sure there are no fraudulent loans made in my name.  This call definitely wasn't for me.

I guess if they have an outstanding collection claim for a "Fred Smith", they must call every "F. Smith" in Canada until they get lucky.  What a way to run a business.

They earned a well deserved spot in my call-reject list.

I just got a call myself from this company...not for me but for someone I know. They gave my name as a reference....the lady on the phone gave me an account # as well for the client....now how stupid is that...Obviously she was trying to scare me into giving our information....hey guys, I was born at night....but not last night....keep trying and you will be reported ....

Any reputable collection agency does not use these tactics. They have legal address,website, contact info and are governed by USA or Canada laws.  These guys use relay numbers and they are based in Asia.

By my own experience and what people say here it seems these scammers call people and ask for different names. Either they are running some kind of scam(eg. bother you until you just get tired  and pay the money) or there's something wrong.

When they called, they did not say who they are.If they are a collection agency, they MUST tell you who they are and reasons for their call. Since they aren't doing it, it is some kind of scammy tactics.

My husband recieved a call today for another person. When he said theat he had no idea eho the person was, they asked his name....when he said it they said he was a eefernece and a luar because he did know them. When he again denied,they said *you can go ahead and be a lair,becuase inknow you kjow them*. Then hung up. Whe. He rried to call back for a manager,the same employee yelled at him to stip calling , called him a air again and hung up.  THIS IS HARASSMENT.

I have no debt whatsoever. I'm constantly harassed by this number on a daily basis. They are calling my cell phone & when I ignore it, they continue to call back. 6 times in one minute!!! This is harassment!

What a bunch of worthless con artists! Calling my work and home leaving messages non stop! I dont owe these criminals anything! But they keep calling.... No legitimate collector would blatently break the law like that unless they are scammers running the ole payday loan scam! Nothing but a bunch of a**h***s with no real job skills or intellegence other than to steal money by dialing a phone to run scams!  

They robo call constantly as my deadbeat son listed me on some paper and will not listen to reason. Get a call blocker and short circuit the douches

I recieved a call from them today saying that i owe $800 to bell canada.   which i do not since that was paid off years ago to another collection agency which i confirmed bell used before submitting anything.  

Another people dont realize is that if the orginial company cant collect from you any money owed in a certein amount of time thru the collection agency they use they might  auction off the accounts i dont know if this is true or not it is what i was told long ago by someone i know very well

Hmmm excuse and how does it make it ok for them to tell me I'm a bad example to my children?   5 years ago I had to quit my job (a good job) to take care of my son who was diagnosed with cancer. I am a single mother also, so for them to tell me I am a bad mother and I will never be successful in my life and hear them laughing is not right. I was honest and they just laughed at me. Something like that can push someone over the edge seriously

Okay.  I've tried "ACRM," "Action Collections & Recovery Management," and "Action..." to try to confirm a debt collector's license for the names the caller is using.  I keep coming up with "no records match your search."  Anyone else want to try?

The Federal Government and the Provinces have Limitation Acts which provide a limit on the time an unsecured debt survives. If an unsecured debt is not collected or payments are not made on the unsecured debt then after a certain time no legal action can be taken to collect the debt."

(From what I see, between 2 and 6 yrs seems to be the length of the SOL for legal action to be taken.)

As for the rest of your comment, WHY would someone RE-start the Statute of Limitations by making arrangements to pay???
I'm sure they WOULD be glad to take your money.  However (and you agree) that after the SOL, there is NO legal remedy for the creditor/collection agency to use...UNLESS the person claims the debt and STARTS THE TIME ON THE STATUTE OF LIMITATION ONCE AGAIN.

I will agree that a collection agency may call the person.  However, if they are told (preferably in writing) to CEASE AND DESIST calling, then the agency/creditor is to honor that.

[And, no, I'm not encouraging debtors not to pay.  I'm stating their options: (1) tell the creditor/agency to cease & desist if the SOL has past  OR (2) claim the debt and make arrangements.  EITHER is within their LEGAL RIGHTS.]
