I didn't get a phone call but a letter from Lions Gate Financial Services, Inc. in Woodbury, CT (877-750-4928) with a check from Wachovia Bank in the amount of $2,950 saying to cash this and send them two installments of $1,000 and $950 to cover non-resident tax payment for $50,000 guranteed winnings from WalMart, Sears, Home Depot, Safeway and ASDA for the second quarter 2013. Yeah right, I though immediately this can't be real. I Googled their address, 47 Sherman Hill Road and it's up for sale by Coldwell Banker!. Looks legit enough to fool someone but I am tearing it up and trashing it. No way am I calling or cashing the check or taking any action.

My grandfather received a very simlilar letter today. Inside was a check from Farmers Insurance totaling $2950. The instructions on the letter said he had to send in two different money orders to the same people and place in Ireland. The strange part was that the two seperate amounts didnt total the check in the envelope. One payment was supposed to be for $1000 and another for $950 to cover some "taxes" on a grand prize of $50000. The really crazy part was I called Citibank of Delaware and they verified that the account number on the check was Farmers Insurance. So really my grandfather could have gone into a Citibank Branch and cashed that check with no way of tracking it. I even called farmers and they didnt have a record of that check number or anything. I ended up scan copies of the check and letter and sending it too Farmers so they can try and find out whats going on. This world is crazy.

I  received the same letter with just minor differences from hers, Im researching ALL the contact information, bank names and verifying addresses, finding MANY discrepancies!  I KNOW this is a scam.  I will be turning in ALL my findings to my fraud department at my local bank.

A patient of mine showed me a letter she received that included a check for over $2,000.00, drawn on Citibank Delaware, and supposedly from Farmers Insurance in Pocatello, ID. The letterhead was Lions Gate Financial Services of Woodbury Connecticut. The letter said that she won $85,000.00, and this was the first installment; another check would come by FedEx in 3 days. She was instructed to call that same number (877-278-9167), and ask for Donald Green or Mary Fletcher for instructions on depositing the check and wiring money to cover the taxes. The money was to be wired to Mars Kassymov or Raimond Cirulis of Dublin, Ireland. Oh, and the reason she received this prize was for being a Walmart shopper. And yes, the poor thing found none of this to be suspicious.

Looks like same scam for 2010 Acura MDX in Chicago area.  I'm so glad I checked this out.

Wow, my husband and I just went through the same thing with these same fake people today, for the same car and price.  The 2008 Lexus IS 250 $5000. We called the PayPal # listed on the email and got the same message twice. The PayPal guy called back and it shoed (Andy.Roberts62) on the caller id. I've dealt with PayPal before and never have I received a call back nor had to call to process a transaction. I knew something was wrong. I was trying to inquire about the Title and then he went silent and then hung up. Amber Zimmer never answered her phone but she was quick to answer her phone when I sent her our address info. What a shame!!! I really wanted this car but my hubby told me it was too good to be true. We contacted PayPal directly and they told me to send the fake emails to their fraud department @ spoos@paypal.com.

The name that they use for me was Amber Zimmer. She was supposely selling a 2008 Lexus for $5,000 in Cars.com. When my husband and I told her that we were flying out to "Nebraska" to pay and pick up the car, she totally disregarded us and just sent us an email with the "PayPal" transaction. We called the 877 number listed on the email and an India guy picked up. While was my husband was on the phone with them, I called from my number and received "the person you are trying to reach is unavailable, please leave a message after the tone." My husband told the person that and they hung up the phone...
