877-282-1378

I received a call today saying it was "BC/BS Of Illinois" . It asked me to call 877-282-1378 an punch in the 8 digit code. I didn't call back.Maybe if more people report these calls as fraud to BCBS maybe they'll stop.

Received this call today. I called back and it was an automated request from BC/BS asking how you would like to receive communication from them. Email vs phone vs mail. You speak your reply and they update your preferences.

Called BCBS and they said it was a legit system that they were using to update their system with name, emails, etc.

Obviously you get a great deal of satisfaction belittling people online. I bet you're the type that finds joy (orgasmic) thinking you are far superior grammatically to everyone. No one likes a smarta$$. In fact, we(the unwashed masses of grammar) find your smugness a trite repulsive. Get a life and just observe for a while. You might just learn something.

Got similar voice mail and left this phone number, claiming to be BCBS and left a reference number if I call from another phone line. This was essentially a "robo-call" and thought it odd that BCBS would not have a live person call. Never called back. Seems suspicious.

Received same message last week, and again today, 4/12/13. (Not calling back.)
SHAME ON YOU, BCBS, FOR NOT RESOLVING/ADDRESSING THIS!!!!

wish I knew how to block this number. Ive been called by this number once a week for a month. I called back and recording said it was BCBS

If your attention span would have allowed you to read past the third line, I think even you would have figured out they were mocking the original poster......

Before you start telling someone to mind their "grammer" and "punctation", you might follow your own advice so YOU don't look like the idiot.
Jen 2013-03-26 21:08:24 Unknown
Got 2 calls from this number. I called BCBS and they told me it was a program to inform members of future information. I have the option to receive my billing info via text messages or email if I sign up. They confirmed the call was legit. Not sure if they're hiding something because the guy I spoke to sounded unsure?
JR001 2013-03-26 16:39:34 Unknown
I received this phone call message, and so I saved the info and called BCBS and they said that it was real and legitimate. So I called the number back and all they want to know is "receiving information preferences". And also the BCBS representative told me that it is sent to all members regardless if you've already set preferences or not.

You english bad bc you not learned skool. Haha. Seriously though, it is awful. You never finished high school did you? "Bc" does not mean "because", especially in a thread about blue cross. If they were to do it through email, no one would respond. It was pretty clearly explained in that previous post. Do what most people do. Dont answer the phone when its an 877 number. YOU'RE not too bright. Learn to spell, use grammer, throw out the excessive punctation, and if you are going to abbreviate something, try not to look like an idiot while doing so.

I too just called the number on the back of my card, and I also was advised not to respond to the call! That is NOT THE WAY BCBS DOES BUSINESS!!! I'm never calling back they are B.S. SCAMMERS, stay away from them.

I just called the number listed on the back of my card, as you stated we should do, and they DID NOT "tell me the same thing". BCBS representative was unsure of what you were speaking about and put me on hold so he could ask his supervisor, who asked their supervisor, who asked their supervisor and so on. After an 18 minute phone conversation, I was advised NOT to respond to the message what so ever. They informed me BCBS does not make private calls for information verification purposes. Their protocol states "it is solely the insurance carrier, or carrier?s employer, responsibility to notify BCBS of any personal changes, i.e. address change, phone number changes, coverage changes, etc. So, if you truly worked for BCBS(IL), you would have known your post was not protocol... EVERYONE DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER BACK!
Dear BCBS 2013-03-20 23:37:27 Unknown
Dear BC/BS,
If you want to know how I want to be contacted, contact me the same way you send the bill. Dadadum!
" hello this is BC/BS of Illinois. If this is xxx xxxx, please say yes. If you are xxx, say yes. Please call us at 877.282.1378 and enter this 8 digit security code so we know it is you."
Whatever!

Recv'd a call from this # today. Same as many of you - 'This is BCBS', give a call back, & left a "personal security code" if I don't call back from the same # they called. Right away, I thought it was odd. Why would BCBS be calling; they're already getting my premiums. Checked this site & glad I did. I Google'd the # and found a couple of things from Silverlink, but nothing from BCBS. It said it was a method to collect preference of how BCBS should contact me. Funny thing is, I already receive e-mails from BCBS. 1. If it's Silverlink, why do they say they're BCBS? 2. If it's on behalf of BCBS, why don't they send something -- especially when it's concerning personal health information??!! Shame on you, BCBS -- IF this is legit. P.S. Need I say, I'm not calling back.

Unknown caller keeps calling from 877-282-1378
consumer 2013-03-20 16:18:59 Unknown
This is a partner number with Blue Cross Blue Shield of multiple states that is trying to gather member information about an OPT IN for SMS or Email and best number to contact along with perferred contact method.
KBub 2013-03-19 19:37:39 Unknown
Did not pick up the phone. After reading these posts, I've decided to ignore the caller. Thanks to everyone for posting.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Illinios Sucks!
Hello 2013-03-18 21:37:19 Unknown
Also, like the kicker when u call Blue Cross Blue Shield u get to be put on hold to find out what they needed to update. Great system! BS!!!!!! Waste of my time! How annoying!!!!
hello 2013-03-18 21:36:06 Unknown
Why worried bc its annoying! Also, bc most scams are done this way. They should not be calling your home with your name from some unknown number. They should do it through email!!!
Rae 2013-03-15 21:05:56 Unknown
I have some doubt about this post. Especially after reading some of the others. Besides ALL of the insurance is handled through my place of business, I am not the person you would confirm anything with, they are!! Still sounds very fishy. Call the employers and get information confirmation from them as they handle the insurance or send letter first, so the call is expected. STill sounds off. I'm not calling it back.
Madge 2013-03-15 19:31:11 Unknown
This is either fraud or really poor business practices. I got a voice mail today saying it was Blue Cross Blue Shield and asking me to call back at 877-282-1378 and enter an 8-digit code. I called the BCBS of IL customer service number on the back of my card to check if the 877 number was legit, and the rep I spoke to couldn't find it in her directory. She also confirmed the phone number they have on record for me, and it was not the number on which I received the voice mail message. The rep thought the message could have been from their subrogation department, so she called that department and they had nothing for me. (FYI, she said the subrogation department always sends letters.) The rep I spoke to was very thorough but found no connection to the 877-282-1378 number.
I have BCBS too 2013-03-15 14:59:22 Unknown
I wouldn't worry too much about it, usually companies hire outside marketing/customer service people to do mass calling / mass updating... that would explain the same number being used.
BlueberryJuniper 2013-03-15 14:59:08 Unknown
I work for BCBSIL/TX/OK/NM (parent company HCSC). We are doing a systemwide update of contact information and are using SilverLink as the vendor to gather information. It's a simple verification process. No biggie. :-) We do it every year or every other year or so. No reason to panic - although I do understand why people are so paranoid.
This one is legit. If you call your customer service number on the back of your card and ask about it, we'll tell ya the same thing. :-)

Just received the same call. They knew my name, which is odd. i dont think it is bcbs because they have always contacted me with a live person, not through an automated system. Wonder how to report them?
Jen 2013-03-14 19:14:13 Unknown
got a call today on my cell from this number. the auto attendant message claimed it was BCBS & to call a number back. the number matched the number on my caller ID so i called back thinking it might be legit. my cell carrier blocked my call to that number so i got online to do a quick search & found you all. Since the last report is from Apr. 2012 they must have been waiting for time to pass for people to forget.
