Yes, the debt may not be yours. These predatory debt collectors use similar tactics when contacting relatives, friends, and others, that are associated or affiliated with some alleged debtor. That association or affiliation can be anything that these cowards find when preying on consumers. Skip trace use like http://www.lexisnexis.com/backgroundchecks/business/skip-tracing.aspx and others http://www.collectionindustry.org/component/c ... tions-2011.html If they're calling you it's not by accident. They may have some BS lying excuse but it's not by accident. Telling them to stop means nothing. Make complaints through state and federal consumer protection agencies. That include their BBB

If they call me initially and I answer,  they're pretty sure I'm alive.  If they got my phone number they can get my address fairly easily.

What are we supposed to do, just put up with their nonsense?  Their endless calls.  Threats.

You name it.

Really dumb advice.  First by responding you are confirming you personally got the telephone call and are then giving him your address - remember these guys probably bought stall claims at 1 cent on the dollar and have no way of knowing that you are still alive, whether the claim has been paid (and they certainly don't care whether its barred by the statute of limitations).  Second you are not required to do or say anything in response to bare claims and if you are not careful you could conceivably be maneuvered into waiving the statute of limitations.  Nothing to gain from engaging with these people

We get numerous calls from this number, never a message and no one is ever there when we answer, even tried calling it back and a recording came on it was not a good number.  We have had our cell number for 9 years, never got the calls before now, no debt issues at all, all debts are always paid in full if this is in fact some sort of "debt collector" as so e of the posts indicate.

VERY frustrsting as the calls come at all times of the day.

Number has been calling for over two weeks. As late as 8:25 pm CST. Sometimes three times a day. Debt agency looking for someone else. Asked them what number they were calling and the idiot on the other line stated he didn't know as it was an auto dialer. Apparently reporting them to the local police for harrasing phone calls can work.

They "can't" send you the paperwork? Why?

More than likely, the debt this bottom feeder bought came with NO iota of proof that you legitimately owe this debt...and I would not HESITATE to send them a letter VIA certified mail with return receipt requested DEMANDING validation. This is your right under the FDCPA and they have five days to do it. Keep copies of everything you send:

VIA CERTIFIED MAIL

Dear {insert name of collector or company},

I am writing in response to your (letter or phone call) dated {insert date}, (copy enclosed) because I do not believe I owe what you say I owe.

This is the first I've heard from you, or any other company on this matter therefore, in accordance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, Section 809(b): Validating Debts:

(b) If the consumer notifies the debt collector in writing within the thirty-day period described in subsection (a) that the debt, or any portion thereof, is disputed, or that the consumer requests the name and address of the original creditor, the debt collector shall cease collection of the debt, or any disputed portion thereof, until the debt collector obtains verification of the debt or any copy of a judgment, or the name and address of the original creditor, and a copy of such verification or judgment, or name and address of the original creditor, is mailed to the consumer by the debt collector.

I respectfully request that you provide me with the following information:

(1) the amount of the debt;
(2) the name of the creditor to whom the debt is owed;
(3) Provide a verification or copy of any judgment (if applicable);
(4) Proof that you are licensed to collect debts in (insert name of your state).

Be advised that I am fully aware of my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the Fair Credit Reporting Act. For instance, I know that:

Because I have disputed this debt in writing within 30 days of receipt of your dunning notice, you must obtain verification of the debt or a copy of the judgment against me and mail these items to me at your expense;
you cannot add interest or fees except those allowed by the original contract or state law.

You do not have to respond to this dispute but if you do, any attempt to collect this debt without validating it, violates the FDCPA.

Also be advised that I am keeping very accurate records of all correspondence from you and your company including recording all phone calls and I will not hesitate to report violations of the law to my State Attorney General, the Federal Trade Commission and the Better Business Bureau.

I have disputed this debt; therefore, until validated you know your information concerning this debt is inaccurate. Thus, if you have already reported this debt to any credit-reporting agency (CRA) or Credit Bureau (CB) then, you must immediately inform them of my dispute with this debt. Reporting information that you know to be inaccurate or failing to report information correctly violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act § 1681s-2. Should you pursue a judgment without validating this debt, I will inform the judge and request the case be dismissed based on your failure to comply with the FDCPA.

Finally, if you do not own this debt, I demand that you immediately send a copy of this dispute letter to the original creditor so they are also aware of my dispute with this debt.

Debt Collector
called me, had information that was correct in my past however the debt was settled. Said I owed 11000 dollars, asked them to email or mail me paperwork to show me, she said she couldn't? Then i asked for there address and she asked me why. Laughing in my head i honestly thought this was a prank call. Totally a scam, they somehow have information about me however, by the unprofessional way of speaking and an obvious no understanding of how a collection agency works...SCAM!

I received calls several days in a row for the previous owner of my cell phone. I left a message on their voicemail twice asking to be removed from their list with no response. I found their website online and called 1-866-212-7408 and finally got a live person.
