THEY NAMED A PERSON WHO IS NOT ME AND SAID I WON A GIFT CERTIFICATE TO WAL-MART; I SENT THEM A "STOP" MESSAGE AND THEY TEXT ME BACK THREE TIMES TELLING ME MY TEXT WAS NOT CORRECT; THIS HAS COST ME $1.00 SO FAR TODAY AS I DO NOT HAVE TEXT MES. IN MY PLAN....

I started receiving text messages on my cell phone in April of this year. I called my carrier ATT and they credited me back for the text messages but could not block the number. I also filed a complaint with the FCC. Messages I was receiving: PATRICIA (my name is not Patricia) you have been selected to receive a $100 WalMart Gift Voucher! Call 877-301-9923! txt STOP 2unsub. The other two said the same thing but from Target. I knew it was a scam and I did not text back nor called the number. Since filing the complaint in April the text messages have stopped.

Now I am receiving calls on my cell phone from 877-754-3383 & 888-400-3471, both in the same day, June 10, 2010, an hour apart. I let them go into voice mail and receive messages saying that my loan has been approved and call back so they can transfer the money to my bank account. Once again, calling me Patricia!

I have been on the national do not call registry for years now and very rarely use my cell phone and only a handful of personal contacts have my cell phone, nor do I give out my cell phone number to anyone else.

I strongly recommend anyone receiving these texts and calls to file complaints with the Federal Trade Commission.

Report these to the Federal Trade Commission, www.ftc.gov.  Give as much information as you can.  Only with repeated reports can they justify the resources to chase down and nail these scumbags.

So I called to See what the heck this was all about.  I got a lady who was from what seemed to be the heart of India.  
She never asked me for the GIft Code and she stated that it was Actually a $200 rebate voucher to any retailer and for being one of the Luck first callers I would get 2-$25 Target Gift cards and 1-$25 Walmart Gift card.  I asked where they got my information from she stated that it was from using my Credit/Debit Card at Walmart or Target.
I said Oh ok! I played along just to get more information and she stated that the entire package would be mailed to my home with the above Gift cards/Vouchers all I needed to do was pay a one time only Fee of $7 for shipping and handling.
I said well if you got my information from me using my Card at Walmart or Target why do I have to give you my card information again?
And she said for security purposes she would transfer me to the Verification dept who would take my card info and issue me my 12 digit confirmation tracking number.
She said so give my you contact info and I will begin the process of you being on your way to getting your rebate.
URGH--I said what is the name of your company. She tells me that it is Discount plus and they are based out of Phoenix 85001.  I said ok, what is your mailing address?  She replies that she is not authorized to give that information to me.  I said well your Mailing address then, I still am not authorized, Hmmm I said ok, they what are your cross streets then.  Ma'am I am not authorized to provide you with that information but what I can give you is my name and employee number, Shania Smith (ummm ok) and 10626. She said if you give me your email I will send you our contact information.  I said Ok...
I gave her a gmail address and have yet to receive any info... lol

I know the conversation should have ended along time ago but I love catching people in scams, it is bittersweet....

I received this text message as well. Here is my advise.

If you have Alltel as a wireless company (not sure if it works with others) text 8888 and include the letter B (for block) and the short number (or any phone number you wish to block from texting you) and it will be blocked from texting you. You will get a reply showing the number has been added to your blocked list. I would also advise putting your number on the DNC Registry if it is already not listed.

WELL ARE THESE PEOPLE SMART OR WHAT!!!! even though you get a "opt-out confirmation' obviously it doesn't mean much... hopefully it really will stop though otherwise, I guess the next step would be to contact the cell company , there isn't much on those websites listed so thats out... maybe Walmart - threaten them with some bad publicity etc....   IDK

The do***e bags send me a text message and I tried to reply to tell them to kiss off but to no avail.  I need to add them to the do not call list I am already on.  When I find out the company that is selling my number I am going to take legal action against them.  I have a feeling it is a bank or credit card company selling the information to get more money since our bailout tax dollars was not enough for them since they had to pay it back even though they are still raping people for foreclosure money and increased interest rates on loan and credit cards. Enough is enough.

She apparently called the number on the text message......I got this text also and so did my daughter a day ago. I think it is a scam also.

Do NOT reply to these text messages. It's their way of confirming that they actually sent one to a valid phone number. Ignore them. If it continues, contact both Wal-mart and your local law enforcement.

I just got a txt saying I won a free walmart gift card - but then they couldn't find me and started asking for my info.  I hung up right after they asked my for my name.
