The FDCPA makes it illegal for any debt collector to ask you to leave a note on a neighboors door.   They may verify telephone and address information but are require to give their name and company name before doing so.   If you are asked to leave a note on a neighbors door, get the company name because you are entitled to sue for violation of the FDCPA law.   Tell your neighbor as well they are entitled to sue for this + damages.

These people called my son's retired inlaws to leave a threatening message for me. How far can these people go? How do you put a stop to these jerks?

Keep getting calls from 888-238-0240 and they don't give up no matter what I say. One day they are looking for Clancy, then the next time they want to ship me drugs from a pharmacy, next they are looking for some women. Don't know what the scam is unless its to tie into my phone number to make long distance call from. Can't get AT&T to do anything about it, can't block the number from a cell phone because its 888 number.
You would think AT&T would allow you to block calls.

This company called my house wanted me to leave an important message on my neighbors door.  I thought about it first but then thought twice.  I would have looked like a fool going over their.  This place is a debt collection agency.  My neighbor is dying of cancer and they have the balls to do something like that.  This is probably the most unethical company I've ever heard of.

called and stated they needed to reach my neighbor and wasn't sure why she didn't answer, but stated the call was very important and gave the neighbor's first name and address. I immediately googled the # so I'm sure it's a collection agency and no number on the caller id.

Then called me, Caller ID shows blank and then i asked them why your giving me a blank caller id, and sked for the number, she does not respond. they misspell my name.
i do not think they are collection agency but they just like that.
finally she give me a fax number 419-794-9001 to dispute it.
may be when you fax it they might be looking for more details like your signature or whatever.

I just got a message asking me to leave a note on my neighbor's door - I couldn't believe the details they told me about her!  Supposedly she's sick and cannot answer the phone, so they want me to leave the note for her "caretaker".
Yeah, I don't think so. :-P
(but no, leaving a note on the door is no more illegal than leaving a newspaper or mail or a package.. I just think it's unseemly for them to ask people to do this! my neighbor's business is THEIR business.)
I think I might call them back & tell them what I think...

not only called but made someone come to my house and leave a note on my front door. that is trespassing and it needs to stop.

Update:  This company has fax number 419-794-9001.  If you are receiving calls from them for other people, or at your job, can fax them to remove that number so they can't contact you there.

Calling for someone else, yet trying to threaten me with "you know what will happen to this guy if we have to verify his employment, don't you?".  Identified himself as "Mr Miller" but denied being a collection agent. Said he was calling about legal matters from Ohio.
