yeah, I don't live in the States, but I get called frequently by this number.  Scammers - every one of them.
Use your common sense and never give them any information.  Just hang up and call the legitimate number of your banking institution or go into your local bank branch to see if they want any information from you.  Seriously people, it's 2013 and we should all know better !!

I had a bad experience with this number. After the initial call where I declined to give information out, they called me using a private number on my phone. Brats.

Yet another case of total internet paranoia.   I called the main Chase number off their website after receiving this letter about a change of address. They went through the same process of asking for my debit information or my social security #.

Since I called the main Chase line I knew it was legit, so I gave them my information.  When they checked the account what happened was the post office changed the last 4 digits on my zip code in my area. Zip Code format: 12345-6789.

The 6789 had changed, so Chase had updated the address with the new zip code and sent out the letter.

I cannot believe that for YEARS you guys have continued to say it is a fake number.  Lesson here.  Do your own snooping and do not believe everything you read on these posts.  Some people probably wasted hours of their lives canceling cards and worrying about a legit letter from Chase because of some paranoid peoples's posts.

I called Chase today at 800-935-9935 (number right off their website) and they asked for debit card number and pin. I too received the change of address letter asking me to call 877-342-4273 and they said they were chase. I did not give them my pin, but asked the guy lots of questions about Chase checking accounts. He knew all the answers and did not seem to be looking the info up or anything - even knew the fees associated with each account and how to avoid the fees. I think 877-342-4273 really is Chase.

Survey
This number claimed to have a Discover reward card for me and that I would have to call this # back when I received this card to take a short 1 question survey about my employment with a certain company.

I'll wait and see if I get a card - I will be surprised. Sounds extremely suspicious to me.

This is a Chase number 1-877-342-4273 ... althought the procedures is kind of odd:
I got a letter to call the 1-877-342-4273 about a supposed address change. And I was concerned after calling that number as they wanted my full social security number and my account number, .... and I contacted the Chase Fraud Department and via the Secure Online Message Center the real Chase Internet Service Center and explained my concerns including the other similar Chase number issues, etc.. I just now received a response to my concerns and inquiry through the Chase Secure Online Message Center from the real Chase Internet Service Center and they've confirmed that 1-877-342-4273 is indeed a Chase number and that nothing was changed (address) or added (debit card, etc.) to my account, etc.
So, while my concerns are put at rest now, I wouldn't call a number from such a letter ever again, but only use the official Chase numbers from the official Statements or the indicated Chase customer services numbers online on my account.

I got the same letter.  I was concerned because my account had been closed for a few months already. I called the number on the paper (1-877-342-4273) and gave my info.  Went down to Chase with the same concerns about fraud.  The bank teller was able to print a generic cover letter (for the same purpose-change of address) that contained the number that was also in my letter.  So, apparently the number is a Chase number...

FRAUD NUMBER! DO NOT CALL OR GIVE ANY INFO TO THEM!!
Got a letter in the mail from "Chase" saying they were confirming my address change. I did not request an address change. I wrote to chase through my bank account email and this was their reply:
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience or confusion
this may have caused you. We understand how concerning
this can be on your part.

After reviewing your account our records do not indicate
any address changes. Additionally, we are not able to
verify the number 1-877-342-4273 from our phone book.

We proactively work to stop fraudulent messages; however,
criminals with malicious intent continually look for new
ways to circumvent security measures.

Received a letter from "supposidely" Chase asking me to call 877-342-4273 option 2 .  They stated that they were writing to let me know that they updated my address based on information they received from me directly .  If I did not request this change of address that I should call the above number.  Thank God, I googled the number to only find out that this is fraud, because I never asked for an address change.

I Got the same letter!!  I called the number on the letter & gave them my info, but I felt funny about it and was concerned, so I immediately called the customer service # on the back of my debit.  Chase said that this was NOT a chase #!  They canceled my card and are going to send me a new one.

The Fraudulent #  sounds like it would be chase.  They even ask you to wait and take a survey after speaking with the customer service operator.  I felt funny so I stayed to take the survey to see if I would really be transferred and it didn't transfer me to any automated survey.  WARNING!!  THIS IS 100% a FRAUD!!!!!

Beware of this number 877-342-4273 - I worked for a credit card company for 10 years and I STILL foolishly gave these people my SSN. It is amazing how legitimate the letter looks, as well as the automated system and representatives answering the phone. I did confirm with Chase's Fraud Department that it is a fraudulent number.

If you act as foolishly as I did, IMMEDIATELY take the following steps to minimize your risk...

- If you have a Chase account (mine were closed already), then call them to report the fraud
- Put a 90 day fraud alert on all 3 credit bureaus, Experian, Equifax and Transunion. You can do this by going to each of their websites
- File a report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) - Again you can do this by going to their website
- Call any other companies in which you may have checking/savings or credit cards with (Bank of America, Wells Fargo, etc.) - Ask them to put a password on your account to prevent someone from calling to access those accounts with your SSN. Remember that if a criminal has your SSN, they can pull your credit report and learn which accounts you currently have open.
- Inquire with your bank or credit card company about any Identify Theft Protection programs they may have. The programs are typically free or only $1 for the first 30 days and they will provide you with daily monitoring of your credit report immediately. It's worth it.
- You can try to file a police report, however if no crime has actually been committed against you yet, there's not much that they can do.

Good luck!

I got the same letter with the same phone number. What BS.  What is Chase doing about this.  This has gone on for years and it is STILL happening.  They can't shut this number down???  OR find out who is sending the letters.  I say we file a class action against chase for not taking this matter seriously.. how many people have to give out their personal information for chase to do something about this\!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are still at it! But I must say, the people at the fraudulent number do an excellent imitation of Chase, down to the hard-to-operate menus. When I asked the guy at the other end how I could tell if he was really a Chase employee, he coolly told me to go to the Chase website, call the main number, and to check it out. I did, and found out that it was a fraud.

I got a letter from supposedly from Chase stating that they updated my address from info that they received from me or the US Postal Service.  I made no such request.  If I had any questions, I was to call 1-877-342-4273.  I did call Chase, but not with that number.  The customer service rep did say that they do these mailing periodically.

I got a call from this number today (June 14, 2010) also. And I have recently signed up for a new debit card from CHASE.  I was left with a voicemail from this #, and all the voicemail contained was a short buzzing/beep sound for about a second.

DO NOT TRUST THIS NUMBER.

If you gave any significant info through this number, cancel your card(s).

I just got off the phone with Chase and this is not a number associated with Chase.  I got a letter from "Chase" wanting to confirm an address change I had made and requesting I call this number.  This number asks you to enter your debit card number and pin number.  The real Chase that I was able to get a hold of said they would never ask for a pin number and that this number was not associated with them.

I missed a phone call and when I checked the voice mail, it was from Chase requesting I update the address on my Debit Card. They left the phone number
1-877-342-4273 option 3, or come by Chase. My caller ID showed 1-800-555-0433 I had to listen to the message twice because they spoke quickly, it was a very short recorded message. I called Chase from the number on the back of my debit card, they said it was probably fraud. I looked up the number on the Internet and it lead me to this site.
Always be careful and call the number on your card rather than give information over the phone.

I have been called repeatedly by this number, and left with the same cut-off, difficult to understand message about needing to verify an address. It sounded very sketchy so I called the Chase number on the back of my debit card.

This number is not Chase, as verified with the bank's fraud department. The number is set up to seem just like Chase's phone service but it is a front and not secure. Always contact Chase via the number on your debit or credit card or their website.

This  UNKNOWN company left me a vm claiming that I needed to confirm my address.  I had mail that was supposedly being returned.  Like a rookie I called and entered my Chase debit# in the automated system.  The system wanted my pin, that is when my radar really went up.  Bare in mind I was always suspicious (trust your instincts fellow consumers.  I negated entered my pin spoke to a rep and verifed my address which they already had.  I called Chase and they couldn't verify the number-meaning it was BS. I immediately cancelled the card.  That will never happen again. Please be careful.
