This was for a credit monitoring service. I was enrolled in a program called "Credentials" which is no longer offered. I signed up 15+ years ago ago when the service was really inexpensive and agreed to an automatic renewal at the same price. I only pay about $3/month. I think that the company would prefer to have me lapse or cancel this account because they want to sell me a much more expensive credit monitoring service.
I had to wait too for several minutes for a call center agent. The "charge authorization form" is a bit suspect. It reads that by signing and returning, I can renew at my old rates but future charges will be at their "then-current fee". This reads like a sneaky and unbecoming way to get out of the pricing terms from our original agreement. It may also have been their legal team just being very cautious.
In renewing over the phone, I just gave the new billing info and wasn't asked about/didn't agree to anything else.

I received the same type letter with same phone number but the so-called co-called company is Credentials Grd members. I never signed up for any credentials so I googled and found your response.

For Triligent / Credentials credit protection service. Credentials has verified that the letter sent in the mail referencing our plan name & account number is valid. They no longer accept AmEx. Was surprised, too as I've been paying w/AmEx for my Credentials account for over 15 years.

It's a scam. They mail out 10's of thousands and a few thousand will send the form back in and will be paying $14.95 per month for a long time. Do the math. Even 2000 suckers will amount to 30 thou per month.

So I did sign up for Trilegient (a subsidiary of the Affinion Group), which is a credit protection service, through my Wells Fargo Visa card many years ago. About a year ago, I had them switch billing to my American Express. In the meantime, I have signed up for a much better credit protection service, which isn't so enigmatic about being contacted. I too thought this letter was a scam, but after researching it, at least for me, there was some merit to it. Nevertheless, I have had the exact same misgivings about this letter that everyone else has had. This letter feels "scamy" to me. In addition, when a company makes it difficult for me to give them money, I say "Adios."

It took me 25 minutes on hold to talk to someone. They had a very heavy accent - much like So African. She told me it was enrollment in Privacy Guard. I told her I never enrolled in Privacy Guard. She said OK, I'll cancel your membership, there will be no charges on your American Express. Interestingly, she had the number for my AMEX from a card that was cancelled a while back for fraudulent charges to my card. I shredded the letter. The End:-)

I received a Payment due notice about them no longer charge's from amex as well. Through persistence I was able to speak to a manager - Thomas New, from shopper's advantage (the return address on the envelope says AFFINION GROUP based in Nashville TN). Mr New says that they have contact info TO me from calling in to Deal or No Deal back in 2009. At my request he said he would have someone from corporate (though I still don't know which corp we're talking about) contact me and he will remove me from their files also at my request. Sounds scammy to me.

I received the same letter as many of the correspondents. I notified the Affinion Group in CT (not Tennessee, where the office is closed) and also completed a mail fraud complaint with the USPS.

I called 877-344-7987 and was put through to 'Paul' who told me that probably someone had gotten ahold of my AE number and ordered Privacy Guard and was charging it to my account and that I should get a new and different #. I told him I would contact AE myself and notify them. He said he would cancel this 'Payment Due' notice for me and gave me a cancellation #.

I got a "payment due notice" in the mail.

I recieved same letter from Processing Center PO Box 290907 Nashville, TN 37229-0907
The ID# on the letter is match to my ID# of below link
http://www.enhanceditp.com
That shows you your credit history, score....,
but their customer service is 877-816-8243.
My bank Wells Fargo made a contract for me when I opened a bank acount.
And then I was paying $15.99 monthly, but they did not charge last few months for Amex.
I don't really think it is scam, but I'll call to costomer service # above that in their website on Monday.

I just got the same notice. After holding for 4 minutes, my call was disconnected!

David,
I got the same letter and based on your link was able to contact Affinion Group. The operator connected me to "Customer Service" who told me I signed up for ID protection. I didn't remember doing that and asked for my "sign-up info". They said it would take 6 to 8 weeks to send me the hard copy. I still think it's a scam and would NEVER give out credit card info based on this kind of letter.
When I began to question the rep he said I could cancel this bill and just forget about the whole thing. That also raised some red flags. The number at Affinion Group is 800-251-2148. Ask for customer service if you would like to follow-up yourself.

Amex has no record of this company. Toss it.

I shredded the letter. I believe this must be spam, I could not find anything related to this mailing online besides your post.
| Claire 2013-01-02 15:46:28 Unknown |
I received the exact same letter to my work address and have been researching it ever since. Let me know if you find anything out?

I received a "PAYMENT DUE NOTICE" in the mail with no company name on the envelope or on the one page notice inside. It referenced a plan name "Af Pg Enhanced Dtc" with a monthly billing amount of $14.99. The first paragraph started with the following statement: "You are receiving this notice to inform you that we can no longer charge the payment amount due from your American Express account for the money-saving program you selected: Af Pg Enhanced Dtc." It included a toll free number to "our Customer Service Department": 877-344-7987.
The bottom of the notice included a form to be filled out and mailed to a "Processing Center" at Nashville, TN zip 37229-0907. The form included check-off boxes for Visa, MasterCard and Discover credit cards with spaces to provide the credit card information.
Googling was unsuccessful in identifying what "Af Pg Enhanced Dtc" meant. I called the listed 800 number and was placed on hold for a very long time but with music and periodic assurances that I would be speaking to the next available operator. I hung up after a few minutes. I next plan to report this scam to my credit card companies.
