I find one way to screen some of these is to put in a minimum rent.  I use a little below what is reasonable but 900 for a 4 bedroom + + + in San Diego is not real.  Using a number screens many- even if not all- out.  Also screens out those that do not list a price.... another scammer.

Craigs List asks you you flag them as 'prohibited' - not sure where I read that.

I justa very smiliar experience. I was searching for a house and called up the number they gave on the posting which was 949-613-7944 . A man answered. He said that the property is the type rent to own and when I said I am searching for someone else, he immediately hung up. I called up and tolod him it was very rude of him, unaware that that might be a scam. Later My ex told me ( I was doing search for him actually ) that they told him even just to show the property they asked $175. I think Craigs list need add a new flag list for frauds. No such thing exists but I flagged it for the closest reason I found there. I even thought about reporting it to FBI and internet Crime division but after going through all kind of options to choose, theyt asked me to bring proof, a document etc and report to police etc.. it got so big and complicated and I gave up. if they made this reportings easier maybe it would be easier to bust them and prevent many people's p[recious time and money. There are sooo many scammers out there and now I see I was not the only one who had that experice.

F*** Myrealtydeal.com. My roommate just called them for a craigslist ad and once they told her she had to pay first she said I will think about it and they guy immediately followed it by saying, "F*** you you f****ng bi***" in a devilish voice and hung u on her. These people aren't on'y criminals, they are mentally ill too. All of them are pathetic liars, just like our friend Tonya who had a really great story to tell us about my realty deal and cancer and her doggy, but honestly, my realty does NOT exist and neither does your story! You are lying!!!!!!

I just hung up from calling my reality deal about an ad on craig's list. The man was practically yelling at me when I asked for his companies information. He told me he would give me all that information after I gave him my credit card information. I told him I was uncomfortable giving that info with out knowing anything about the company. he asked me if I wanted to lease a house or get a fee sandwich. I asked for his supervisor and he continued to yell at me. I reported the ads as spam.. This guy was crazy...

These types of companies are flooding craigslist. Another one to watch out for is American Standard. They pull the same scam but for a bit more money. The company is My Realty Deal. (At least for now) the number I got was (949) 613 - 7946. The Lady gave me another number to call as well. (213) 570 - 1615. After researching this company as well as others, I found that what listings you might get usually have people living in them with no idea about renting or selling. I'm really disappointed that no one has been able to put a stop to this fraud once and for all. My advise is to stay far, far away.

Hahahaha!!!! Far as I can tell Nick & Tonya definitly work for this company, why else would ANYONE take it so personally?? Especially when the better business bureau rates thus "company" so poorly!! Lol.... These telemarketers are most definitly scamming people, my husband drove to the street on one of the ads, no address just the street name. That particular street was only 2 blocks long & the house in the ad did NOT exist on that street at all!!! "Nick" & "Tonya" should post the property & address they found as proof, otherwise, they're just full of sh*t too!!! Which I'm quite sure of anyway....

This is a scam.  Like others, I knew I was being flim-flammed when the rep claimed that I would be making mortgage payments directly to the bank for a beautiful 3 bed 2 bath house with a converted garage and pool in Pasadena for $1750--no way. Plus, they claimed that if the property was leased it would not be foreclosed on and that the $1750 a month covered the entire mortgage, so don't worry (my friend's Pasadena condo's mortgage is nearly twice that amount). When I called back to ask about their rating on the BBB site and few other questions, I got a really pushy guy (claimed that the owners ALWAYS know that their prop is for rent, but maybe some of them forget--O.K.) who hung up on me.  No real business hangs up on you when you ask legitimate questions...

OMG!!! I just hung up with them!!! The told me $165 and they will put me in DIRECT contact with the OWNER and i will be able to work something out with them immediately and that i can see the house as early as tommorow!

The jack*** i spoke to was Michael he gave me his direct number 213-595 1581.

I'm new to Craiglist and this just didn't feel right so i googled the 1-877 number and one of the FIRST things i saw was basically, DONT DO IT!!!!

I was TOTALLY gonna do it..I would LOVE to get these guys.

Concerning my realty deal......Where can these guys be reported specifically? State of CA? BBB? Federal? Does anyone have addrresses phone numbers or websites for reporting this fraud?

Does anyone know what craigslist actually does to prevent these listings? I, like everyone else saw a screamin good deal and I need just that. Of course the guy on the phone gave me all the assurances if aI would just sign up. When I said "Whoa" to the price he hung up. This is so discouraging to spend hours searching and 30 minutes on hold to find out these guys are a rip-off. We've been experiencing the same when car hunting on craigslist!

I talked to them today as my brother knew I had real estate background and wanted to pay the fee to get the membership, so I called in and the guy said Im sorry I only know so much I just started, I was able to get quite a bit of info.  These people cant pay their payments anymore but he said are no late yet, so they come to this company and ask to get someone to take it over, you the renter takes over their mortagage payment and they have you sign a quit claim deed....therefore you are assuming ALL responsibility for the debts and full amount owned on this property but the bank still holds the title.  Wow....scary stuff.  You could be trying to RENT a house for $1300 a month and end up with a house worth $100k that $400k is owed on it.  I said what happens if you only want to rent for a year and he said then they try to find someone else to quitclaim the deed and if they cant then you walk away from the house....SCAM!!!  This stuff is soooo sad!  They need to be reported...the number that I got was from Laguna Beach...he said they have been in business over a year and if you reverse the phone number lookup they dont even have a business listing.  949-613-7944

This is a scam!!!! You sound like you work for the company. They have been advertising the same listing for months now and each time they use a different picture, sometimes a one story, others a 2 story. I did my homework, there is no house on that street available!!!!!

This is most DEFINITELY a scam! I found a property on Craigslist last week on IVES LANE in Redondo Beach...it sounded so good, (no money down, no credit check, excepted pets, ect)...well, I called them and they gave me the same line--that it is normally $260 but they had a special through Friday for only $160. I told them I would have to think about it. Well, it's been a week and I decided to call them back..I asked them if the listing for IVES LANE was still available because I couldn't find it on Craigslist anymore...he told me yes, it was still available but that they might have taken it down from Craigslist if no one showed any interest in it. I asked him how I would know if they were legitimate or not..he said "we are registered w/ the FDIC" and I said well, I would rather come in to give you payment rather than give you my credit card information..he said that they don't allow "walk-ins" to save them money...but he did give their website Myrealtydeal.com. I decided to do a little research & the BBB rates them an F!! That means they have had numerous complaints. But get this--the reason I KNOW now that this is REALLY is a scam is because I just hung up with the guy a few minutes ago to look do a little more research...my gut feeling was that I needed to go on Craigslist again and look for some other place...well--they just re-listed the property for IVES LANE..with the same, exact description to a tee--except this time the pictures of the house were COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!!! I am SO grateful that I did my research and saved myself getting ripped off...the sad thing is that these people don't care about anyone's financial situations/difficulties....and that really pisses me off that they are taking advantage of people...everyone should report them & they should be prosecuted for these fraudulent activities! Their phone number was: 310-881-1308

just hung up with them. when I asked for the address of the craigslist listing, I was told no free peeks on the property. I asked if they own it, they said no, they get people in it to generate money for the banks on these pre-foreclosed and foreclosed homes.  I asked if it is pre-foreclosed, how do I know for sure I will not be evicted. I was told that they take care of all that. It did not sound convincing or truthful.  Then I asked which banks they represent, and was informed that the information is not given out.  All the while in-between each question, I was repeatedly asked for my name as it appears on my credit card.  I said I don't pay for a service until I understand how this works. I was told to stop playing games, give them my cc# or get the hell off the line, at which point they hung up on me.

It walks like a scam, talks like a scam and smells like a scam - stay away.  Keep your hard earned money.  There are legit property management companies, call them and ask to look into the property listing - which it what I originally thought I was contacting, a legit property management company.
