These jerks keep calling my fifteen-year-old autistic son, asking for Raena.  When I finally got in the phone, they wanted to know how long my son has had his number.   The woman was extremely rude, saying, "It's not a hard question! "  Fortunately, he has a reject option in his phone,  so we've added these rejects to the reject list!

These people are a complete joke. They have been calling me on and off for the past year claiming they are collecting on a an old debt from Wells Fargo. The debt I owed was paid more than 4 years ago, and I have documented proof. When I informed the rude lady on the phone, she tried to tell me it was for a different account and I needed to pay up. Do not ever let a collections agent bully you or threaten you; you have rights and you have every right to exercise your rights. That being said, I requested documentation showing the debt was valid and she said she would both e-mail and mail me the documents that day, and the email should arrive within 48 hours. Well, of course I never received any correspondence validating the debt. The crazy lady called me back one month later stating I never responded to their mail, and I informed her that she never sent me anything! She tried to argue with me, but I just wasn't going to take it. So I took the supposed account numbers, called Wells Fargo AND then proceeded to speak to a branch manager at the Wells Fargo near my work. Neither the customer service agent not the branch manager could locate any unsettled accounts in my name, or even the account number I was given! There aren't even enough digits in the account number the collection agency provided me to even count as a valid Wells Fargo account! The branch manager said to beware of shady collection agencies and to report these Varadi Hair and Checki people.

To anyone reading this, I know debt collectors are scary and the reason we get into this situation is usually out of sheer stupidity or hard times befalling us. But do not let some jerk hiding behind a phone make you feel like you're subhuman just because you owe some money. The worst thing you can do when one of these people call you is to let them persuade you into making promises to repay when you no you can't. Most of these debt collection agencies are trying to collect on debts way past the statue of limitations (these vary by state but old debts should be invalid after 7 years and removed from your credit report). These agencies CANNOT garnish your wages, unless it is a valid debt like you owe outstanding taxes, court fees/traffic tickets/student loans, etc. It is actually illegal for the debt collector to state that your items will be seized/garnished/etc. Do some research and educate yourself so fraudulent debt collectors can't scam you out of money you really need. http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection

This is a scam operation. Check out your state statute of limitations for whatever they are contacting you on. Chances are they can't do anything.

File a complaint against them with the BBB, FTC, State Bar of Louisiana and CFPB. Also file a CFPB complaint against any bank they claim is your "original creditor." They are a scam operation collecting on bogus debts.

Yes vhc is a law firm.  Same as palmar and associates and standley and associates.  They are scum debt collectors who troll the Internet to post positive reviews of themselves in an attempt to cover up the truth.  They are also most likely going to be indicted along with all of the other collection agencies that have been using forged affidavits claiming the bank signed it.  Yeah right.  Just look up Oxford indictment.  Same accounts. Look up wilbur tate indictment.  Same accounts.  Look up corona scam.  Same accounts.  Real lawyers that are breaking real laws.  Look up rincon.., same people!  And the wells bank employee definitely did not post that vhc worked for them.  Wells is cooperating with the Feds in the bribery, forged documents and arrest threat scam.  They certainly would not vouch for vhc.  Vhc works as part of the united credit criminal enterprise.  Just google united credit vs wells if you would like to know how wells feels about united credit.  Everyone I have talked to at wells has said that they will not even take calls from them because of fear that it will cost them their job or get them brought into the investigation.  I can post wells real attorney information if any of you need it.  Or just email sigtarp for making false claims on behalf of a tarp regulated bank.

First of all advising people not to call is bad advice. I work for a law firm that sometimes sues for old debt, they will take you to court!  Furthermore Stats of Limitations only apply to actually suing in court, plus there are different statutes for lets say contracts and bank debt.  The problem here is if you ignore it it will NOT go away, it will grow.  They may not be able to take you to court after stats, but when it comes to bank debt you will stay in chex systems until the debt is paid. period!  I for one, would rather pay a debt when it is small as opposed to paying one that has been accruing interest for 5 yrs.

Debt Collector
They called me regarding a debt to Wells Fargo dating back to 2007.  First of all the debt was a mistake on Wells Fargo's end, but that's a completely different story.  allthough they are a law firm, the person I spoke with sounded nothing like a lawyer.  In fact she sounded like they had just hired her off of the streets and she definitely sounded like an elementry school dropout.  Anyway, when/if you do call, DO NOT admit to anything.  I had an amusing 10 minute conversation with her and all I said was that the debt is not valid and I'd like written verification.  And that is all that you should say as well if you decide to call.  She kept trying to get information out of me...in other words trying to make me say that the debt is valid so I'd be on record saying so.  Too bad for her I guess.  Anyway, I don't suggest that you not call and I DO want you to make sure that you do not admit to the debt.  Say that you are disputing the debt, it's not valid and that you want written verification of it.  Also, get to know your SoL (Statue of Limitations).  In California, it is 4 years.  Yep, she couldn't do math either.  Good luck!

I kept getting missed calls from this number and was finally able to get a hold of them. They are a law firm who claims to be a collection company. For some reason they can never seem to get me a letter proving what I "owe" them and keep "losing" my information. The last time, they told me if I did not receive the letter by a certain date to call them back. Now the number just rings and ring and no one answers. They better not sue me for "refusal to pay" if they won't tell me how much i owe and send proof from whom the bill came.

It depends on when the attorney pulls your account.  It could be a week or several months. Trust me when I tell you, no matter how small the debt if you are in the attorney office you 'will' pay whether it be voluntary or from a judgement.  Also, if you wait until you go before a judge you face other charges, such as attorney fees from your attorney and the debt collectors attorney, plus court costs. (which can get pretty high).  I had a judgement against me for a charge card, it started out at 3500.00 after court costs I owed over 9,000.00 ( i had to file bankruptcy, which really ruined my credit.  So, please take heed, if you can call these people and make arrangements i suggest you do that instead of waiting for a court date.

I would avoid any law firm that refuses to send you documentation regarding their claim. These people have called me repeatedly with no current address, or anything else. A law firm would have resources to find out any current information that would want on you. I would be weary if I were any of you.

Take for what you will.  Obviously, if you do not owe a debt, you should not pay it.  I suppose my point is that lawsuits are filed almost daily against these collection groups out of Buffalo and Southern California threatening to have people arrested.  If you ever get a call from one of those groups you should take action immediately to have them shut down.  This group is certainly nice enough and are not terribly aggressive. The one time there was in issue it turned out to be our fault and Galen's staff was pretty patient with us in explaining what had happened.

I am a consumer attorney and have dealt with this firm.  They are really nice people.  They follow the letter of the law and don't use abusive collection techniques.  They seem to collect one specific type of debt, overdrafted checking accounts.  The attorney, Galen Hair, and I had a long conversation about what that means and how a lot of consumers forget they have those types of accounts.  He basically said his theory is to ask nicely several times, and if that doesn't work review for suit.  Overall, everyone I have spoken to there was an absolute delight.  Normally collectors can be hoodlums.  Not this group.  If you think you owe the debt, you will probably get a better deal with these guys.

Texas is ONE of them!  The only thing they can really do is attempt to freeze your bank accounts which is not cost effective and 2. Get a judgement, but that does not mean they will necessarily ever get in unless you allow them to!
