These people also called me today claiming to be a mediation group.  They were stating that I had to give them a credit card number and that the company that originated the debt would not accept any form of payment other than electronic.  I called the Federal Trade Commission office and spoke with an agent and she stated that BY LAW they must provide me with a written statement of the debt and that a consumer may pay their debts in any form they choose (mailed in, check, cash, credit card, etc.).  The next time the guy called I told him I had spoken with the FTC and that I was not going to go forward with any type of repayment until I received a written notice detailing the debt and that if I were to establish a payment plan that I would like to mail in my payments.  He said that his company did not send any form of written communication at all and that I had to pay electronically that there was not even an address where I could mail the payment.  He transferred me to the "general manager" who told me the same stuff so I told him I was going to call the FTC back and see what avenues were open to deal with this issue.  He tried the old "getting ready to go to court" but once I told him that I knew that it is illegal to threaten a consumer over the phone with legal/court threats, he stopped and said that my case was in fact in "pre-litigation".  Finally I told him I was going to call the FTC back again and tell them that he had told me I could not have the debt in writing, nor could I have any payment arrangement in writing, nor could I pay on the debt in any form other than electronic/credit card.  I called the FTC and the agent told me that the guy was lying, that this was an obvious scam and that these people are trying to bully and threaten in order to steal your money.  The FTC agent advised me to not even bother answering their calls.  He said it is a scam and that this type of tactic is becoming rampant in the U.S. right now.  The agent also advised me to contact the Attorney General's Office in my state, as well as the Credit Reporting Bureau to place a fraud alert on my credit report.  Again these people are liars and scammers and you DO NOT have to talk to them and you are under no obligation to give them any information.  Under federal law they are forbidden from contacting you at your place of employment and they are also forbidden from contacting you on your cell phone once you inform them that the number they are calling is your cell.  If they continue to contact you after you have told them to stop you should write what is called a "Cease Communication Letter" informing them that until you get a written statement of the debt in question that they are not to contact you at any number.  It is important that you send this letter by registered mail that requires a signature from the person accepting the letter, that way they cannot say that they never received the letter.  They have no authority to take you to court unless they follow the proper protocol for your state and you will have notice well in advance if this occurs.  If you are being harrassed by this company then the FTC advises that you call and lodge a complaint with the FTC Complaint Line.  Bottom line...the next time these people call you let them know that you know your rights and that you know that there have been several complaints filed with the FTC and that many of the tactics and statements they use are illegal and then HANG UP on them.

They called me too and upset me for the entire evening. How are they able to get all this personal information?

They've been calling me, too. Threatening that I will be delivered a summons for check fraud. I've contacted a lawyer and the police. They're a scam..they are payday loan bill collectors, not lawyers. Nobody is going to come to your house, even if they call and threaten if you don't pay.

Worried, i received the same call from, yesterday a lady named lisa left a message on my voice mail threating me she stated that charges were pressed against me, and to concider me warned for a payday loan, she had my old address. I freaked out and called them back today and told them i wanted documented proof that i owe this money,  and if i did i would be more than happy to pay my debt. the number she called from was unavailible, but she left a number of 877-800-246 and i was given a case # on top of that....

THEY GOT MY WHOLE SOCIAL SECURTITY NUMBER THREATING ME TO GIVE THEM A CREDIT CARD OR THEY TAKING ME TO COURT AND CHARGING ME WITH FRAUD,THEFT AND BAD CHECK WRITING I DONT REMEMBER THEM :(
I got a phone call early morning the day before thanksgiving from a woman telling me she was looking for me and has had numerous unsuccessful attempts and finally reached me and verified my last four of my social and she said she had a client who was going to press charges on me and had no other information to give me other than to call this number of 877-610-4948x312 and gave me a case number. I called that number they said i owed urgent cash advance and need to pay 583 before they take me to court i told the im a single mom with only $100mo income and they told me to pay $50 a month and they waived a $200 process fee to help me but wanted a credit card now to avoid the court process. I asked them where is this loan place at as I do not ever remember getting a loan from them and they would not tell me I asked where are they located and same thing they said for liabilty reasons they dont give that out i said mail me a statment they said the same thing they dont mail out anything. i said i think this is a scam and they gave me my entire social security number and old address and place of employment i called the fbi and BBB and they told me to ignore it i called them and told them i called the fbi and they laughed and told me to have them call them then. i searched for their name first they said they were CMI now i got a msg saying they are southwest mediation group and he has a new number 877-413-9156 same xtension 312 thats odd. What do i do??>???
