I am in collections now this company as of today.  I am not stupid..  Not giving this company or any CA my identifying info.  BofA was quick to sell my bad debt off.  Oh wait, BofA has never paid back any of its $45 billion bailout!  I am not a deadbeat...  Someone who is just in very hard times right now.  What's BofA excuse for not paying anything back to the Feds and the taxpayers????

We have available to us the greatest information-sharing device since the invention of the Guttenberg Press: the internet. On the internet, you can reverse look up any phone number and you will get info about that phone number. You put in 877-433-7012, and it will pull up "Collectcorp." But you think it is a scam because you are asked for the last 4 digits of your social security number....and this is logical to you because.....? Collectcorp is a collection agency. They have been in business for over 20 years. Their purpose is to call people who have defaulted on the credit cards and student loans. How is this fraud? If it's not your debt, you can contest it. If your social security number was stolen, you can contest it. If you don't have the money to make any payment at all, you can say so, answer some questions about what it is you are faced with and the file will be marked as unable to pay. How is this fraud? If you are called by someone who is rude to you, you can complain. How is this fraud? I don't get it. This doesn't make sense to me.

A person called from this number to collect money that I don't have - I didn't get a multi-billion dollar bail out like the lender did.  Maybe if the government would lend ME a few billion I could pay off all of my bills - actually, we could all pay off all of our bills with about 1/10th of the money thrown away recently by our gov.

Yeah...all 14 MILLION of us who have been laid off are just sitting around "with our legs crossed", with nothing better to do than to wait for you to call and demand "payment arrangements" for money that (quite frankly), doesn't EXIST right now.

Apparently you have been too busy (and more than likely), don't CARE, to notice the news stories nationwide of tens of THOUSANDS of people standing in line for hours (or even days), in hopes of finding work in an increasingly shrinking job market.

Recently 700 people applied for ONE advertised janitorial position in my area. Does this SOUND like we are sitting around on our BUTTS?

It's so easy for you Collector Trolls to come on this and other websites and spew your self-righteous indignation about us so-called "deadbeats" being "responsible" and "paying our bills". And, as for us making "payment arrangements", you needenth look any further than this or any other consumer website on the internet to discover that the majority of us who have attempted to make such arrangements in good faith have either been unmercifully harassed and verbally abused or dragged into kangaroo courts for nothing LESS than the "FULL AMOUNT" (and thensome). On the other hand, your Colleagues "agree" to a payment plan. We give our our banking information, TRUSTING you to debit a predetermined amount on such-and-such a date, only to turn around and discover that more money has been taken out than what was originally agreed to....or our accounts completely emptied, with little or no legal recourse, leaving us DESTITUTE.

Is it any wonder, then, why we DON'T want you calling? This recession (DEPRESSION is more like it), has made beggars out of MILLIONS of people who were once financially secure, who have (or are in the process of) losing everything they own. You continue your MINDLESS and REPEATED calls in order to coerce a "check by phone" AFTER you have been REPEATEDLY told over and over and OVER again that the MONEY IS NOT THERE. And, NO amount
of intimidation and threats (implied or otherwise), is going to cause a potential employer to give us a job any faster...just so you can keep YOURS.

CollectCorp - is another FDCPA Violator as indicated by the budhibbs.com website - I doubt the US Government would be using a Collection Agency in Canada.

Bud Says                         Consumer Comments Below

Used to be a decent organization, lately they have apparently turned a blind eye to the law and gone WAY down on the quality of debt collectors they hire. We understand they are paying off many more law suit because of the violations their debt collectors are pile up. It?s the usual  group of lies, threats, intimidation, of arrest, seizure and notifying third parties about debts.

Here is an email we received about them:

?When Maria of Collectcorp called us regarding an AMEX bill, she was NOT happy that we couldn't pay that day in FULL. She told my husband that if things were that bad for us, he either needed to file for Bankruptcy or blow his head off! I don't think it would matter if I'd recorded the conversation with her, she didn't actually THREATEN violence... The joke is on her, though, because there's no life insurance either! Unbelievable...?

The good news for consumers and attorneys is they DO pay the suits and pretty fast, using several reputable law firms, one in Southport, CT, and one in Houston, TX.

Head Debt Collectors and Canadian residents Linda Matheson and James Bruce Conley appear to be suffering what a LOT of older established debt collectors is up against and that is the influx of all the new blood who thinks there is a pot of gold in this industry. That competition has greatly enlarged the market, causing a thinning of both accounts and the pool of reliable collectors available. They recently opened a new office in Phoenix due to the problems in Buffalo.

Meanwhile, consumers are getting smarter, consumer attorneys are filing more lawsuits and Collect Corp is paying off. Anyone contacted by Collect Corp is advised to tape record their calls as a good tape will always result in a bigger settlement.

If you find anything on a credit report from Collect Corp., you would be wise to dispute it with the credit bureaus as ?not my account.?

Make them validate their claims in writing, NEVER give a Collect Corp collector access to your banking or credit cards.  Contact me for referral to a REAL consumer attorney.

CAUTION: I recommend you NEVER disclose your bank account or credit card information to a debt collector, as you risk them emptying your account, or maxing out your credit card. If you feel they are reporting on your credit bureau files in error or need assistance in dealing with them, email  the details w/your location.  Assistance and referral to a consumer legal specialist may be available.

If you are getting these calls, remain calm and inform them you are recording the conversation to ensure they are providing quality service. Be sure to record the conversation. If they request you shut the recorder off then explain that would require you to terminate the conversation. Be sure to log their name and employee id number and a supervisors name. Get control of the situation before they get control of you.

Yeah, return the call and it's constant harrasment for money. It may be money you owe, but if you had the cash to pay you wouldn't be in this situation. Don't call them back until you can commit to a payment.

CollectCorp collects for more than just the government.  Besides, the goverenment is the biggest orgainzation of thieves is history.  Ever hear of the Boston Tea Party!  If you really owe it, be sure to check ever dime, then pay up.  However, if they claim you owe more than you do, fight it!  Never say the debt is valid, fight a good fight. Pay only what is owed.  If you pay more you paying for corporate jets and luxury perks.

Collect Corp is trying to settle a debt from a friend.  My friend is willing to do so but can't at this time.  Mike Shane (Collector) wants a post-dated check sent right away.  My friend does not write checks for funds that are not available.  My friend asked me to call and explain no post-dated check.  When I called, I spoke to Mike Shane and advised him to call debtor for permission to speak to me about the matter.  He said he didn't have to call and wanted to know who I was.....told him just a friend.  I told him there would not be a post-dated check (that's not what checks were designed for).  He continued to tell me the matter could be resolved through legal action because the debtor works for ______, County, and the state of ______.  This is violating the FDCPA for sharing information without direct permission from the debtor.  After Mike started getting cocky, I stated again no post-dated check and terminated the call.

Someone called and asked for me by name, then requested the number for the lobby to my apartment building. When I asked who she was, she told me her first name and repeated that she just wanted the phone number for my apartment lobby. I pointed out that she still hadn't explained who she was or why she was calling and told her not to call me any more.
