I'm not sure.  I haven't returned the text yet.  They asked me to call them.

Would it be so hard to just say who they are in the text? It's not like its Twitter with a character limit.

This number is a part of Careers Inc, which is a verification service for employers for hundreds of different job boards. I'm a representative of Careers and would like to clarify why you're getting a text from us on this number.

We receive a large quantity of resumes for thousands of positions across the country, and our job is to verify that your contact information is correct. Employers use Careers because they get such a massive response to job postings. It's very hard for any company to sort through interested applicants - people are not reachable, their phone numbers are disconnected, or their email is invalid or typo'd on their resume. This leads to frustration on both ends, where applicants receive no response and employers get bad contact info for an otherwise qualified individual.

Careers attempts to contact applicants to confirm that their information is correct - if it is not, then we help them to correct it and update the employer on the applicant's status.

We do not ask for any sensitive information such as SSN. We do not charge for our service. We will never ask you for anything beyond confirming what's already in your resume on file.

If they want your information to be verified, then instead of sending a text message...easy way out, they need to pick up the phone and call.  I never stated I would accept communication in the form of text messages.

They texted me as well, asking I call them about a Pharmacy Technician position. They may be branching out. Beware.

I also received a txt with this number listed. It was about a Software Tester Job, that was truthfully below my level. They did however have my real name in the txt, so they are signed up with the job search site.

I have never gotten a text message for any job I applied for which is why when I got this number saying to "call me back" it raised a red flag. Glad I found this site. I will not be responding to whoever these people are. If I remember correctly it was for a "it call center" gig and the salary was listed as 39000/yr which was listed in the initial ad link, aside from the fact that 39000 is an unusually high salary for a call center now that I think about it. My instinct is that these people are not who they say they are. Just some saps trying to take advantage of the high unemployment rate I suppose.

Despite what whomever says in the official looking post from 'Careers Inc.' this is definitely a scam.  A google search returns only a company specializing in Puerto Rican company that is an 'Executive recruiting firm with a database of Hispanic, bilingual, bi-cultural talent available.'  Their website - http://www.careersincpr.com/

It appears the writers of the post are trying to head off any semblance of being a scam by posting on sites where people go to first after receiving a text.  Each site has their little explanation.  Of course no valid website it listed in the explanation.  And why would a company need verification?  If you put the wrong phone/email/contact info on your resume that is more indicative of your employment readiness then any interview could be.  Why would anybody pay a company to track down people who cannot properly create a resume with correct contact info?  Those are exactly the people I wouldn't want to have working for me!

Additional searches for 'Career Inc scam' do produce several results.  Including the first which is how the they got my number.  Applying to a somewhat real looking mycity-career-network.com webiste.  Read the article and comments to see that the person involved in this and many other scams is a man named Ahmed El-Defrawi.
