I have received the same phone call too!! I am dealing with these guys now, but I've had a total of 3 other agencies call me using the same speech!! I'm not sure what to do because this is in fact a fraud!! My situation started about a year ago when I was contacted by a company that managed to talk me into paying off a payday loan that I knew I did not take out. (I thought my ex husband possibly took it out in my name). They refused to send me any paperwork until it was paid.....stupid me, I paid $1100. Since then, every 2-3 months I get a phone call from a "new" company. All of these companies have a location in GA or in the same part of NY. I know that I will never get my $1100 back, but I don't know how to make this stop for good. They started calling an old employer of mine and leaving threatening messages with the owner's wife. My mother is the CFO at this company so the owner's wife kept the recording and forwarded it to my mother in an email, which she forwarded to me. I am so embarrassed that my mother and previous place of employment (who was very good to me) are being harassed for something that I don't even owe. I've learned my lesson as to not pay unless the send it in writing, but I worry about them finding my current job and getting me fired. Please advise of any way that I can deal with this. I don't have the money to hire a lawyer, I know that some will take it with out up front cost, but don't even know where to begin!!

PAYING THESE GUYS WILL NOT STOP THE CALLS.....IT ONLY MAKES IT GO TO ANOTHER COMPANY BECAUSE THEY FIGURED OUT YOU WILL PAY TO AVOID ANY FURTHER ACTION!!!!

Received a call from Nationwide Mediation Firm at about 3;10 p.m. EST at work.  My boss happened to take the call and was told that they needed my address to serve me papers after she was told who they were.  Like an idiot, she gives it to them.  I guess these idiots have really gotten her scared, too.  As I was getting some coffee in the break room, and as we were closed in the lobby, (this is a bank that was called)  she foud me as I was coming back out to the floor again where I was just about to shut down my computer and she told me to call these guys back right away.  The number is:  1-888-516-3677, claim #: 145968, and about a payday loan from 3/2008.  Yet, when I asked, they couldn't tell me why the original company never sent me any paperwork on their company letterhead or at least given me the coursity of a telephone call.

When I did call, (can't remember to whom I spoke) they could give me any info unless I verified my name and adress (stupid of me to tell them that) and thet's when they told me it was from a payday loan from March of 2008.  Anyway, the man I spoke to (spunded kind of young) told me thet if I can set up a date to take the money out of my account, they'd settle for $600.00 instead of $880.00 ( I was told that much of this was accrued interest).  Anyway, I explained that, as I did not want to go to court but to settle the matter, he transferred to to a Mr. Garcia, who said the same thing as the guy I just spoke to.  The first guy was told that I didn't have my debit card with me, as I left it home - and I did - so I had no way to give hime any information, anyway.  When Mr. Garcia heard that, he said that they "settlement was no longer in effect" and he had no way to help me.  They then said goodnight and hung up the phone.  Nice, right?  If this doesn't sound like a scam to me, I don't know what does.  And for this I changed my dental appointment to have a filling done just to go up to the local library and look up this crappola and post this warning (which is a good thing that I did, instead of just going home, getting my card number, calling them back, and getting screwed - again - for 6-8 hundred dollars).  Two years ago, I get a very similar type of call from people from India that screwed me out of $1,100.00 with basacially the same kind of phone call.  That's why I came onto the computer first, and not just given them all my personal information.  They tried to do it again in July of 2010, and they said they were sending the cops to arrest me.  Needless to say, I'm still waiting.  They still leave me messages every now and then with all of their threats, but I never call them back.  Maybe I should, and then very loudly, blow a whistle in their ear and keep on doing it at least 3-4 times a day.  Maybe that might help and they'll think twice about and doing this again, maybe not, but at least it will be fun!!!!!

Wel, anyway, good luck everyone, and keep up the good fight.  But, DO NOT EVER CALL THEM BACK AND UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, GIVE THEM ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION!!!!!  Just a word of caution, okay?

I was called in the office by my supervisor in reference to a called she received from a company called ADR Firm, which is Nationwide ADR Collection Agency.  She spoke to Drew Jackson from the company.  He told her that he was looking for me to serve court papers in reference to a personal matter.  He had been calling my work, harassing my coworkers about me.  Drew Jackson had called on several occasions.  I have not heard about this company before then.  Nationwide ADR Firm had not contacted me at home or mailed me a letter. I checked my mail from the previous months, and have not received a single letter from them.
I think that this was cold hearted of Drew Jackson to called my workplace and speak to my supervisor.  His only mission was to put pressure on me with my supervisor and to get me in trouble at work.  Drew Jackson should be ashamed of himself.  I think that China should hire him to work for them.  He would go after our government in reference to the debt that we owe them.

I got a call at home from my sister that a woman by the name of "Tonya Morgan" who claimed that she is an Independent Process Server/Locator.  Her first question was that in order to confirm my identity, she wanted me to confirm my SSN and that she has been hired by ADR to serve me paperwork to appear in court unless I call ADR Firm at 877-908-6229 and give a  "case number."  When I told her to just bring me the paperwork instead because I am tired of being harrassed at work - she said that once he brought me the paperwork that I would be required by law to go to court on this matter and told me that I have "officially been notified" before hanging up..

Update:

Just got off the phone with my father in law and apparently ADR just called him in MI looking for me.  The person that called told him that if I did not contact them in the next 24hrs with a payment I would be served with papers and potentially have crimanl charges brought against me.

First off, I've NEVER used my in laws as a reference, so how they got their number is beyond me.  I kept my maiden name, never filed a joint tax return with my husband so how they traced my in laws down is a mystery.  Secondly, scaring elderly people this way!  Unreal!! Its so unethical! The person without coming right out and asking for the money from them basically said that he didn't care who paid my "debt" as long as it was paid and it would be the only weay to keep me out of "trouble".

I don't know about anyone else but I'm getting really tired of crooks trying to scam people out of money!  I've called the AG and filed a report with the FTC but I'm seriously considering hiring a lawyer to sue these people!

Times are tight for everyone but it gives no one the right to try to con people out of what little money they have.  I don't scare easy but I know others do and its what these crooks count on.  They also count on people being to busy to follow through, maybe its time we push back!

I hope you did not pay. Even if you owe. They are violating your rights and they themselves can get into massive trouble if they are doing what you say. Here is a link that tells your right and at the bottom there is a link of where you can file a complaint.

Without a doubt these collection calls are them trying to get you to pay or set up payment. I see them all the time now trying to trick or scare people into paying something they might not even owe. Everytime someone has called me, I tell them to send  the information to my home. I never get anything, ever. Here is a great link that shows what your rights are and what collectors are not supposed to do. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre18.shtm  It also gives a link at the bottom of where you can send a complaint to if they violate your rights. They are definately violating peoples rights.

Same thing just happened to me, only now the caller is "Sarah Thomas."  The incoming call was from an Unknown number, though.  An ADR Firm had gotten a fax about me and they needed my address to serve me papers.  Clearly a scam.

Lilly gives good advice.  I have had conversations with legitimate debt collectors who were clearly looking for someone else.  I always told them: mail me a letter describing my supposed debt, because I've never heard of the debt.  They're fine with that, because they don't want to waste their time calling the wrong people.  Scammers will keep trying different nonsense to see who will cough up money just on their suggestion.

I just had the same thing happen to me.

Got a call listed as unknown but the call back number left was the same as listed above by everyone else and the msg left was verbatium as everyone else above.

This is a full on scam and in total violation of fair debt collection laws.  No debt collector can threaten a lawsuit or criminal charges in an effort to collect a debt.  This type of scare tactic has been deemed illegal and can cost the people and/or company involved thousands in penalties (paid to you!).  Also it is a federal offense to misrepresent oneself as a legal firm, lawyer or an agent of the courts.  This can also result in criminal prosecution and jail time for those involved.

My advice to everyone getting calls from these people, save all voice mails, written communications and record all live phone calls (after notifying them they are being recorded), also ask that they send you a copy of said "charges" or legal activity be mailed to you (it is against the law to use the USPS to commit a crime and automatically bumps any criminal activity up to a federal offense) After, call your AG, your local DA and the FTC to report them.  They'll be out of business soon enough and by the sounds of it, it will be they that end up facing "charges".  Isn't irony grand... lol

People in debt have rights, companies or debt collectors cannot use fear or intimidation tactics to collect a debt.  You also have a right to deal directly with the company that the debt was originated with.  Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.  If this comapny won't give you any information of who they're supposedly representing, when exactly the debt was originated with and the full dollar amount, they're a scam!

Also something people don't know is that there is a statute of limitation on how long a creditor has to collect on a debt.  These companies will buy what's called "penny debt".  Once the statute of limitation has expired on a debt, "reputable" collection agencies will sell the debt for pennies on the dollar owed to less reputable companies.  The more aggressive the collection practice, the likelihood is that they no longer have any legal remedies to pursue the debt and will attempt to scare people into coughing up money thereby giving them nearly pure profit as they're no longer obligated to pass on any of the funds collected over to the originating creditor.  Also profanity and calling prior to 8am or after 9pm is also a BIG no-no!

Knowledge is power!  If you're not sure of what the law is or the statute of debt collection limitations google "fair debt collection practices" to become enpowered!

There is no such thing as debtors prison in this country!  The only entity that can put you in jail for debt is the IRS and they too have a statute of limitations (10 years if I remember right) and more often then not, they'll work with you.  They only time the IRS will arrest someone is if they actively lied about how much they owed in taxes.

Well there's also the DA for bad checks but that's an entirely different matter.  A lot of payday lenders will attempt to use this scare tactic to get people to pay up as typically people are asked to submit a voided check to secure the loan.  Seeing as the voided check precludes intentional check fraud, trying to scare people with criminal prosecution to collect on a payday loan is simply illegal!   Many states are deeming pay day lenders as preditory and you have legal recourse there is well!

IMPORTANT:  Don't give your address, credit card information or any other personal information to anyone over the phone!  If they're a legit debt collector, they should already have all this information and will honor your request to handle all repayment via the mail!  You also have a right to have information mailed to you regarding the originating debt and creditor and then a certain amount of time to dispute the debt (typically 30 days) and during the dispute time while the validity of the debt is invesatigated, all debt collection attempts during this process must cease!  If they cannot sufficiently prove that you owe the amountstated, to whom the debt is owed and that the statute of limitations hasn't expired, they must automatically cease all collection practices!  You must also be very careful to never officially acknowledge that you owe the money!  If the statute has expired but you acknowledge the debt, depending on the laws of your state, you may unkwowingly end up resetting the clock on the debt!

One last thing... as to contacting other people about you, there are strict laws prohibiting this as well.  If you've given references to get in touch with you, there strict laws here as well.  A company cannot release any information about you to anyone else but you or someone you've authorized to act on your behalf!  All a company has a right to do is leave their info and ask that a message be passed along!  They cannot release any info about you to what's considered a "third party". This is another big violation and can cost them even more in penalties and as this would be a violation of privacy laws and can see them hauled into court!  People have rights and if ADR was a legit law firm or process server (it is highly unlikely that any company looking to sue you will hire an atty or PS out of state!  Usually the Marshalls or local Sheriffs office is tapped to serve people) and if they were legit, they'd know all this!!!  They sound like the most recent plague of our bad economy!

Best of luck folks, hope all this has helped!

John Parker, initially called my parents at their home in Texas claiming they were serving me papers to appear in front of a judge unless I called 855-204-7722 claim # 129463 and made an arrangement. On February 8, 2011 at 12:34. (This is what they told my parents.)

I immediately called the number and asked for in writing a verification of the debt. A company called Nationwide answered the called. They said that they were a mediation company. They Debt was from a Pay Day loan where the last payment was missed and from March of 2009. I asked if I could get teh information they listed in writing so I could verify it. They said they would not provide anything in writing but they would knock of the location fee of $200 and the total owed would be $118. If I choose not to pay they would proceed and deliver me papers taking me to court. I choose to to pay unless I had some sort of paperwork.

The next day I received a phone call from John Parker on my cell asking me if I paid Nationwide. I said no. Then they wanted to verify my address and a time to deliver the paperwork. I gave them a somewhat fake address and he said since I had moved to a new state that they would have to send the request to their California office. When I asked what company he was from he said and independent contractor.

At the same time a ex-coworker of mine notified me that they had left a voice mail on his machine from Steve, claiming that I owe money and they would be delivering court papers to my work. (Once again giving details to the wrong party) John then called my ex-coworker 10 minutes later ans poke to him in person. He wanted to know where I was. When he refused to give him any info he threaten to come down and "kick his a**" If I owe a debt I will pay it but I will not me threatened. Will I get served? Should I pay the $118? I truly think its a scam.

This place called themselves Global, called a friend of mine in another state to get in touch with me. Said they didn't want to have to serve me papers to clear this up. Gave him PHONE #:877-522-7563 with a claim # for me to call them back. I did call back, they wanted a credit card # so they could set up a payment plan. 1st they wanted $150 a week, then will settle for $300 month. Tried to scare me into paying them or they are filing "THEFT BY FRAUD" charges on me. I believe this is fraud.

The representative Allison Moore has not only called my home, but the homes of my relatives leaving threatening messages. She cites a claim number and then threatens to file charges against me, come to my house, have me arrested, and all the while she will not tell me what the charges are for or who they are affiliated with. She claims they are sealed in an envelope and she can't say. Huh?

I have retained an attorney and told Allison Moore she needs to speak to him, but she refuses to and keeps threatening me and my relatives and demanding my address so she can come out to get me. I filed complaints with my state attorney general and the FTC.

I just received number 2 of this type of call.  They told me to call 877-522-7653 as well. Funny thing,  yesterday they said was my only chance to call or they'd serve me papers to appear in court.  Then this morning when they called, they said again that this was my last chance and that if I did not call the number by lunch time, They'd come serve me papers at work.  I almost want to call the number and request in writing the substantiation of the debt.  I'm thinking too that I should keep track of all the calls and correspondence for future reference if they do not stop.  One thing, If you request in writing that they stop communicating via telephone and request all correspondence be in writing, they have to comply.  Also mail all communications via registered mail so they cannot claim they never received it.  But talk to your post office for specific details.  If I do decide to call, I will record my phone call as well.  After informing them that the call is being recorded of course.  We'll see what happens.
