If you have been scammed by CCBrown or other business names that CCBrown may have used (?Sentry Legal,? ?WT Lee? and ?JL Martin,?), the FBI wants to talk to you, press release here http://www.fbi.gov/saltlakecity/press-release ... est-valley-city

The letter looks official at first. But I was lucky enough to have a friend that is a lawyer do some investigating and it turns out it's just another scam. Don't do it.

The first red flag was that they are not endorsed by the BBB. Lawyers playing a scam. I just sent a complaint about this company.

I spent a great deal of time with a gentleman talking he seemed quite genuine I'm glad I followed it up with the research and found your note. Thanks for the tip off.He talked about losing his wife to colon cancer and being from Louisiana.Wondered why someone from Utah is calling to us Tenn. people. We're even pretty well caught up. It made me aware of how much my mortgage company has made off of me though.Sad there are so many opportunists out there.

Indeed www.MakingHomeAffordable.gov is a legit website. Anyone in need of assistance with their loan should visit this site to see if they can offer you some type of help.

I received several mailers from 2012-Mortgage Relief Advisory. Decided to check them out on the Better Business Bureau website and found them listed under 2010-Mortgage Relief Advisory (no ratings or complaints) also listed under C C Brown Law LLC (48 customer complaints including practicing without a licsense). Mailer advertises phrases such as "Homeowners Advocate Council" which I also looked up and was how I stumbled across the list of complaints and warnigs which I am adding to. Never actually had contact with this business, fortunately, and I recommend everyone to do their homework before trusting any company soliciting you. Please be aware, especially when it comes to companies like these who prey on people in need of help, no money should be asked for up front! That is an immediate red flag and if you are asked to pay ANY fees upfront please do not pay and report the company as a scam to the Better Business Bureau right away.

Dave 2011-10-19 22:07:02 Unknown
Scam...I ended up paying 4200 to them and still had to pay 4300 down to my mortgage company just to keep the same payment I had before. I hate them.

"its the chance i take hiring a attorney...duh.. and its better then not doing anything and losing everything" is a false assertion. The choice isn't between hiring CCB and no attorney. It's about hiring a legit attorney who does *NOT* :
1. employ shills on the internet and perhaps elsewhere
2. claim the attorney exemption to charge $$$ up front if it's not entitled to it (and CCB is not entitled to it)
3. have so many negative posts on the internet that domains had to be created to cripple "ccbrown scam" internet searches
4. appeared to have practised law in Idaho without a license as claimed by Howard S on 10 Feb 2011 on this page
5. appeared to have used deception in letters of solicitation to make homeowners think CCB is related to the government
6. break Utah state law by continuing to perform mortgage mods without a Utah mortgage license after it was told not to do so by the state and for which it was fined $5,000 in 2010 http://realestate.utah.gov/actions/46896.pdf and I still can't find CCB in the NMLS National Mortgage Licensing System & Registry http://www.nmlsconsumeraccess.org/ If anyone finds it, please post it here.
It doesn't help CCB that an alleged former employee named "unknown" posted on 14 Oct 2011 http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-877-725-9020 "I am a former employee of that company and they do not work with the government. Turn the other way they are a low down dirty company that can not be trusted. This is why I no longer work there."
To everyone who reads this:
1. If you google "ccbrown scam" the top hits are ccbrownscam.com, ccbrownlawscam.com and others that are nothing but fake promotional webpages for CCB. Someone, with or without ccbrown's blessing (what do you think!?), is using various techniques, including creating websites with specially crafted names, to grab the top listings returned by internet search engines. To find the real dirt on ccbrown, google "ripoffreport ccbrown scam" and "scam.com ccbrown scam -ccbrownscam -ccbrownlawscam" (copy and paste, or type, the quoted strings into google). The minus signs tell google not to return hits containing ccbrownscam and ccbrownlawscam.
2. If you hire any attorney, especially an out-of-state one, you *must* check with your state's licensing board and verify that the attorney is licensed to practise law in your state. Then contact the state that the attorney is in and ask their licensing board if there are government actions or consumer complaints against that attorney. Doing these 2 things will save you a world of grief.
Beware of shills on this thread and *all* ccbrown-supported web pages on the internet.

I cant believe a couple people on here who do nothing but bad talk a company who helps homeowners that are behind. I was 6 payments late because i lost my job and facing foreclosure, I NEEDED HELP. ccbrown didnt put me 6 months behind, I DID. they explained entirely that I am hiring a attorney to help me avoid losing my house. I understood it no problem... just like if i was to hire a attorney to stay out of jail. no guarantee i wouldn't go out of jail, its the chance i take hiring a attorney...duh.. and its better then not doing anything and losing everything to theses banks that dont care. Anyways they saved my home, and i knew what i was getting into from the beginning. It took 5 months but its all done now. Best advise i can give amyone is dont fall behind, u want to know who r the sharks, the banks r. they dont care and will put a family out in the streets.

Good lord, what a crock, "Tiffany." Get a real job, and quit trying to con people.
anonymous 2011-09-06 15:32:52 Unknown
Beware Tiffany is a shill for this scam. Read through this thread and see for yourself. Ask yourself what legit law firm uses shills? CCB is not eligible for the MARS attorney exemption (despite what they may tell you) so do not pay them any money up front if you decide to call them. CCB has already been sanctioned and fined $5,000 in 2010 by the state of Utah for offering mortgage modification help without a mortgage license http://realestate.utah.gov/actions/46896.pdf (the good stuff starts in paragraph #9). If you're looking for mortgage help, read my reply to poster "scared" on page 3. I advise you to stay away from CCB.

I also received an official looking maiing with a heading of Housing & Economic Recovery Program (P 110-289) Pre Qualification #US-17521-19553-E. Urging Me to call 1-888-593-5196. At the bottom is the name of the law office of CC Brown Law Group. Is this for real and how can I find out?
ScoutMom 2011-08-30 23:44:51 Unknown
Thank u so much for this info. I will definitely be reporting them.
anonymous 2011-08-28 03:00:33 Unknown
Am sorry you've lost money to CCB. Your best bet IMO is to report CCB to the Utah Division of Real Estate http://www.realestate.utah.gov/ and tell them your story and tell them to read the posts on this 800notes page. They've already issued a cease & desist order to CCB in 2010 to stop offering mortgage mods without a mortgage license http://realestate.utah.gov/actions/46896.pdf (the real fun starts on paragraph 9) and it doesn't look like CCB currently has a license because they're not in the NMLS=National Mortgage Licensing System http://www.nmlsconsumeraccess.org/ Since CCB is primarily involved in negotiating mortage mods, it is not entitled to claim the attorney exemption and charge money up front for mortgage mods http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2011/02/mars.shtm
scoutMom 2011-08-27 13:29:45 Unknown
I'm assuming you work for CC Brown. I believe everything that was told to us by Mr. Nick Ferrin was a LIE. HE promised he could get our mortgage modified with out us having to file our taxes. and that is not the case. Case work is now demanding all Tax returns be filed or they cannot move forward. Also our payment was taken out of our acct last month on the 26th, should of been the 2nd -- again this month the 26th. after promises it had been moved to the 2nd. I'm very upset and feel our money has been wasted.
ScoutMom 2011-08-27 13:25:13 Unknown
How do I contact you? I'm having trouble w/CC Brown. Total LIES on the day we handed over our acct numbers to authorize payments from our checking account. I never should of done this. I"m so upset.

anonymous 2011-04-27 23:42:24 Unknown
I advise you stay away from CCBrown just because of their numerous shills on this thread; reputable law firms do not shill. Always check out the company out thoroughly before committing yourself. Google is your best friend on the net.
First go here http://www.makinghomeaffordable.gov/Pages/default.aspx and read through the site to find out what sort of help may be available to you. Read through the whole site as you need to fully understand the types of help out there.
For help on your particular mortgage situation, find and talk to a HUD-approved housing counselor in your local area here http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/hcc/fc/ It's free. I haven't tried it so I can't tell you what it's like.
Be aware that as of 01/31/2011, it is illegal for any mortgage-help company to charge you money up front. This regulation is broad and covers *ALL* companies engaged in any and all facets of mortgage help (attorneys are exempt if they meet certain criteria). You can only be charged *after* you get the help you need. Like if it's a loan modification to lower your monthly payment, you can only be charged after the mod is successfully concluded and only after you *begin* making the actual lowered payments. Read about it here http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2011/02/mars.shtm
Beware of scams http://www.loanscamalert.org/
If you're a shill wanting to figure out if I'm still watching this page... well, I am.
