Debt Collector
Received a call from number today, said I had a court case pending.  I have been getting these exact calls monthly from different "companies", I have no outstanding debt.  You would think someone would be able to shut these people down.

These guys called myself, my sister and my mom stating they were had served me a Complaint to my address (never recieved a complaint or anything from them), and that i need to have my lawyer call them or myself.
Called them back, they were very rude, I told them my name and stated that is all the information i will give, now what is the reason for the harassment. They stated they would get to that but wanted me to give them some more information to verify my identity. I stated, no, i would not be giving them any more information, The phone number im calling from is the phone number you called, and my name is tom ferlaak. She then told me she was going to proceed with legal action. I agreed she should because then i would actually know what the call is about.
This has to be a Scam, I have no outstanding debt or items so im not sure why they are calling me. They originally gave me the 877-529-8033 number when they called a couple days ago, but now they are giving 877-476-3579 (which upon google search comes up an apartment complex in Durham, NC.)

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Debt Collector
People keep calling from this number asking to speak with one of my employees, they want to "deliver legal papers". I gave her two messages already. She called them back the first time. They claim she has a unpaid credit card from many years ago. A credit card she has never had! They have all of her info including her home and cell numbers. On the 3rd call I asked why they have to keep calling her work when they have her phone numbers. They woman started getting an attitude and told me it was non of my business and as a business owner I should be more professional. Really??? Then stop calling!!!
I gave the employee the 3rd message and then called the woman back and told her to not call here again. That went over real well!

Received a call from 877-529-8033
Called back, very rude people, she identified herself as Jackie.   Started asking for personal information which I denied.  From there she said she would come to my place of employment.    I replied I didnt appreciate any type of threat or harrassment like that, and would be reporting them.

Whether you are called a debtor or some collector thinks you can flush one out, you have rights and options. Many are simple to exercise if you only learn how. You are entitled to proof of claim and fair treatment. If you get neither, the collection agency should *not* win your assets. You are granted control of how you are contacted, the right to dispute debt claims, and the means to sue violators at low cost. The FTC and the CFPB can start you on your homework. See also if your state laws grant additional or stronger rights.
