Says they are an attorney. Call her back to settle debt before she takes me to court. But then says it is from a bill collector. I don't owe anyone.

How was your day working as a debt collector for Regent? Did you make your scam quota and hose people out of a lot of $$?

After some research, it appears this one really is an attorney.  Last time someone like this scammed me, they were two disbarred lawyers out of Dallas.  However, Mr. Anh Huynh Regent appears to be a crafty con man attorney who has his minions spamming these sites with misinformation.

Suggest you do find all the details of this, then contact your own defense counsel.  Remember they are limited in Texas in both what they can do and in time frame.

A shining example of why you cannot act on any reflex to "just take care of the debt and get it over with". Lawbreaking debt collectors are not in business to help you "do the right thing". Their job is to drain your assets and hope you don't notice just how many of your rights are being denied. Stop asking, "How do I pay"; start demanding, "Prove I owe"!

In Jennifer's place my dispute would never have reached a point of any "payment arrangement", since I know too well the collector would only find a way to sour the deal or wriggle out of it, then blame me falsely for my "lack of cooperation". Under no circumstances would ANY such company get the keys to my bank account. But let's say I lost my mind and agreed to those things. The best response to getting jerked around and hit with bank fees is not yet more negotiation. My tormentors would get a draft FDCPA complaint and fifteen days to make me happy. On day sixteen they get a summons if I'm still unhappy.

Then essentially the thugs get a bill from me: $1K statutory, plus as actual damages the total of all overdrafts and bank penalties, plus compensation for wages lost while I fought in court, plus my legal fees. That in its way is doing the right thing, making one scofflaw's job difficult and landing a roundhouse blow against abusive firms.

Regent & Associates filed a lawsuit against us about a year ago.  We got an attorney and answered the suit.  We just got the paperwork that Regent & Associates had dropped the case!!!!  They had to pay our Attorney's fees!!!!  Regent is a creep who should not be paid a penny!

I don't care for, or get into politics, but Democrats truly are for common working class people, Republicans are more geared towards businesses and wealthy people.  Just the facts.

This is a law firm that called on behalf of a debt from several years ago. I was willing to pay it and had even talked to the company the week before and set up payments. They told me that those payments were cancelled and if i didn't want a lawsuit that i would make new ones. since i was willing to pay off this debt, i agreed to $25 every two weeks. Low and behold, when they submitted the check to my bank it was for $50.00, not $25 like the written contract i have stated. They cost me a $29.00 NSF fee. I am currently demanding that they return the fee since they are in breech of contract. I am waiting till the end of Monday (first business day since this has happened) If the matter isn't resolved i plan to get a lawyer and go after THEM. If these people contact you, tell them that you are driving and will call them by X;XX. Then contact a lawyer, such as Weston & Associates for a free over the phone. Then call them back after you have information on what to do. I should have done this, but figured that i would just take care of the debt and get it over with. It has been nothing but a pain. So much for trying to do the right thing.

someone calls from this # to our unlisted land line.  They leave messages for someone who does not reside at this number.  Sometimes they leave a friendly message-such as " i have some extremely beneficial information for you". Other times they say they are calling to collect a debt.  I will not and do not call them back as they have the wrong #. One time I actually answered the call and told them they had the wrong #, but they continue to call weekly.

I read some of the postings here and some other forums about collection attorneys like this b*****d Regent. Based on what I read I tried to avoid this law firm, demanded documents, which they provided (by the way I talked to a judge and he told me that they only need to provide in the first 30 days and if you have ever made a payment the debt is considered valid) and then sued me, got a judgment against me and then put a lien on my account. I should have never listened to any of you guys on this forum and settled for 50% and be done with. Now I am paying 100% plus court cost and this b*****d's attorney fees and dont have access to my bank account and a judgment against my public records. Thanks to all the posters on this forum who ended up costing me a lot. Regent screwed me and you all screwed me by posting ideas like dont pay your debt and ask for this document and that and get one of these other attorneys to file against Regent, now I owe Regent, the court and my own attorney.

For starters, you don't seek advice from the kind of cowboy litigator who spams consumer forums. Pfeffer seems to perpetually have a website "in development". If you really want a crack consumer lawyers near you they are not hard to find. Their leading marketing engine is NACA.

But really you don't need a pinstriper with a profit motive holding your hand to dispute debt claims. You can write and send the same simple letters he will for the cost of your time and USPS Certified fees. The need to dispute is key, to best protect your rights and assets. Your first response to these rude and lawbreaking collectors is not "How do I pay", but "Prove I owe"! In general the more hostile the tactics, the less proof of claim the collector has.

Learn how to exercise your FDCPA rights as an alleged debtor at FTC-dot-gov.

I received a voice message today and was told "we have several options to persue about a civil litigation case that you caused".  I was instructed to call them back today by 7pm Central standard time so they could determine the best course of action going forward with this civil case.

Dear Mr. Pfeffer

I have been in contact with the Law Offices of Regents and Associates because I want to settle my debt. When I came to an agreement with them I asked them to provide the agreement in writing through fax. At that point the woman demanded that I first give her my bank account information and then she would send the fax. I repeatedly told her I was uncomfortable with this and she threatened that I only had five more minutes to make up my mind or they were going to file a lawsuit. At this point I realized how inconsistent and untrustworthy the company is. I was willing and able to pay what I owed but now I am weary of giving anything to these people. What should I do?

Sincerely,

Sandra

The Fair Debt Collection Act (FDCPA) was put into place To give people legal rights when it comes to collection agencies and collection attorneys.  If this collection agency is calling you for a debt you owe or a debt that is not yours, they could be violating your rights.
If you are being contacted by this or any collection agency, get in contact with me, my name is Ryan Pfeffer and my company is FDCPA Compliance. The website is not up yet but my email is working. contact me asap so we can determine what rights these the bottom feeders have violated and take action.

The nuts from this number 877-530-1000 claim they are a attorney office truying to collect a debt. They chase the sick and injured, but do not give there FULL name. They continue to hid behind the LAW and threathen a civil lawsuit. I say bring it on. The Regents & associates have got a hold of someoen who will turn there SCAM office upside down. I tell everyone who receives a call from them. Tell them to bring the lawsuit on, and appera in court and represent yourself. Let them spend there on MONEY. I have tried to make contact with the IDIOTS and I say this IDIOTS who pry on the sick and injured. If I find out what partners are involved with this company of firm, they will find themselves into something that they not only not like, but will never go away.
