Received 9 calls in the last 8 days from the 4 diffrent numbers
877-597-0878
877-597-0879
877-597-0880
877-597-0882
Called each of them back and it is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
I got a recorded message and it asked at the end to enter "1" and then asked for the phone number to be placed on their do not call list.  I did with each of these numbers...one right after the other...and now waiting to see if it does any good.  If not, I'm thinking of calling them every day and requesting that they remove my number.  I guess I can be just annoying as they are.
Like one of the other posters, I donated to them when my niece was running for one of the fundraisers.

As I understand it, charities CAN call people on the Do Not Call list. I donated for someone at work and now these people call me repeatedly. I am not going to alienate my neighbors by soliciting for them. AND, unfortunately, a large percentage of  money donated goes to the telemarketing people and not to the charity.  my advice is to give locally and only to those that mean something special to you.

Caller ID or letting your answering machine is a blessing. Stiil very annoying!

I have recently gotten calls from the same number. This charity fund or whatever (what I've read down the list) is doing too much calling in any hours of the day, and not leaving any messages or someone in the other end of the line... That's why I rely on local charity and/or phone numbers ( I know are LEGIT) instead of these scammers.

Have received numerous phone calls from the Leukemia-Lymphoma Society --- at least once per day and often multiple times within one day...   All appear to begin with (877) 597-08XX.  Last week wrote letter, certified and return receipt requested, demanding that I be removed from their calling list and/or robo call database.  Additionally, informed them that if they did not do so and continued calling, that would be considered harassment and the appropriate authorities would be notified.    Gave them 72 hours from receipt of letter to do so.   At this point, after the 72 hours, have received 2 calls.  Am logging day/time information and will report to authorities as well as pursue all legal action available.

I have had it with these people.  I gave a donation a couple years ago in memory of a dear friend.
They will never, ever, again receive a donation either in the form of cash or goods from me.

they don't say anything at first because the numbers are computerized so they don't have to pick up until the computer tells them someone is on the line. So annoying. just don't answer.

There was a guy, years ago, who was on either Dateline or 60 Minutes, who researched this, and it was before the national DNC list.  I thought that he had a list of several steps that should be followed in what a person tells the telemarketer to get them to stop--the first of which was to tell the telemarketer (TM) to "please put me on your Do Not Call list."  The TMs are supposed to know what this is.  As I recall, he kept track of how many times the same TM called him after he had requested DNC, and was able to take them to court--it may have been small claims court--and a dollar value/damages was attached to each time.  I thought that the story was that he was able to have the TM company pay him something like $500 for each time they called him after he requested DNC.  If this is the case, and I would call your Attorneys General office (I would think they would know), it means that you might want to request DNC of the TM, then record on your calendar, dates and times, and the person you spoke with, for future reference.  I thought that the procedure was something like this:

1 - Please put me on your Do Not Call list.
2 - Please send me a copy of your Do Not Call Policy.
3 - Please send me verification that you have done this.

There were four steps in this, but I do not recall the other/4th step.

Of course, this would mean that you would need to give them your name and address, which they may not already have, and which means that you are potentially giving them more information with which to harrass you.

I try to be civil, and get the name of the company, the person who called me, and a return phone number or extension number, "in case we get cut off" or "in case I change my mind about a contribution," and want to call them back.  I record this on my calendar or someplace else, for future use, in case I need it.  This also should tell them that they may be held accountable--yes, I know that they can give a false name, etc., but it is at least something.

I also try to remember to ask them where they are physically located, i.e. where they are physically speaking to me from--I asked this of a phone company (I think it was Qwest) customer service rept. I had to call a few years ago, and was surprised when she told me that she was not authorized to give me that information.

I believe that the phrase a person has to use is, "Please put me on your Do Not Call list."  As far as I'm concerned, the national DNC is just another list, but it's a "list" of people that don't want to be called, and doesn't work.  Has anyone heard *anything* about any company's being prosecuted for violating it?  Are there any teeth in the regulations regarding this?

I thought that I had heard, years ago, that a collection agency, e.g., is allowed to call you once a day, and that anything beyond that is considered harrassment--it's possible that this applies also to any telemarketing company.  Now that I've remembered this, and I know the number(s) of the LLS, I think when they call and I see them on the CID, I'll just pick up the phone and immediately hang it up.  Sounds rude, but they are rude to call continually and not leave a message.

Also, I got a call from the LLS; didn't answer it, and 3 minutes later, I got a call from the Breast Cancer Society, which is # 877 202 5429.  This time, I answered and got into enough of an annoying conversation with several people, that I searched that number, and got on to this site.  Both phone numbers said "Toll free number" on our CID.

lease join my counterinsurgency: when i get these kinds of calls i immediately and honestly inform them that i am not interested but i know they'll keep going anyway.  So i tell them it is my intention to keep them on the phone for as long as possible, wasting as much of their time as possible, and buying absolutely nothing.  Often they hang up immediately.  other times they volunteer to to add me to their dnc list.  Sometimes, belive it or not, they keep obn talking.  When this happens i typically put the phone down near the TV so they can hear the news.  Sometimes i say something ocassionally to keep em going.  My record so far is about 20 mins.  I've come to love doing this and take pride in thinking that i'm stopping/delaying them from wasting someone eslse's time.  Great fun!

Receive many calls from this number almost every day between 5:00 and 6:00 pm. Have a caller ID so don't answer if I don't know number. These calls come during the week at this time and on weekends at different times. It is very annoying.

As I understand it, the NO CALL LIST has exemptions:  charities AND political solicitations.
I called to speak to these inconsiderate idiots and was told it was the Leukemia and Lymphoma Foundation (or association).  I'm terminally ill and do not want to be bothered by thoughtless beggars, and want to be left alone to spend my final time ON MY TERMS, not theirs.

These people call all day long non-stop.  I found out that when people are rude to them they have a way of harassing you back.  They will put you on auto dialer and just keep the calls coming non-stop.

The sad part of this I just don't answer and they don't stop calling. When the answering machine picks up they hang up and call back again and again.

What can a person do to stop these maggots?

I am getting many, many calls from the same numbers as Jeff in MD above. We have donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in the past so they are not constrained from calling even though I am on the Do Not Call Registry. However, if you go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society website, there is an option on their "Contact Us" page for communication preferences and you may have your number removed from their telemarketing list. I'll stop back and let you know if that actually works.
