Received a phone call from a company named Global IP, no doubt a knock off of the Global Tech firm discussed previously.
| John 2012-01-13 22:20:50 Unknown |
Scam, trying to get you to connect to them by telling you your computer is infected. They claim to be global tech services. Hang up, do not connect to them over the internet. i called the real company in IA and they are aware of this happening and are trying to get it stopped.

Just had a very interesting call. There was no number given but sounds very similar to above comments. A lady with a very strong asian accent rang to say she was URGENTLY responding to the virus reported from this computer and in her very fast, long spiel she said would help me fix the malware and save windows (?) I asked where she was calling from and she said Australia. I said I meant which company was she calling from at this point she went quiet and I could hear pages being turned whilst she muttered company. It made me giggle and as I was doing so a male voice came on and asked me why I was laughing. I told him and he apologised and said she had only started that day. He was about to continue but I asked him which company it was and he said it was an internet company. When pushed further he said Global Technologies I asked him which country he was in and he said NEW YORK. I couldn't help but laugh again and sadly this time he put the phone down. Shame I was enjoying the call.

Caller with Indian accent called at 7:30 PM and said we had an "on-line" infection and that our computer would have many issues. Wanted to do an off line check up. Call seemed suspicious. He said he was from Global Tech- an Internet Security Service. We said we were busy and took the information. He said his name was Mark Vila. Caller ID said NAME NOT FOUND with a number of 208-099-7526. He said we could call back at 877-623-9180 to get the service. We have subsequently blocked his call.

My sister received a phone call from a man who said his name was Kevin Williams. He told my sister that he worked for the technical support department and that they see that her computer has caught a virus. My sister is ADDHD. She has received over three calls from this company. Each time she tells them that she will have to take down the name and number and me call them. I tell her that they cannot know if you have a virus on your computer unless they have some how hacked your computer. He wants to know the make and model of computer. I told her next time they ask, that if they can see that she has a virus that they should also be able to see the make and model of computer that she has.

Same Story here. Some guy named Max Taylor from a company called "Global Tech" called my house stating that our computer was sending viruses out and that they could provide a free service to help us. He gave me my address and asked if it was correct, but when I told him that I was not going to discuss my personal information, he started speaking quickly, saying, "I already have your information here...your zip code is..." He then continued to ramble...I told him that I wasn't comfortable with the call and would like a name and phone number for his company so that I could call back. He quickly tried to transfer me to a manager. After I made it clear that that was not what I requested, he gave me this phone number. I had no intention of calling back, but I decided to check the number online and wasn't surprised to find these similar accounts.

I just got this call at 9:45pm, while my kids were just getting to bed. Typically I wouldn't answer a call that I don't recognize (Caller ID) but since my kids were trying to sleep I answered it expecting to let who ever was on the other end have it!!! When I started to get angry, the guy on the other end told me that he had noticed unauthorized activity accessing my computer coming from overseas. He needed me to access it right away to stop this activity from hacking completely into my computer.
Curious to see where this was going and having no intentions of buying or giving any personal info, I went to my computer and he walked me through the steps to see all the yellow warnings and red errors that affected my computer and made it a point to tell me NOT TO OPEN THE FILES. He then walked me through a series of steps to access a website where I was to enter a 6-digit code, and explained to me NOT TO TELL ANYONE OF THIS SUPER SECRET CODE. At this point I asked him, out of the 100's of million's of computers how was it that he pinpointed my computer? He explained that the MS operating system I'm using notified the server because of the many viruses it was sending out. And using my IP address they were able to find my name, address and phone number. He then told me that he was going to transfer me to his technicians who will remove any and all viruses. It as at this point I asked him for his name, Max Vincent, number 877-623-9180 and company name Global Tech, which he gladly gave me. He said if I wanted to verify the validity of his company for me to call back, but not to wait. He made it sound like my computer was going to explode any second if I didn?t have someone look at it right away. He was very anxious for me to get started on the fix. Eventually he told me the cost would run around $70-$140 depending on the amount of time it would take. I told him I'll have to think about it and listened to him explain another round of urgency. I told Max that I would chance my luck. I was surprised that he let me off that easily, I figured he would hard sell me with some threat that this computer virus would eventually infect my family health. Of course it's a scam, you can tell from the accent of the caller.

You have a problem with your computer

Decided to play along, and he took me to the system log file sand asked for red and yellow messages, so I asked him how far back, I told him they pretty much go back to the beginning of time (which blew his little indian mind and script). So he starts asking me what the red ones are and I picked the safest ones (errors form Microsoft customer experience). All of a sudden a different Indian voice is on there, followed by some quiet sqabbling.
Eventually I tell them they gig is up and I've now wasted 10 minutes of their time and told them to enjoy the squalor that is their scam-infested world. They hung up.
If they call back, I'll tell them I only have ipads, and see how their script accomodates that.

heavy Indian accent, same situation as above "many red errors" etc, My computer was already on, he ("Shane".. yea right) asked me to open some files, I immediately shut it all down when he mentioned a "one-time" fee of $145 seconds later... When I asked where he was calling from, I couldn't even understand him. Something about security online. Very very shady... glad a told him I would call back and got his number (this one, obvio-po) .. which I will not be calling back.

Just received the call from "Sandy". Sounded Indian. Same song and dance. Told him I was skeptical and asked for a number to call him back. Googled the phone number and found this site. The phone number did not show up on caller ID.
If something doesn't feel right, don't fall for it.

I also live in Northern CA and I just received a call. Thanks to everyone for posting this information. I had the same experience. A man with a heavy Indian accent had my husband's name and told me I had downloaded a virus, said my IP address was blah, blah, blah...."and you live in California right?" I didn't answer that question and just started asking him questions. He told me his name was Jack. I asked for his last name and after a long pause he said "Willis". I asked "Willis?" He said "No, Williams." I asked for the company name that he was with and he said it was Global Tech. I asked for a number to call him back and he gave me 877-623-9183. It just said "Out of Area" on my caller ID.

I received this same phone call last night insisting that I have a virus in my computer. I told him I was just on my computer and it was running fine. He stated this virus is running rampet and that it needed to be fixed immediately. First of all, the lady who was on the other end couldn't hardly speak English. I asked her to get someone who can speak better English so I could understand what they were asking. A gentleman got on the phone and they sounded panicky!! Again I told him I was just on my computer without incident. I asked for a name and number so I could call him back. He was foreign too. Possibly, Indian, or Iranian. He used the name "Charles Lewis" (very American) and gave me this number 877-623-9180. I told him I'd have my husband call him tomorrow. We didn't. I realized this to be a scam!!!!!!!

just got a call from "global tech". Same story as the others... heavily accented, spouting technobabble. I went along with it to see where he would go and it was clear that they wanted access to my computer. What a creepy company!

I got a call from this number barely could understand the dude. It is a shame that some people try and scam people or scare them into thinking they need their help or protection. Rip offs are what ruin the economy! Especially when it comes to being paranoid about computer virus problems. Just block the numbers please.

Bet they didn't know just guessing, everybody has some kind of problem. I do not think this is legit.

Got a similiar call yesterday evening at 11:30pm. The guy called" Kevin William" stated the same problems with my computer and asked me to call them back when I said it was too later in the night. The guy is indeed with a heavy accent. He said he was from Globetech and left the number 877-6239-180 for calling back.

Got a call on 9/22/11. Very persistent. Said it was urgent. I had many viruses in my computer. I tried to put them off--they got rude. Said it was VERY important I take care of it right then. Gave me his name as Edward Collins, agent ID 1259. I could hear other callers in the background, so it sounded like a large call center. When I told them NO and hung up, he called right back. Gave me a company name of Global Tech Services. http://www.globaltechservices.com There is a website. Said I should check it out and they'd call me back tomorrow. Found some very interesting info on the web--phone number also for login4speed.

Out of the blue I got a call, whom they identified themselves "Global Tech". Again, Same old story: like, walk you through your computer, find the error and warnings in file management, and could provide a fix for $70 to $140. When I said I couldn't afford, the heavy accent guy just hung up on me!
To identify the characterictics of this scam:
1. Global Tech
2. Offer a fix to your "infected" computer.
3. Heavy accent
4. 1-877-623-9180
Good luck...
