I got a call from a Valerie Thompson saying that they were suppose to serve papers and sue me. She is trying to sue and collect a debt from 6 years ago. She stated that it was for $50 but with interest it has gone up to $380, but I could settle for $180. I asked her the type of debt and she would not say, only that it is being filed as a hot check. I told her that I would contact an attorney to see what rights I have because of the Statue of limitations in my state.
Oral Contract: 3 years
Written Contract: 5 years
Promissory Note: 6 years
Open-Ended Accounts: 3 years
So this is 6 years later and I am sure they have no power to do anything. She said she was calling from the Office of Progressive. I think I lost a connection while talking to her, so I called back, a guy answered the phone and told me that she was not in the office. Weird! Anyone familiar with this type of thing? Any advice?
