If you read the posts prior to yours, you can see that it's most definitely a scam.  Please do report your caller to the FTC, FBI and your state's Attorney General.

Over a period of about a week I have received 8 calls.  I just received 5 calls in a row that I didn't answer and received a message similar to the calls above with threatening pending court appearance on a possible litigation matter.  The call was not for me but they still keep calling looking for someone else.  They also notified a friend of a friend to get info. Someone that does not even know the person they are looking for.  The name the caller used is Steve McKinley, Asset Verification Services, and the call back number is 877-630-6495.  Too bad they don't work that hard at a real job!

Omg, I received a messages from a Tim Baush and messages from family member that a man is calling trying to get a social security and that he was trying to give me a courtesy call prior to submitting case and even left them with a file # with the 877-630-6402 ext 106 Mr. Gardino he is also leaving 1-877-630-6409. He told my sibling that he will come after me even if it takes for him to leave town since they told him I left the state. Please be careful.

I got the same call from a gentleman by the name of Alan Cross.  However, the phone number he used is 877 937 0516.  He went ahead and called several of my family members claiming he needed to know my address and Social Security Number.  Left a case number and everything...he was very believable...had some threats as well implying federal issues....but it is definitely a scam!

One more point, I agree with the person above that anyone who hires a service processor to initiate a summons and complaint does not give you notice that they intend to do so unless you call them first - they just do it.  If they tried to serve a summons, you would have them nailed on some serious FDCPA violations.  It would end up costing them a lot of money to defend themselves and pay the judgement award.

I have received the same message as everyone above.  Let me make one thing clear:  This company is violating several FDCPA (Fair Debt Collection Protection Act) provisions.  To begin with, they can't initiate collection action without first giving you the opportunity to request proper validation.

Furthermore, everyone is entitled to request no phone communication and that all communication be conducted in writing via mail.  I just tried to call them and get their mailing address in order to send notice to stop the phone calls and they wouldn't give it to me.

The best thing you can do is ignore the calls and they'll likely eventually go away.  The worst thing you can do is get on the line with one of the reps and allow him to get you to talk.  These guys are trained and get paid to extract information and even coerce payment.

Which brings up another point.  Without having first been sent a proper dunning notice, you have no idea in the world if the collection is related to you or if the debt is valid or even if the entity trying to collect is bona fide.

If you feel an unavoidable need to address this, call them and demand that they give you their address so you can have an attorney verify that they are what they say they are.  But the fact is it's best just ignore them.  If they try to serve you with anything or initiate any kind of collection process, you have them trapped in some serious FDCPA violations.  The Federal Court takes these very seriously.

It is a scam. I'm an attorney and while I may not be well versed in the areas of consumer protection laws, I do know some basic things regarding service of process. Nobody but nobody gives the defendant in litigation a "courtesy call" to let them know they will be served. That's just dumb. They are clever, though. They don't rise to the point of actually threatening litigation. The law here reads "Debt collectors also may not state that:
you will be arrested if you do not pay your debt
they will seize, garnish, attach, or sell your property or wages, unless the collection agency or creditor intends to do so, and it is legal to do so
actions, such as a lawsuit, will be taken against you, when such action legally may not be taken, or when they do not intend to take such action".
No, they just claim to be someone who represents a party that might take legal action. I personally think they cross the line. Two things: If they call from an "Unknown" number, they are obviously hiding something. If you can't find the company via a Google search in this day and age, that's probably because they don't really exist.

Just received a call from a man identifying himself as James Kelly from Asset Verification Services. He advised of a pending litigation claim/demand notice for my son, or it could possibly be my ex-husband since they share the same name. He advised I could call the originator of the claim at (877) 937-0284 for more information but that might result in further verification and action. He does sound very serious and had me worried since my son is in the Army and stationed far away from me. However, I just spoke to my son last week. He is doing well and possibly being promoted. I don't think he could maintain his security clearance if he has a legitimat detrimental legal claim. I'm confident this is a scam. I'm not sure how they got me and my son's name but appreciate everyone posting their experiences here, which is why I'm doing the same.

Do not be alarmed - they're totally scamming, trying to get money out of someone/anyone.  Just do NOT answer numbers you don't know, and above all, DON'T fall for their double-talk!  Good grief, what CNaylor reports as the actual message doesn't even make SENSE!  They just want to scare people into giving them money.

I am so glad I did a reverse look up for this number 877-630-6402 and found these posts. Something needs to be done about these people. At first I thought I had done something really wrong. So the following is the actual message Mr. Allan Cross left on my phone. After reading these posts I deleted it. Thank you all!!

Hi this message is actually intended ... to reach a XXXX my name is Mr. Allan Cross and I'm giving you a second to call me back. I'm calling with asset verification services ... again trying to confirm that I do have the correct address and place of employment on file for you as I did state in my prior message this documentation is just to confirm your name and social security number again this call is for XXXX ... please be advised that I still have this request to have you sign and respond to the required demand notice for federal law which is now being delivered to the government sponsored service in your local county since I have not heard any different from you I'll be issuing this within the next 24 hours you still have the opportunity in that time to contact the issuing and party with any questions their number again is (877) 630-6402 otherwise ... again XXXX failure on your part to contact the issuing party will force delivery of these documents and may result in termination pursuant to all applicable state and federal laws you now have been officially notified for the final time.

Debt Collector
This claim starts with a guy named Tim Boss, aka Travis Cohen, aka Tony, aka Todd Gullo. He claims to be a corrier that does not have a company name. He is trying to serve me with legal notice of a claim and he will be at my place of business or home. When you call the number Tony from above will answer and put you on hold for Todd Gullo from above. They will make a deal and negotiate the debt for the legal staff. They do not identify that they are a debt collector trying to collect a debt but he will negotiate it. They sound very good except all of the names from above are the same guy. I have all the voice recordings. They will give you phone number of the claimant 877-630-6402,6408,6409 ex 110. all of which go back to the guys from above. Today I got a call from Jeff Perkins of MSN in referance to this claim.
If these guys are debt collectors they are making missleading statements. I will be turning all this info over to a lawyer.

I actually had someone named Alan Cross call a separate number on my cell account, and leave a message concerning serving something on an ex-wife who I had not spoken to for over 30 years!  These guys are idiots, and from what I've read so far, incompetent.

I just received a call from "Alan Cross" today, saying that he will be at my house tomorrow to serve a claim placed on me by a party. He gave me the telephone number of the claimant's office (877-630-6402), which I don't intend to call. I looked up the number online and found this message board.

Long serious message from a gentleman insinuating a claim for a serious matter.  Problem with this long message is it's the wrong number.  He said a claim has been put on his desk and that now he has to "handle" it.
