Just got a text at 9pm tonight that reads "This is a message from Peninsula Bank, your ATM card has been suspended. To reactivate call urgent at 877-650-2858 - I didn't call or text back - I don't even bank with them, sounds like a scam to me.

same thing just happened to me.

My husband and I both got that text message today at 5:11pm.  I had just used my card! We don't bank with Peninsula Bank either. Anyone know what the angle on this is?

I got this txt at 8:24 PM Aug 31st. Didn't call back, called my girlfriend and found she had gotten the same thing.

what these guys do is use xml-based IVR platforms to lure people into keying in information. said information is usually written to plain-text logs(!), and then dumped into a database/listing for account numbers, which these scammers then use for fraudulent purposes.

Called Peninsula Bank this morning and the lady who answered the phone knew all about the text messages and asked if I had Sprint, which I do.  She said it was a breach on Sprint's end allowing the numbers to "get out" and have messages sent to them.  She said the message is definitely fraudulent and not to call or give any information.  I then called Sprint wondering how this happened, and although the very nice person on the other end could not answer how or what happened, only that it wasn't a "short key"?  

She told me to forward the text to: abuse@messaging.sprintpcs.com

and they will agressively investigate (who knows if they will).  I figure if they get bombarded with e-mails, maybe they'll try figure it out.

it is not associated with a business
Yellowpages.com phone number search came up empty for a business
Info came up from a White Pages search on phone number.  Means it is assigned to a person not a business.
