got a call saying that they have a case with me and to call them and that they are attorneys but won't bite my head off.

Subject identified as Matthew Lavin who pretends to be a Private Investigator, his name has been reported to the Massachusetts State Police Department and the office of Attorney General of Massachusetts office of consumer affairs in regards to his illicit activities, mal practice and harassing phone calls.

The call actually came from telephone number 716-206-0094 (which is a Buffalo, NY, Sprint Telecom number) on my caller id. The voicemail said it was a man named Richard from C.A.R. and Associates. He knew my full name and kept using it throughout the message. He said he was calling about my retainer, and gave me a reference claim number (whatever that is. He also said "they" sent me a letter 2 1/2 weeks ago regarding "the matter". He gave me the 1-877-651-0148 number and said he was at ext 507. He also said, kind of forcefully, that my "window of opportunity" was very small right now and to call him back THAT NIGHT. It must be a scam, because I never received a letter from them, and wouldn't have any sort of case against me without my knowledge. What I really want to know is, how do these people get our numbers?? This is my cell phone! It seems like I get these scam type calls at least once every couple or so months!

This appears just to be another collection agency. They called me about an old credit card that I had (which is true) and are just hounding me for money.

Some lady called and left a message saying this was a fraud investigation and said she was from CAR & associates and told me to call back regarding case no. XXXXXX.  She said to call her back, she was at extention 320, but didn't actually give a number to call.  Then she said Good Luck and hung up.  Shortly after I got that VM, someone called and asked for the fax number, which I gave her.  I then got a fax from a Chase Litigation Services (Dan Glaser, Atty at Law) from (753-485-9100). Cover sheet said it was employment verification.  Second page said it was for a Court Ordered Writ of Garnishment Approval and it was a form to fill out with my name asking for my current info, salary info and to fax back to their garnishment department.  The "Civil claims Docket number wasn't even a valid docket number.  This clearly doesn't conform to Fair practices debt collection law.  I don't even know why they want me?  They dont even tell me what kind of debt they think I owe?

Please let everyone know about these people and that they go after the wrong folks.

Internet searches can give out a ton of data on folks, which can be used against them, without due cause.

The lady said she could not give me any information.  She had to speak with H.

I told her that I have Power of Attorney for H.  So she could speak with me.  She said I had to fax to her a copy of the complete P-A Document.

I told her that I had just Googled H's + Last name, and that there are a ton of them out there.

Then, I asked that she tell me H's last four digits of her Social Security Number.  She had to leave the phone to get permission to do that

She came back and said H's last four digitals were xxxx, which were not my H's SS#.

She still gave me her fax #, and told me to fax the PA to her. @ 716-651-0248

I told her that I would not, since the last four digitals didn't belong to my H.

Message on Answering machine:
Left message for my daughter, who lives out of state.  Said a law-suit had been filed against her.  But if she called immediately it could be settled shortly.

I called their 877-651-0148 and a recording said it was C.A.R and Assoc. and the menu for law-suits and such to press.

Called my cell phone trying to get a hold of my sister thru me. Asked if I could give him a number to reach her. I said NO and insisted on taking a message. Said his name was James and that he needed to ask my sister a few painless questions regaurding legal matters!? My sister was the one who looked up the phone number and found out it was a scam. So don't be fooled. Now I'm worried why and how they got my cell phone number!

Call the consumer protectio division of the attorney general of massachusetts, also call the state police and ask the to tap the phone call so they know who is calling you.
This individual is not a private investigator what so ever, sneaks arround your personal life and calls indiscriminately to all related information available to him.

claims to be with attorney Daniel Glasser, Glaser o Blasser, Blaser?  A Richard Arnie or Ernie called called the # back and they were intent on telling me a suit had been filed  against me I asked for docket info and was told i wasn't being sued but a suit was filed Dumb A** didn't understand that suit implies legal remedy.  He got so upset with me he hung up on me  especially when i asked about an address and real phone number to call.  did not mirandize etc.  Report them to the FTC
