My parents have received numerous phone calls looking for my husband threatening lawsuit and giving a case number. When he called to try and find out information they said he owed money on a pay day loan.  We asked for documented proof and they said they would not give us any.  My husband asked to update their information for contact so that they would stop calling my parents and they said they didn't want to do that.  They didn't even want his new address for the record.  They just told him that they would see him in court. They tried to call him back after telling him that he owes 1160.00 and offered a settlement TODAY only of $550.00 but I said NO WAY!!  We were already scammed out of $457.00 in February for the same type of scare tactic of Jail and Check Fraud charges and stuff. So frustrating!! How do you even report this. They are harassing us.  Aside from changing our phone numbers!!!

Since this group is based in Charlotte the proper local jurisdiction to file police reports would be the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department
http://charmeck.org/city/charlotte/CMPD/Pages/default.aspx

You can make a report by telephone - If calling outside the Mecklenburg County, the Non-Emergency Crime Reporting: 704-336-7600

I love this idea. Begin to record the conversations and lets begin a youtube channel or something so that this can finally come to an end. There's power in numbers!! All the complaints to FTC, BBB etc do not seem effective as of yet so lets take matters into our own hands!!

Yes got the same call and I believe they switch numbers but keep calling with the same tactics.  I live in Missouri. How can I file a complaint against them? Also, how can we block them from calling?  This is not right and should not be allowed. They are violating laws on collections of debt and creating bogus debt scenarios.

For at least the last year, an illegal group of debt collectors have been terrorizing consumers, their family, friends, and employees threatening to arrest the individual of an unpaid loan or other debt (their generally don't even owe). Be aware debt is a civil matter, not a criminal matter, and you can't be arrested. They threaten a warrant if the victim does not pay a sum of money by the credit card over the phone.

Some of the people they are calling do not owe a debt.  Others they are calling have already settled their debt with the organization who owns the accounts. Even if you do owe a debt, do not be deceived by the actions of this group.  Many of the accounts they are attempting to collect they do not own.  In other words, if you pay these people, that is not going to clear your debt with its rightful owner.

Although when pressed the callers give the victim an address in Columbia South Carolina (usually a vacant lot) or Atlanta GA (often a parking lot near the bus station). They are actually out of the Charlotte North Carolina area. The scammers are using the following business names (and there are many others, and they seem to create new ones daily).  They will normally answer the call back number as ?Investigations?

Reynolds, Hill, and Associates
Berkley and Associates
Kaufmann and Associates
Sanderson Blaine & Associates
Blaine and Associates
McKenzie Reid Associates
Kennedy, Kline, & Associates
Nationwide Asset and Recovery
Piedmont Investigations and Procurement
Raffino, Garrison, & McCoy
Greenman, Schwartz & Associates
McCoy Law Group
Salem Associates
Reynolds and Associates

Here is a set of links to a variety of threads on this forum that document this group and its behavior. They include the experiences of victims as well as a former employee or two that quit within a week of finding out exactly what was going on. They also include responses from consumer advocates and people who are really criminal justice professionals advising victims of what to do

Has left multiple messages stating they're looking for a defendant for a legal case #. When I called back (recording on their phone system stated it was a recorded line), and asked the name of their "legal firm," the female who answered the phone hung up on me. I called back 7 times, got 2 different women (both hung up on me), before I was finally told they were with "Graham Associates." I told them that they were reaching a wrong number/I didn't know the male defendant they were trying to reach, and that I would sue them for harassment if they called again. I told them that I was also recording them just like they were recording me. The "female canine" told me "I don't like to be recorded," and hung up on me. They're supposedly recording callers, but THEY don't like to be recorded? I bet they don't, because then it can be used in court, against them.

I felt the same way when I read what "iphone" posted.  Like he was saying "yeah some of us probably DO owe and are trying to get out of paying."  He probably does have connection to the company that is calling all of us over and over again.  They have to know that people are putting things against their number because they are a scam. We know they are full of sh*t and they know they are full of sh*t.  They are trying to get money from hard working people while they sit there and lie, be rude, bug the living sh*t out of people for NO good reason.  Their little scams aren't working they have to do something to get a sucker and it's not here!

Call blocker might be your best bet.  Also don't pick up on numbers you don't recognize.  There's no real way to stop the calls from being initiated.   If you know their address you could send them a cease and desist request.  No clear if they would pay any attention to it.

See if your employer can install a call blocker.  If you have a blocker, keep on blocking.  Set your ring-tone down to silent mode.

Oh my goodness! I have asked them to stop calling numerous times but they just keep calling! I told them I do not owe anyone anything. I own everything I have. They told me I had taken out a $120,000 loan for a 2012 BMW 750Li. Umm... excuse me, how do they know what I drive? Its kind of scary. I told them I bought the car in cash 2 years ago, so how is it that I owe $1,650 (which would have been the last note on the loan) on the car loan? Besides if I really owed on the car, it would have already been repoed. But they insist I owe $1,650 and if I refuse to pay it, they will sent  warrant out for my arrest. I told the lady I will not pay on a loan I do not owe. She hung up on me after that. Today, another lady calls from the same number to tell me there is a warrant out for my arrest, I told her I will be waiting for law enforcement with my attorney on site. I asked her, her name and who she is representing and she told me she can not disclose her name and she is representing Payday loans. I'm like REALLY? I have never taken out a loan through Payday. She yells, "Well you did!" I told her not to have an attitude with me and she told me she can have an attitude if she wants to. I ask her to provide some more information about me to make sure she has the right person, so she tells me the last four digits of my SSN, some case number, and the color of the BMW I drive. She was correct on my SSN and the color of my car. I tell her I am reporting them. She yells at me telling me they are not a scam and begins asking me why everyone thinks they are scammers. I tell her to ask herself and her boss that question. Then I ask to speak to her supervisor, she puts me on hold for abut 10min. Then some lady picks up introducing herself as, Sally Richardson, Investigative Services management. I tell her how I did not take out the $120,000 loan in 2012 because I own everything I have by buying everything in cash and I do not owe the 1600 dollars they accusing me of owing. She gets mad and begins yelling at me telling me yes I do owe it and I will pay it or they will arrest me and pick up my car. I told her to come on and arrest me but she cannot have my BMW because I have the title to prove I own it. She tells me my title must me a fake. Now I am aggravated. I tell her to go find a man and f*** him or something because obviously she has nothing else better to do. Then she just sits in the phone breathing. By this time, my husband walks into the room, wondering who I have been speaking to for the past half hour, he takes the phone, and hangs up on her. She calls back and he answers, introducing himself as "Judge Kinney's residence", she hangs up immediately. He then reports the number to the Better Business Bureau. Plus, I recorded my entire convo with them. I really hope they do not call again. They have been bugging me for weeks now and I am sick of it. The question is how do the know the last four digits of my social? How do they know exactly what I drive? I kind if feel violated. WE NEED TO COME TOGETHER AND END THIS BY FIGHTING BACK. Obviously people are falling for it, otherwise, they would not still be in business. I feel bad for those who fall for scammers like this..

Message left stating they were trying to contact a defendant regarding a case number. When I called back to state they were calling the wrong number (person's name is an unknown), got a voice mail. Left them my # and ordered them to stop calling me or I'd pursue legal action. (In my state it's illegal to robot-call, or call after you've been told not to call. Naturally, I recorded the call and stated I was recording the call.)

I meant doesn't live *here* darn autocorrect. Not hear.
...And the best thing to do is to put your phone on a do not call list. You can list your number on the state and national do not call list. The National Do Not Call List number for the U.S. is : 1-888-382-1222. Protect yourself. Once you list your number onto the do not call list, it makes it illegal to receive phone calls from telemarketers and scammers. It's kind of like a violation of a restraining order.

A recorder leaves a message on the answering machine with a case number asking for us to locate a person I know. I call them back to tell them that person does not live hear and for them to stop calling. She told me, by law, they can continue calling because the person they are looking for used us as a reference and the judge will possibly subpoena us to court because of the outstanding debt the person owes, totaling $1,500. This was the second time I have told them not to call here. They have called again today, so I called them back, asking who they were, but the lady hung up on me after the question. This is when it occurred to me that this is a scam. Besides, the person told me they do not owe $1,500 to anyone. They did not take out a $1,500 loan, ever. I've already reported the number to the local Better Business Bureau. They told me to ignore the call if they call again and by law, those guys were not suppose to call again after I asked them to stop calling. Tax season is the time of the year most scammers call us. Unfortunately, most people fall for it. It is sad. The worse part is, there is nothing we can do because most of the scammers are calling from another country. Therefore, whether or not it is illegal for them to scam us, we can do nothing. That's why they do it. They know we can do nothing. Please pay close attention to how much information you give out to these unknown callers. If you give them the right info, they will take everything you have, including your identity.
There are also scammers who call to tell you, you won money but first just have to pay â small fee before you can get your money.. A legit company will not call to tell you that you won money. They also will not ask you for any money. They will simply send you a letter, congrating you on your winnings with your check. Some people smh..

I have not received calls but my family members have been.  They call me frantic thinking I am some criminal.  One day I entertained these jerks and called the phone number my family had and provided a supposed case number.  The payday loan company they claimed deposited funds into my account in 2010 was one I had never heard of.  I politely told them that if it was legitimate I would definitely work with them but that I needed to pull old statements as the bank account they had has been closed for years.  I went to the bank and got my statements out of the archives and noticedc my account had already been closed by the date they claim the deposit was made.  I knew then it was definitely a scam.  I called these scammers back and they wouldn't return my calls.  I left a message and told them no deposits had been made and that I had plenty of proof if they wanted to try and take me to court.

Since then my family has continued to receive phone calls from the same phone number except different case numbers.  So, today I decided to have some fun and I called the same phone number back and was very polite and asked for their physical address because I was forwarding information to my attorney.  The woman got really upset and said she would not provide that information and asked if I was getting calls.  I said no, you guys won't call my phone but you call my family and that is harrassment so I now have my attorney involved.  Again, all I need is your physical address.  I told her that there are scams tied to her phone number and that all she had to do was Google or check out the news.  She then yelled at me and said "This is NOT a scam!"  I said, okay then provide your address and I will forward to my attorney.  She yelled at me again and said that I need to have my attorney call the phone number.  Before I could finish saying thank you, she hung up on me.  All the while she not once introduced herself.  I'm not stupid.  I have had payday loans in the past and you make payment arrangements through the actual payday loan company not these guys.  NEVER give them your money.

I just wish there was something I could do so they would leave my family alone...once again I have yet to receive a call from them...

I have received a few calls from this number. They also call with a 716 area code I believe. I received a voicemail from "Morgan Strong" with Investigative Services. And that warrants were being attached to my social security number, and she provided the last 4 of my social and a case number. They have called my mother and my brother with this same threat.
When you call back and ask for their company name, or who they are collecting for, they refuse to tell you and I have even had them hang up on me. I figure, if I truly owe them, and they really want their money that bad, they would be a little more pleasant and give the information asked for.
Be careful!!

These people have called me a few times. They call and it is a recording stating some ones name and it says press 2 if you do not know this person.  I press 2 and it connects me to someone I do not want to talk to so I hang up.  Well today they called and I did the same thing but now I'm irritated so I decide to call back. This is how the convo went. It is a recording first saying the convo will be recorded and to hang up if you do not want to be recorded.  (scammer)"investigations how may I help you?"  (me) "Who is this?"  (scammer) "Investigations" (me) "Ok I see I won't be getting a name, but why did you call me?" (s) "well what is your name sir and I can tell you why." (m) "I'm not giving you my name because the name that was asked for is not me." (s) "Well why didn't you just press 2 like everybody else?" (m) "Everytime you call I press 2 and I still get connected to you a***oles."  He hangs up so I call back and get the same guy. I didn't even get a chance to say anything so I know they have caller I.D. but right when he answered he says "Hey man, do something better with your time and quit calling here." and hung up on me right a way.  So I called back, phone picks up and hangs up, I called again and again they pick up and hang up. I call again and a lady answers and says "investigations" so I said "who keeps hanging up on me when I call?"  she said "I don't know sir but did you need something?"  I said "yeah, quit calling me with this scam s*** because I can search your phone number and see that it is just that."  she said "Well sorry if you believe it's a scam but you wont when they come arrest you."  and she hung up on me. I called back and she answered and I said "BI*** YOU DONT EVEN KNOW MY NAME" and hung up.  Anyways people THIS IS A SCAM  quit being so gullible and talk trash to them.  THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING TO YOU!!!!  matter of fact I'm still waiting to be arrested lol.  Call them back cuss them out let them know how crappy their life is for doing this job.  DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY IF THEY ASKE FOR IT. Even if they threaten you or say its going on your credit. DON'T BELIEVE IT.  have fun and call them back, you will feel better and maybe they will get tired of everyone calling THEM.

I received a recorded message, called back the number so I can advise them they have an incorrect number. I asked the woman the name of the company and she hung up. I called back, asked the same question and she did the same thing. So if this was a legitimate matter, the caller would provide official identification, if this matter involved a court case, the person involved would receive a notice from their respective court regarding the matter. Don't be scammed.

Maybe some of those posting here have a debt that they still owe & are trying to weasel out of paying that debt.  But in my case, the name they gave on the recording was that of a person that several dozen other debt collectors  & anonymous business callers called & asked about several dozen times,  but I had this phone number for over 5 years & some one else had it before me (& that person's mother or siblings called me a couple dozen times over a 2 year period until they finally figured out that I was not lying  that I didn't know who their son or brother was nor where he was at.  He might be dead, mentally ill or just didn't ever want to talk to his family again).

Either the person they kept asking four is a fake name that some scammers use.  Or, she once did have this number that I now have (& she is dead or on the "streets" or now uses another name). Or, she does or doesn't exist, but she originally gave someone the wrong area code or wrong phone number years back and now the only info any of these jerks that keep calling have on her is the very old information & they just are too lazy to investigate and find out where this person is now.  People do give out wrong numbers or fake numbers or change their phone number once or more times in their lifetime.  And sommetimes people die, drop out of society, went to jail, or even change their name (especially women who take their husband's last name.  But stop calling me!!!! I don't know this person.

One reason I think the caller from this 877 number is not legitimate or is a "trickster" is because the first recording says "press one if you do not know the whereabouts of this woman, etc" and the recorded message message left the next day stated that "Press 2 if you do not know this person, etc".  So, whether I press 1 or 2, they "got me", if I call back.  But I ain't going to answer this 877 number & ain't going to call them back.  If they want this woman, ___ ___, then they can do a bit of research or else give up calling my number.
