Debt Collector
I have first received a call from a group called Midwest number 877 763 6382 saying that I owed a payday from ST. Armand's group.. And I did take a loan out from them a couple of years ago. But I thought I payed it back.  So I set up a payment arrangement and paid on the spot then...and then the very next week same day got a call from STP  with the number 877 741 9243 for the exact same loan.   I couldn't remember who the other one was calling from at the time so I paid them as well and got another payment arrangement . When I got home and realized it was for the same company, I called both of them let them know the situation and both of the them said not to pay the other back get your money reversed because they had legal ownership of my acct.  I have not paid the balance because I was unsure.  I cancelled my card. I have asked both of them to provide me with documentation from St. Armand's saying that I owe this debt . They have failed to do so, so I am going to go to my bank and see if I can get my money back.

I received two calls from a Mike Harris.  He said they were called STP processing.  They said I had an outstanding loan with a company called Integrity Advance.  I did take a loan with this company but definitely have paid back what I originally borrowed. They are trying to get me for all of these interest fees.  He then said that I had to figure out that day what to do or I would have to settle it out of court and deal with the court costs.  I told him I needed to research this and would be back in touch in a couple days. He said that was fine obviously not having to be the same day.  I spoke today when he called my work AGAIN.  I told him that I spoke to an attorney and wanted proof of what I was being charged for.  He said he didn't have to because the company has already sent that proof to my address, which is totally not true.  Then he said if I wanted my attorney to call him he could and that my attorney should know that he has to get a judge ordered "motion of discovery" in order to get that paperwork.  Bottom line is at the end I got scared, I am stil going to see what I can do but I set up a payment plan with this a**hole.  Did I do the wrong thing? By the way the number I got was 877-741-9243.

Payday loans can offer quick and easy access to money for consumers who may be having temporary cash flow problems or are facing a financial emergency and need to borrow funds for a short length of time. Although these loans are convenient to obtain, consumers are strongly advised to carefully review the contract before they sign it to ensure that they fully understand their obligations as well as the fees charged for these short-term loans. Once a loan agreement is signed, the borrower becomes legally responsible to fulfill the obligations stated in the contract. It is also important that consumers are aware of the significant additional costs they can incur if they are unable to repay these loans when they are due.

Additional Complaint Information

According to BBB records, several consumer complaints allege STP & Associates' debt collectors misrepresent themselves as government agencies or law enforcement officers, often threatening consumers with legal action and/or incarceration if the alleged debt is not paid immediately. Individuals are often told the debt originates from a payday loan. Debt collectors with the company will not offer consumers identifying information such as the company's location or licensing/registration information, however.

Consumers should note that the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act requires debt collectors to identify themselves, as well as name the original creditor. Debt collectors must also provide verification of the debt if a consumer issues a written request within 30 days of receiving initial notice. The Act also prohibits collectors from engaging in the false misrepresentation of a debt's character, amount, or legal status.

A BBB investigation found STP & Associates was not actively registered with the Texas Secretary of State (SOS). BBB investigators found no record of STP & Associates in the state's database. State law requires debt collectors engaging in debt collection activities within Texas be bonded and registered with the SOS. Before paying any debt, verify the company contacting you is licensed to collect debts in your state. Beware of callers refusing to provide you with their identifying information or those who threaten you with legal action or arrest.
