Some idiots with Indian or Pakistani accents called my 84-year-old mother claiming she had a computer virus, but for $150 and letting them have control of her computer, they could fix the problem. They claimed to be from Tech Plaza and provide support for Microsoft though their heavily accented English was difficult to understand. Nice try boys?call again?and hope I don't answer the phone next time.

Got a call from them yesterday. Strangely enough, I did have a virus on my system. I was virus scanning to take care of it when they called. They said that I got an infection from the internet, that it automatically downloaded itself. They said they were Tech Plaza in Texas. The two I spoke to sounded Indian. Perhaps there is a Texas, India? HA HA
They never claimed to work for Microsoft. They made it sound like they are outsourced.

Just got a call from "Wilson" (With an Indian accent) stating serious threats were detected that could harm my computer.  I asked a number of times who he was with and I couldn't understand his reply.  He told me I needed to turn on my computer (it was already on), and I asked him for a number that I could call.  Just because he called me and told me I had problems, I was NOT going to allow him access to my computer.
He seemed reluctant to give me the number, but he gave me (and this is how he gave it to me) 1-877-7539-167.  When I called the number, a man with a thick Indian accent answered, saying Tech (I couldn't understand the rest), can I help you.  Whether this is a scam or not, I won't deal with them.

I received a call fro a man who identified himself as "Lawrence".  He said he was a Windows service provider and that my computer was showing several "error" or "warning" messages.  He had an Indian type of accent and said he was calling from Tech Plaza in Sugarland, Texas. He wanted me to immediately go to my computer so he could fix the problems.  I explained that I did not have my cellphone with me and that he should give me his phone number so I could call him back when I had it.  It sounded like he was trying to gain remote access to my computer.  I'll see if he calls back but it sounds suspicious.

I received a call from 877-753-9167.  Same info as everyone else. Guy named "Calvin" with a very thick Indian accent said my Windows 7 was compromised. He first said with a virus and I stated that I have  a lot of security on my computer--then he said it is not a virus it is a problem that will allow hackers to get into my computer.  This would have sounded crazy at once but I just had gotten the computer, it was brand new and I had Windows 7 installed instead of Windows 8---how would someone know my name-he did and what Windows I had installed? I told him I would call back later...and someone probably will. Hopefully someone who can track him. He is not in Texas as he said. And it was a large call center he was in. It was noisy.  That in itself is scary.  Be careful of this scam.

Received a call from Jonathan Mathews in NC at 877/753-9167 and had me go to the computer and find that I had some warnings and some red marks that indicate they need to fix it.  He said he was working for a Service Provider for Microsoft.   After I give him my computer his team will fix my computer.  He didn't know if a cost would be involved until they look at my computer.

Getting calls from this scam.  This AM got a call and told him to hold the line.  Went into the garage and lite 2 firecrackers.  Told him I just shot the neighbor and I needed his phone number and name as the police will want to talk to him.  He gave me "Richard Dawson" (the actor) and a number of 877-753-1166.  I called the number and it went to some med insurance call center (party line).  He called back and I told him I was the son of the person that he talked to and that my father was at the jail for shooting the neighbor.  I said that the police want to talk to him and he gave me the same name with a different number, 877-753-9167.  This number was not answered.

Don't screw with old retired guys, we have nothing but time and crazy ideas.

Got a call from same outfit.  A woman with very thick Indian or Pakistani accent was on the phone.  Claimed she was from Windows Technical Support Unit.  After asking her numerous times, she admitted she/her company was not part of Microsoft but implied they worked for Microsoft.  Same nonsense about my computer being infected.  She wanted me to follow various steps.  I asked if they will at some point try to remotely access my computer (I'm sure that is what the steps she wanted me to take would eventually lead to).  After some vigorous back and forth, she said if she found a lot of infections on my computer, she would turn me over to her senior technician who would help me.  Entire tone implied all this for no cost.  She eventually admitted they would have me grant remote access.  I asked for a callback number and she gave me a website (windowspcsupport.com) and when pressed, she gave me this callback number.

If it looks like a scam and smells like a scam it is probably a scam.

This Indian guy has called me at least 3 times with the same scam.  I'm calling from Microsoft about your PC that has been infected w/a virus.  Last 2 times told him not to call any more, but he just called again.  I wish he could be arrested.  Apparently some people do fall for this scam and waste good money!

A friend got a call from this number from a dude with an Indian accent claiming to work for Micro PC PCARE on behalf of Microsoft and said that their PC had been hacked 13,000 times and that he could offer protection for life, needless to say we were very wary of this, somehow he set up an IP Intergration on the pc and hid the desktop items, When my friend refused to give their credit card details ( I cant remember the prices quoted) He got very angry. I couldn't uninstall the IP Intergration because the PC doesn't have permission to do so, therefore this F****** A***HOLE has complete control over my friends pc, pc is now at an experts place so hopefully he can ressolve this problem!
This world is full of scammers and they seem to have a very clever way of pulling the wool over the mojority of us innocent people!

Ask how he new and or could log onto my account with out my permission. He said window service center was always on sights? Asked for the phone number to call him back, Called back got someone named Robin who answered and wanted to argue with me about this being a scam, I had a problem understand what he was saying because of his broken english. Asked him where I was calling the USA or India and it was India. More jobs lost in the US. Stop the harrasment and shut them down.

Really helpful people. I got my computer fixed within 25 min. Thanks guys, to let me know that there are such great techies with superb service. They also confirmed that they are not related to Microsoft. That's why I trust them for telling me the truth.

I had a problem with the Outlook Express, not working i.e. I could't receive any emails or send. They checked and fixed it immediately without any service charge. That's Great.

Got a call from a blocked number today saying that my computer has some viruses. They are from Windows repair service and they wanted me to go to the computer right away so that the can fix it. They ask me if I have Windows 7 on my computer. I said I have Windows 98, 2000, and XP. The guy on the phone said if I have XP it is ok. I can hear in the background there are a few people on the phone with the same script.

Just for laughs I told the guy I was not home, promised to call him back for all computers at home and spent a few minutes stringing him along asking him questions. He tried to convince me to get back home right away and turn on the computer but gave up after a while.

He gave up the following bits of info during the conversation:
He is calling from Micro PC Center, in Delaware. (When I ask him if all people from Delaware have his accent he was upset and told me I should not get personal).
He is definitely not from Microsoft. (He was very serious about that).
I had to ask him a few times how much it will cost and he he finally said it may be about $60 to fix the computer but he won't talk about price until I'm in front of computer.
His name is Adam Rozer and I should call him as soon as I get home, at 1 (877) 753-9167.
