I ended up filing a complaint with my state of ohio attorney generals office & the consumer protection specialist told me that if I asked them for their address & a copy of loan agreement & they refused than they are not legit & they will probably stop calling me but my attorney generals office is looking into it, they said they mailed them a copy of my complaint I think it's pretty odd that all of the sudden this oakwood company has a address when an attorney generals office follows up on them! These people aren't getting a dime from me unless they prove they are legit through my attorney generals office! & these people become irate when you refuse to pay & ask them for address & copy of loan documents! That's a sign that something isn't right! I hope someone shuts these people down! It also looks like they have been doing this a few years I found other comments from consumers that are from 2012! & the names & numbers are all different but the messages are the exact same! Don't let these people scare you! They aren't legit! & they have stopped calling me since I told them I know my rights & I know they aren't legit!

The FDCPA compels debt collectors to reveal a business name on request. It doesn't expressly compel that at all times they should divulge contact data, but I would argue that withholding an address needed to seek debt validation and/or restrict contact interferes with a person's FDCPA rights. If I had to sue a tight-lipped collector I would call that an unfair practice. I'm fairly sure the FTC doesn't like it, wither.

Debt is civil,not criminal, so you're not going to be arrested even if you did default on a loan.  To threaten arrest is a violation of the FDCPA.  You stated you had debts which were covered by bankruptcy - threatening you over debts which were covered by bankruptcy is also a violation of the FDCPA and bankruptcy laws. Disclosure of the reason for the call to a third party is yet another FDCPA violation.  They contacted your relatives (and ex) in order to maximize your embarrassment and put pressure on you to pay a debt which, most likely, is bogus.  NEVER pay any caller who refuses to mail proof that you owe a debt and that they have the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail this documentation is another FDCPA violation.  The burden of proof is on your caller to show that you owe this alleged debt to them.

I would definitely report your caller to the FTC, FBI, Dept of Justice and your state's Attorney General.  You may also want to contact the attorney who handled your bankruptcy, however, I'm sure he'll tell you that the callers are either scammers or junk debt collectors who can't prove you owe money.  If they call you, advise them you're recording all calls they make to you.  Do try to get a company name and mailing and physical address - I'll bet they won't give you that information, since you could go after them for multiple violations of the FDCPA.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

Debt Collector
I got a call from some guy last week & he left a voicemail telling me he's warning me & I have officially been notified! Then he also called my ex sister in law cause we had same address for 2 years! & told her everything & had a claim number!! So I call this number back because they literally called 10 times in a row on my cell phone & I got a lady named (Jane) who also hesitated when I asked her name! But I really thought it was about a payday loan I took out 3 years ago for $300 & she told me I had to make a payment of $700 right then! I told her that's impossible! I don't have that kind of money! So I gave them an old credit card number & set up a payment plan then I started googling & realized it's probably a scam when I came across this thread! So when Jane called me Thursday cause I defaulted on payment I asked her I need ur address cause I'm going to am attorney & she refused & I also said I need a copy of loan agreement & she said she didn't have it & doesn't have to provide me that info! I said I know my rights & by law yes you do! & she said no I don't & told me I would be arrested in 2 to 3 hours if I didn't pay her I said bring it on! & then I said if u can't give me an address & copy of loan agreent I'm not paying you s***!!!& I hung up! They haven't called since & I reported them to attorney generals office in ohio!

Debt Collector
This number called me and then looked up everyone in the US with the same last name. My ex of 20 years called me because they called him and they also called my adult son. We have no idea how they obtained cell phone numbers of my ex and my son.
I filed bankruptcy 2 years ago and I believe this may be related to forgiven debt. The person who talked to my son said they filed charges against me and gave him a case number. They asked him to get in touch with me so I won't be arrested.

Aren't legitimate processing, collection agencies  required by law to disclose the full name and address if requested to verify the validity of the company?
This place "Oakwood" refused to answer me this information.  This of course is very sketchy to me.

What happened? I got a call from them today stating I had a "breach of contract" with an old gym from over 6 years ago. They pushed me to just settle and pay the $800+ I didn't so they needed with "you'll have to provide paperwork stating you didn't breach the contract, and if you don't Good Luck" hangs up.

got a call from this number, they said I had a warrant, a case against me. I turned them to my local atty. general. Make a report with your local police for a report. I hired a lawyer he is going to research this matter. Atty. advise me it's illegal to make threats, or tell you , your go to jail. We see them in court.
