I received the same phishing message described above on my work mobile phone.  An internet search reveals the scammers have been using the same Netspend ploy for at least a year using other toll free numbers. Identity thieves should be exterminated on sight. Too bad they're not recognizable on sight!  So, instead, if caught, torture them to death very slowly.

When I get calls like this, I put assign their phone number the name "SPAM", so when they call again, and I see "SPAM", I decline the call.

They could just be robot dialing all phone numbers, completely disregarding no-call lists.
The supposed e-mail they gave, that could be a way for them to use your e-mail to sell to other worthless pos.

Just got a call from these folks, but didn't understand the intro--I have a slight hearing loss. I understood it was about a card, and since I made an unusual purchase today, I thought there might have been a legitimate issue.

But the instant the machine asked me to enter my card number, I hung up. Never, ever give an unknown caller your card number. Anyone who asks is a blatant scammer.

I just received a voice mail from this company. Computerized voice said "Hello this is NetSpend Customer Service, calling with an important message regarding your prepaid debit card. Please call us at 877-769-6950, that's 877-769-6950. Please enter your NetSpend card account number when prompted and you will be automatically transferred to the appropriate area. Please Note: If you have already spoken to us about this matter you may disregard this message and no further action is required. Thank you, Bye!"
I do not have a card issued by NetSpend and I would bet that the others being targeted by this call campaign do not either. There has been a rash of supposed companies like this one lately calling cell numbers only. I have my phone number registered on the do not call list. It sure seems like this company is disregarding rules about calling the numbers contained in the do not call registry. The website for this company says to email Dan Henry with complaints ceodan@netspend.com. We should flood his email with complaints. This kind of thing puts a bad taste in the consumer's mouths, they should wise up and stop.

Same here, left a message on my cell phone saying it was regarding my prepaid card.  Since it is so obviously a phishing scam from all the other comments on this site, I'm not even going to bother looking at my credit report.

GR,

I wish it were that simple. This isn't from actual Netspend, this is a scammer. I called the actual customer service number and I was told that a lot of people are reporting these fraudulent calls. I'm only replying to your post because I don't want people to think this is a harmless but annoying "try our debut card" call and end up giving out personal info.

They left a voicemail. I have an acct but I've always heard that banks don't generally call and if you are concerned if it's legit then to hang up and call the number on your cc, not the one that the scammers leave. I listened to the msg, then called the number on the back of my cc and the customer service rep said they are getting A LOT of ppl calling about such messages. I'm sad ppl are being scammed. So here's what helps me:

Never answer a number you don't know (if it's important, they will leave a msg)

Call any company you do business with via the number listed on your statement or your card.

It was tempting to answer this call but I'm glad I didn't, they could have done real financial damage

I got a call this morning at about 11:30 am (Central Time Zone) from this number. Said they with "netspend", but it was difficult to understand that. I called back a few times and picked up on it. I was instructed to enter my 16 digit debit card number to proceed. I didn't do that, but instead checked here. I fear some people will fall for this. I am not one of them.

Same thing, just called me earlier about a pre-paid debit card saying it was from netspend. I checked the netspend website and it isn't even the same number for customer service. And when I called back the number all it was, was an automated thing wanting the digits of the supposed card.

Not sure if this is legit or not.  The phone number does not match the number on the NetSpend website's contact us page.

Whoever they are called and left a message.  The first part was cut off, presumably since their recording did not realize they were speaking to my voicemail.

...Prepaid debit card. Please call us at (877) 769-6950 That's (877) 769-6950. Please enter your NetSpend card account number when prompted. And you will be automatically transferred to the appropriate area. Please note. If you have already spoken to us about this matter you may disregard this message is no further action is required. Thank you, goodbye.

Had several calls from this no. on my cell phone which I rarely use.  For this reason only a few people have my number, how did they get it?  Something about a debit card, I suspect a scam and haven't answered.  My cell phone is from the stone age, haven't figured out how to block them.  I am paying for every second, it irks me no end!

THIS CALL WAS MADE BY A COMPANY NAMED "NETSPEND" - THEY ARE HAWKING THEIR VISA PREPAID DEBIT CARD. THERE IS NOTHING TRUTHFUL ABOUT YOU OR YOUR DEBIT CARD WITH THEM. THIS IS JUST A SCAM TO GET YOU CALL AND ENROLL YOU IN THEIR PROGRAM. DO NOT REPLY TO THESE CROOKS.

THE PRE-RECORDED VOICE MAIL LEFT A MESSAGE ON MY CELL PHONE REGARDING A DEBIT CARD - THEY WERE TRYING TO RESOLVE AN "ISSUE" WITH THAT CARD.  THEY SAID IF IT HAD BEEN RESOLVED THAT WE DID NOT NEED TO CALL THEM BACK.  AT THE START OF THE MESSAGE THEY DO NOT EVEN STATE WHAT THE COMPANY NAME IS - WHAT A SCAM!
