I don't think they tap into the phone, but some scammers will try to get you to call them back, ie they trick you, or you call back to be removed from their list, either way when you call them if they are from outside your country then they can legally charge WHATEVER OUTRAGEOUS FEES THEY WANT. Not sure who these pricks are, they could be from anywhere, since VoIP technology allows you to spoof (immitate) another number. Welcome to the 21st century where ignorance with technology will get you burned.

Best advice you will EVER get about unwanted calls:

1. Never pick up the phone to a long distance number you do not know, if it was important then they would leave a message or they would mail you if it was in regards to bills (so check your mail at least once a week) if you have not checked you mail and you are getting bugged then GO CHECK IT.

2. Most unknown calls these days got your number from websites, contests, and any company you deal with ie Telus or something like Microsoft etc. HOW? because everytime you give your number to a company there is a legal clause that allows them to deny involvement because they stated "we are not responsible for what our 3rd parties do" ironically these parties from some companies are actually subsidiaries, f****ng criminals.  

3. TRUST NO COMPANY - hell trust no one for that matter and ALWAYS protect your personal information, if your number is listed on Facebook you are an idiot, plain and simple.  You wouldn't walk into Compton wearing an Armani suit flashing your gold jewelry and wallet asking armed thugs for directions now would you? Don't be naive. Hell I NEVER give out my details and yet I still get calls from pricks like this because of the 3rd party s***.

4. Don't complain because you are on the DO NOT CALL LIST, this list can take a MINIMUM of 1-2 years to start paying off for you, will it eliminate ALL CALLS? NO, that would suggest this tiny body of the government would have the reach to foreign countries who could really give two shites. So complaining online that they are in trouble is only showing ignorance. I know phone busters since they are in my city and I have contacts that works at the same location.

5. Get yourself a Panasonic phone set with call block. You will still hear the first ring but they will stop eventually, ...only to try 2 months later from a new number.

6. It is important to know that 9 out of 10 times this is a computer operated dialer using a free service VoIP system, so when you answer you acknowledge a LIVE NUMBER and you are telling these scammers you are naive too. SO NEVER CALL THEM BACK and asked to be removed, that is FUTILE, instead do what you are suppose to do, record the amount of calls, do not erase the number from your phones history, this way if they call more than the legal amount of time (check you local laws - for argument sake let's say 3 times a week) then you have the evidence without having to get pissed off at the retarded phone companies who try to make it difficult for you or try to charge you for a history. Also check your phone statements because in a lot of cases it is on the reverse side anyways.

7. If you are on the Do-Not-Call-List then be patient like I said it can take up to and over a year.  Companies VOLUNTEER to BUY this list from the phone companies, because if they are legit business people then they want to try to avoid being sued, but it is the foreign scammers who do not fear it since they are VERY hard to track down, and if they are clever then they will probably never be found.

I hope I haven't missed anything, please copy this information and post it EVERYWHERE, so I do not have to do all the work, help me out to educate the public since our governments DO NOT CARE ABOUT US, you are just a number in a system now. On recoit ce genre d'appel à tous les jours depuis 2 mois, c'est royalement fatiguant.J'ai rappelé le numéro sur l'afficheur du décodeur Optik,. Les messages sont à peine audible ( qui me forcait à rappeler 3 fois pour mieux comprendre) et on nous offre l'option de retirer le numero de leur liste. je l'ai fait et j'espère de ne plus avoir leurs appels. Le message vocal est une femme avec un accent britannique. la prochaine fois, il risque de tomber sur un homme tres faché.

We received calls from that phone number since 2 months, all days and i am very tired about this. I recalled them with tehir phone number and they offer to remove our number from their list written on my Optik tv decoder. The messages are not loud and we have to repeat the options several times to get it clear. I remove my phone number and i hope they will not call us again. The vocal message has a british accent from a female voice. If it happens ( they call back again), i will be very angry

C'est des appels 3 a 4 fois par jour.  Ennervant...je ne sais pas quoi faire...

Nous recevons régulièrement des appels du (877) 780-0365 et lorsque nous répondons, la ligne se coupe. C'est vraiment dérangeant.
Lorsqu'on signale ce même numéro, un message enregistré (en anglais seulement) nous livre un message, loin d'être clair. C'est vraiment dérangeant!!!

j'ai aussi appelé à ce no, effectivement ca dit en anglais, qu'on peut retirer notre no de leur liste, je l'ai fait on verra bien si ça arrêtera. D'après les autres commentaires, ça semble être la banque MBNA, j'ai une carte Mastercard CAA avec eux, donc légalement ils ont le droit de m'appeler, mais ils sont très fatigants, ils veulent toujours vendre quelques options supplémentaires,. Ils appellent le soir ou à l'heure des repas, je reçois en moyenne 3 ou 4 appels par moi. Je pense que si ça continue je vais annuler cette carte de crédit et leur dire pourquoi!!!

Je vous donne un petit truc personel: ne donnez JAMAIS votre vrai numero de telephone a la banque et surtout pas a une compagnie de carte de credit. C'est quand la derniere fois ou on vous a appele au telephone pour un paiement en retard? Jamais. Les banques communiquent toujours par courrier sauf pour essayer de nous fourvoyer avec des produits qui ne servent a rien.

Il y avait beaucoup de grésillements du coup le monsieur a raccroché en me disant qu'il nous rappellerait plus tard ! Au vu de vos commentaires je ne répondrais plus non plus.

Nous avons constamment des appels de ce numéro, quand on répond personne ne répond. Nous aimerions que ça cesse s.v.p.

Ce numéro correspond à AllState insurance en Floride.  Il semble que cela n'est pas intentionnel de leur part, ils sont censés faire enquête, car moi aussi je reçois des appels au moins 2 fois par jour.

I called back to their number and someone answer I asked them to take off my number from their call list and the girl answer me that she couldn't find my answer in her system and that maybe their marketing department added the number but she can't have access to it. I told her, if you are able to get my number in your system you should be able to take it out. It's an harassment! We'll see if they will call back.

Ils m'ont appelé le 12, 13, 16, 18 et le 19 mars. C'est vraiment fatiguant. J'ai même suivi les instructions pour qu'ils arrêtent de m'appeler et ça appelle toujours!

Faite attention à ce numéro qui vous appelle, c'est des imposteurs... ne répondez pas à leurs questions...svp, c'est dangereux
