I keep getting these messages as texts, which count against my monthly allotment. I called the # knowing it was a scam and told the operator to F#%@ O#$% and quit texting me.

I received the same SMS. Almost gave my card, then told the lady I do telemarketing and nothing is ever free. Asked what would be monthly charges I would encure; she stated one time fee. Then said are you able to pay or not. First if all she is rude and no respectable company would handle a consumer in this manner. Surely a scam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah same deal with me... they were very persistent and tried to have me repeat my name, address, and debit card number multiple times. I reluctantly gave the info yesterday (the $100 was very tempting), they charged my debit card $1 and since then nothing else has appeared. After reading this web page I called my bank today and had my debit card number changed just to be safe. Although the company which appears on my debit card statement appears to be legitimate judging by the BBB rating I found on them which was an A-.... It isn't worth the risk though.

I got the same message. He was very persistent in wanting to complete the transaction. I hung up on him. Got a call back from a 000-00-0000 phone number. Very weird.

This is a version of the automatic debit scam as described by the FTC here http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/telemarketing/tel06.shtm To get your freebie/winnings/whatever, the scammers want your card to charge for shipping but buried in the fine print is authorization to charge your card every billing cycle with bullsh*t difficult-to-cancel subscriptions. Your bank may decline to refund charges even though you were unaware of it. Report to the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm , the Federal Trade Commission https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/ and your state AG, as appropriate.
