caller ID give the number only. as per my habit, I don't answer calls from 800 numbers so I let the phone ring. After four rings, the call stopped. No message on the machine either.

Yes, same thing! It calls every day..I answer to a clicking hangup sound and when i call back it states number not in service....very annoying!!!
Maybe the police should be involved.

Same as everyone else.....constant calls from 877-795-2279; usually two a day for several days in a row; then maybe a week's break.  I have picked it up on the very first ring and actually gotten a person who wants a donation for the Florida Police Benevolent Association.  There is such an organization, but I highly doubt that they are really the ones making these calls.  I have repeatedly asked to be taken off their call list and have reported the number to the Do Not Call Complaint line, nothing is working.

Its not the Florida Police Benevolent Association making the call, its a contract telemarketing company working on their behalf. If your numbers are on the Do Not Call Registry and you are getting these calls, file complaints. The registry works but only after a certain number of complaints are received.

Same thing has been happening to me.  I went to their website (flpba.org) and called the contact number there, and was given this number to call: 800-894-9555.  The woman who answered said she would remove my name immediately.

This number calls me daily. Never anybody on the line when answered. When I call it back it says the number is not in service

This company calls repeatedly (sometimes 3 times a day) claiming to be the Florida Highway Patrol requesting donations. They are NOT the FHP! When I asked for a website for more information they directed me to their website that is for multi-level marketing. They are rude and harassing and even though I told them several times to take me off their calling list, it took a formal complaint to the Division of Consumer Services before they complied. Do not donate to them!

Today I did what you said YOU did....I phoned that number and requested my name be dropped from their database.  I continued to quiz this very nice receptionist about who and where the monies go that are solicitated from these people who make the phone calls.  They are, indeed, all telemarketers and a big percentage of what a person donates goes to pay them, not to the police benevolent association.  If you really want to donate to that association, do not use the mailer envelope that comes in the mail after you agree to donate.  Send your donation directly to the association.  That way the association will receive the 100% of your donation.  Once you agree to a donation and use the mailer envelope you receive, your phone number is cemented in that database and passed along to all caller lists.  This is why you will hear from everyone charity listed.

This number is utilized by a "masked" network, a phony charitable organization purporting to be the either the PBA, Firemans Fund, Save The Childred, Aged Assistance, etc. It is NOT, repeat, NOT a non-profitable agency. It's sole purpose is to solicite funds for their own bank-account straight from your pocket. Don NOT donate to this outfit; Over the course of six years they have generated in excess of 4.7 million dollars nationwide. This is how they can afford to call victims over and over. They have no central location. Each organizational "cell" exists somewhere in the U.S. under a branch office with a different tn, name and business license, all obtained through fraudulent documentation. Unfortunately, each telephone company they deal with only requires the set-up fee and the monthly fee to set up an 800 or 877 number. This allows many illegal outfits to operate in this manner. There is an ongoing investigation by the FCC and other authorities on this particular outfit...WARNING!!! WHEN THEY MASQUERADE AS A COLLECTION AGENCY, THEY WILL DEMAND YOUR SSN, BANK ACCOUNT NUMBER AND YOUR MOTHER'S MAIDEN NAME IN ORDER TO "CLEAR" YOU OFF  THIER LIST...DO NOT GIVE THIS INFO TO THEM, IT WILL , REPEAT, WILL BE USED TO ILLEGALLY OBTAIND FUNDS IN YOUR NAME..Stay tuned...there will be more to come....

Beware of these obvious SCAM ARTISTS! The Main M.O. is that they call more than once a day from different phone number IDs. This call center uses the number 877-795-2270. USES MANY CALLER ID MASKS, SUCH AS CLOTHING DRIVE & also calls with masked caller ID showing no number and UNKNOWN or UNAVAILABLE. usually shows as CONNECTING or UTILITIES on caller ID and uses many phone numbers masked with a 904 area code, and a 265, 573, or 861 prefix. this solicitor has been told many times in the past to stop calling / remove us from their list, but continues to call several times per month, sometimes multiple times a day, and a week at a time. this aggressive solicitor has used profanity when no verbal response was given. usually claims to work with, CLOTHING DRIVE, fraternal order of police, or fireman's fund. report them to: www.donotcall.gov

I called the PBA and they referred me to John Taylor at their center of operations (this seems to be a third party call center that makes these calls). The number to reach him is 1-800-894-9555. They made me give my name and explain why I was calling before allowing me to speak with him. I told them that I had a complaint and was referred to him by the PBA. That did it. He confirmed that this is their number and that it should work to call back. He also entered my number into an internal do-not-call database that will remove my number from current and future lists that they use.

This is totally unfair to have people call my house when I am sick and need my rest. I shouldn't have to unplug my phone or listen to it ring and ring.

Call Florida PBA in Tallahassee at 1-800-733-3722 and complain. They will call the telemarketer to take your name off call list.

I get a call from this number every day. It is obviously a charitable solicitation and therefore exempt from the "Do Not Call" list. I believe it is from the FHP Benevolent Association, which is a worthy cause, but it is terribly annoying and should be stopped.

caller hangs up when phone is answered.  This is an ongoing annoyance for too long.  When *69 is used to check the number calling, 1-877-795-2279 is given by an opertor, when this number is called back, an recording says "this number is out of service."  LET'S GET THIS ANNOYING AND ABUSING USE OF THE PHONE SYSTEM STOPPED.
