Debt Collector
Called my toll free # from 877-801-4922, looking for someone I've never heard of. Further inquiry from me indicated the toll free # they dialed wasn't even mine, so she asked for my toll free #.
Told her that it had no relevance, so I ended the call.
Very strange.
Based out of Buffalo, NY, 716-335-9420 is a cell phone # associated with 877-801-4922.

The Dumbest scammer I have ever talked to. Called from a private number saying he is a private locater. Convo went like this:

Him:  I need your address to serve you court order papers for a unpaid debt.

Me:    1505  S. Christmas St (fake address of course)

Him:  But we have P.O. box XXX on file.

Me:    Well if you wanna deliver them to a post office  go ahead.

Him:  Call this number to make payment arrangements and they will call me to let me know whether or not to serve you. 877-801-4922.

He called me backed 10 minutes later and I was like what the hell you want now. His reply "well I was just waiting for them to call me back about serving the papers." Dumb diddy dumb. lol.

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

Received call at work.  Caller claims his name is William Hanley or Henley and that he is a private locator hired to find me.  Says I am his last chance before court papers are served and he shows up at my place of employment.   Won't advise what he is even calling about nor will he give any info about the supposed debt he is calling about.  Gives the number 877-801-4922 and advises I have 24 hours to call back.  Calls my work again the next day after being told not too.  Has already violated the Fair Debt Collections Act in about 5 different ways.  When calling the number a female answers ECS.  Have never recieved anything in writing from this company.   Must think people are idiots.  Don't believe his scare tactics.

I don't know how the hell is anyone suppose to know what is real and what is not as i am starting to hate how far technology has come. It has alot of great aspects of keeping in touch with family and friends among other things but for people to use it like this being able to get so much information on a person and using scare tactics is horrible. I talk to these people 4 hours ago and some lady was in my area to serve papers right now but they wanted to take care of this within serving me the papers and i told him well where is she 4 hours later i didn't take care of this supposed debt but she is not here. Hello you stupid scam artist!!!

I received a call from this number wondering if it is also a scam about some payday loan that i supposably had, this is 3rd time i received call like this. 1st time different number 786-342-0953 Miami FL telling me they would arrest me within a couple of hours if i didn't agree to give them information and money, nothing happened, the second time was a local police dept supposably showing on my caller id but when i called it said not a working number so i called police dept directly and they told me that it wasn't a number of theirs as that is so scary that they can actually do that to people and the 3rd time was from this 877-801-4922 number. I asked where they were located and they told me nationwide but when i asked where it is he was he told me i am not at liberty to disclose that info to me so i asked why not since they want me to disclose all my info, hmmmmm makes you wonder. i am getting tired of being an easy target of harrassment as there needs to be someway to stop all this b***s***!!!

They don't give a name and I can't find anything on Google. They've called me at least 8 or 9 times in the last 2 days looking for 3 different people - their number also came up as 716-335-9420 the first time. Anyone else hear from them?
