Just got a call from these guys lying about my mother. She does owe some credit cards due to some health problems from years ago. The guy on the phone tried to tell me there was a civil case pending and my mother was going to be summoned. Even gave me a fake case number. I was concerned. It is my mom we are talking about and she is older and not quiet totally with it. So as I start askimg more questions I get more made up legal stuff. Kind of funny in hind sight. The whole ruse was fabricated to get my mother to call them to collect on a debt. I believe that this company has a right to collect on debt (that they purchased for pennies on a dollar) but I think it is illegal to trick people or lie about why one is calling. Good luck to them. My mom owes money that I would pay if I could but don't have the extra money. She is guilty of that. She does not mislead or lie. These people seem to do that.

Got a call about a summons and case#. I am speakind with a Rick/Rich Snyder @ EUP. I cannot recall an account like they claim that was never paid off. No such account exists on my credit report. They cannot supply with with any more info than just the card # and balance. They say that I won't see that info until the court hearing. After reading all of these complaints I am even more confused and don't know what to do. Do I take it as a scam and see if someone actually serves me with court papers or do I pay them? I'm afraid if I do get a summons and go to court they are going to hit me for more than the original payoff offer. I don't want to get stuck with court fees and such.

Got the same call at work from someone saying he wanted to double check that I had received the certified documents. I grilled him with more questions than he could answer, and all he could say was that he was with the investigations division. I asked are you an investigator? He said no. I said are you with law enforcement? Again no, but if I called this 1-800 number they could give me information. I said doesn't sound like an investigation I need to be concerned with and hung up. He called back and said I can transfer you to someone right now who can answer your questions. I said what I would really like is your mailing address. He said he didn't know. I said how can you not know the address where you work. He said well I can transfer you to someone with more information. I said, "you know what, that is quite alright. I have all the information I need" and hung up again.

I am so thankful for this site - being able to read this has taught me a lesson to dig in deep! And thanks to Charles for adding the additional phone #'s because NOW IM SURE this is the company! I think I see how they get our information - I got a call from them yesterday saying all this I'm reading now. Since then I pulled a recent copy of my credit report and noticed a CREDIT INQUIRY on my report from Enterprise United Partners.....funny huh....are they allowed to get my credit report and look for my bad debt from a Bankruptcy case and try to use this against me? Saying I just stopped paying this account recently?? All I know is yes we are being violated at our jobs which should be against the law. So I decided to call the # that was listed on my report. A girl answers "YES" I said can you hear me she said yes and I started to talk and she hung up on me...I called back and it goes to voice mail...? Hooper was so sure to make me belive this was my debt I was almost willing to listen - but after going home and looking more at my past finances I am now sure this debt has already been resolved. It's a shame to use people who have tried to make a difference in the decisions that were made in the past and to try to better there future. Its not that we don't want to pay our bills its that our governent has robbed us blind and we just cant!

"if its in statues and they own the title"

That is the important statement. Is the debt within the statute of limitations and can they fully validate the debt.

You need to look up "validation letters". Read and follow the instructions. Also, look up the statute of limitations. This will provide information regarding how long a collector has to bring a lawsuit against you.

Most likely, these clowns will not be able to validate the debt and/or the debt will be too old to bring suit against.

One note, if sued always show up to court. If you don't  they will get a default judgment. Please read more on line to get more details or talk to a consumer attorney. Do not let these guys bully you.

what an idiot...if they are suing you they are not a collections agency and are not bound by the fdcpa...stop reading s*** on the internet cause your just as bad as the idiot that told you that.  collections agency's call you and try to get you to pay...someone that is suing your sorry a** does not want you to pay.  i swear to god you people are idiots and need to spend more time working and paying your debts and less time speaking about things which you have zero knowledge of.

if its that old not likely they will sue...unless you live in ohio...which is like 15 year statute...some people believe that you can not be sued after a period of time...but you can sue at any time...its up to the debtor to defend their self with statute of limitations.

any settlement is at the discretion of the owner of the debt..you as a consumer are only given the options that the owner is willing to take...once they decide to move forward in a civil suit good luck getting a settlement.  i can tell you for a fact we do not deal with any debtors after we start the process.  most of you on here that are bashing collectors and or investors that just sue have not clue what you are talking about.  bottom line is and will always be if you guys pay your bills we wouldnt have our jobs.  so thank you all for not paying...i love my job and i love it even more when people like you post these remarks and screw over the people you seek to protect...nothing is more satisfying that being told to f*** off and then going to court and seeing that person that called me a scam artist not show up...can you stay judgment by default...yeah..im sure some of you on her know exactly what im talking about...and your just here now talking your trash cause misery loves company.  well...to all of you that are being sued or are about to...here is some good advise from someone who actually does this for a living.  if you think its a scam do your homework...if you owe the debt..pay it...its your fault your in this position.  if you get sued its your fault...stop looking for people to blame for your mistakes and handle your affairs and guess what...you can put me out of a job...wouldnt that make all you trash talkers happy..but lets be honest here...ill always have a job...and the people on here that make these trash talking posts have been or will be sued in the future...but i promise you they wont actually tell you about it...cause that means they would have to admit they are wrong and also have to admit they dont pay their bills...see you in court!!!

yes you can be sued...if its in statues and they own the title they have every right the original creditor had.  they can pursue every avenue of collections.  so you can either believe the people in these posts that have no clue what they are talking about.  or you can do some homework...talk to a local attorney and have them tell you the same thing i just did. any attorney that has passed the bar will tell you flat out if your debt is within statute of limitations you 100 percent can be sued for not paying it.  its the owner of the debts choice..you can in your contract be help accountable for any and all fees associated with the fees associated with the involuntary collections of your debt IE civil lawsuit...all those fees can be transferred to you...my advise...check facts...not what some idiots on here post because they think they have a clue.

Did you notice that with minimal digging you can find not only the owner's name but his home address? And that until 2010 he ran a flooring company out of the same address?

The mailing addresses everyone's listed here are mailboxes at a UPS store. They run the business from their house, apparently.

They called my husband at his office today to "verify his address" because a summons was being delivered. (They told this to the receptionist twice today.) He called the number back to find out why, and it was for a credit card of mine. When he talked with them, they insisted they'd been trying to contact us for years, that the summons was imminent, and that we'd opened the credit card in 2002, and made payments on it until 2007. That was the red flag--we went debt free in 2005, paying off and closing all credit accounts in June of 2005. He hung up and called me, very worried. I have no idea what this credit card is, so I call them. Thankfully, I used to work for the BBB and a collection agency, so I know what's what. When I ask them to send me proof of the debt owed, plus any records of payments made, they refuse and say I can see those records in court. Okay. When I ask about the dates, Mr Hooper (hahaha, my kids love Sesame Street) tells me to check my credit report. He checks it too as he's talking to me and realizes the listing on the credit report is completely different dates. (When you pull the report it says "Account closed by consumer"--not charge off. It also shows a $0 balance.) He continues to insist we have 24 hours but that summons will be served imminently. Then he tells me that they've just "found" an account from the same credit card company in my husband's name from the same time period. (Again, one we paid in full more than six years ago.)  They're trying to collect more than $3000 in fines and fees for debts that totalled less than $400 six years ago when they were paid in full to the original credit card company.

I'm very concerned because I don't like being scammed, but I also don't want unpaid debts floating out there, so I pull reports from all three credit bureaus. All show the debt is not only well past the statute of limitations, but that it was paid off and closed by the consumer. We had been late at one point, but that was seven years ago, and paid it off in 2005. Statute of limitations in my state is five years.

By the way, in my state, threatening to serve summons or sue someone past the statute of limitations is a $1000 fine per occurance. I might have some fun recording his call tomorrow to see if I can get him to make that threat and then play it for my friend, the Attorney General...

First of all spell check is your friend you should use it.  Secondly I agree that if you owe something you should pay but what this company is doing is illegal!!!  It is not legal for a debt collector to threaten anyone, a threat is defined by the FDCPA as something you either do not have the authority or the intention of doing.  No creditor can obtain a judgement on a debt that is past the statue of limitation.  They can not garnish wages in some jurisdictions they can ask the court for a garnishment but the collection agency has NO POWER to do so.  This agency often uses the term "Processing Department" what exactly is it that they are trying to take credit for processing?  If someone is sued for a debt the suit must be filed with the court and the court will provide service usually via certified mail. Rarely will it be a court official at your door and never will it happen exactly one hour after the idiot on the phone tells you it is going to. Once you are served you have 30 days to respond.  This kind of strong arm tactics is the exact reason the FDCPA was enacted to begin with.  DO NOT BE A VICTIM TO THIS KIND OF SCUM!!!! Know your rights.  OH and BTW since I am pretty sure you are an employee of this Scumbag company do me a favor and let your bosses know that they messed with the friend of the wrong bill collector.  Ask what there deductible is on a Class Action.  Wow on this site alone I bet I can find plenty of plaintiffs.  I know how comfortable your company is with court so I am sure it will not be a problem. Might want to cash your paychecks as soon as you get them I would hate to see them come back stamped "ACCOUNT CLOSED"

NO the reason the case number did not show is because it is a phoney case!!!! It is nothing more than a internal file number for this so called collection agency. Wrong again with the "that means theres a judgement against you." cases are assigned numbers when they are filed, what you think there is no way to identify a case till judgement is made you are an idiot spreading ignorance!!!

"enlighten one" You sound like a bill collector I know because we can smell our own.... I have been in the industry for 20 years and have made a great living at it.  I also can look in the mirror because I follow the law!!!  This company contacted a friend of mine and I counted 7 FDCPA violations from a 10 min phone call.  These are good people who would have been seriously taken advantage of had they not known me.  This kind of garbage make those of us who do follow the law look bad. This is the kind of thing that makes headlines and makes collectors look like something out of a bad mob movie.
