Received a phone call. No message left.

Called me as a "person of interest" regarding some checks written by my friend.  Did not identify who he was with or what court she was being served papers for.  Absolutely did not call back and contacted my friend who advised that this same guy called her grandmother and told her the her father had been in an accident and needed to contact my friend immediately.  Completely illegal, I'm sure...

I left out the small fact that they were calling me about bad checks I had written. I haven't written a check in over 3 years. Just another little slip up of theirs.

This is just a collector trying to scare you with the false threat of a summons. They say you have one chance to contact the party before further proceedings. The fact is, The caller "Jack Cooper" or whoever, gives only details of your name and to call the debt collector directly. If he were really serving you with a notice, he would have left his info as well for you to contact him and mail you the documents. If such summons had already been made, you'd have to appear in court no matter what.

Threatened to serve me a summons unless I call immediately to try and work things out.  Sounds like they are after some credit card information!!
