They called my cell and my work number, asking for the sprint account holder.
I notified my sprint customer service line and they promised to forward the complaint to the proper department for research.

We received same call from Sprint on our Land Line bus. phone
I called Sprint Customer Service (got the number from Sprint's Web site)

Yes, they are updating security info, which we did. I also asked for and got the Sprint reps name and id for reference.

I then called Sprint AGAIN from my cell phone to verify that I had actually updated my info with Sprint - and my call and info was verified.

I DID NOT, HOWEVER, CALL THE NUMBER THAT WAS LEFT ON MY LAND LINE BUSINESS PHONE - THE NUMBER LISTED ABOVE.

The first Sprint rep. said that the above number was on a list of numbers they use - the second rep could not verify that info. All the more reason to call Sprint via your cell phone or a customer service nubmer from your bill or their official website.

I told them they need to be much more specific when they call IF they actually expect customers to reply with critical and sensitive info. I told the rep that the Sprint representative who calls us should use our correct business name and our personal name when calling and should leave their name and id so that it can be verified.

I told them I NEVER return a call that asks for sensitive information and I doubt very many would - I automatically assume it is bogus. Legitimate companies that we do business with regularly KNOW our names and use them when they call us. They should also know, not only our business name, but the names of particular persons whom they want to speak with within that company.

She said she would pass this info on to her supervisor.

In the meantime - call Sprint directly from your cell phone - that way you KNOW you are dealing with Sprint and not some hacker who managed to copy Sprint's customer service message.

I still would NOT call the number left on my phone.

This is a SCAM!
When Sprint was called, found out they had no reason to call.

The original message from this # said they needed to verify the primary account holder's personal data or else they couldn't guarantee future access to account...

This ia pure BS, and a dangerous scam!
Remember, don't give any info to unsolicited calls from anyone!

Good Luck!

Got the same call everyone else listed.  Called the 877.. number and got the superviosr.  After a long talk, I am sure it is legit.  They knew too much about me.

...but to check, I called the number on the Sprint bill, they confimred the call was real.

but, don't do it over the phone, go to sprint.com, search for PIN, and update your account.

WHY:  Sometime in December, you will be required to enter a 6-10 digit PIN code to talk to Sprint.

no Worries...

Actually, it is true, Sprint does need to update security information for accounts.  However, it is not possible to know if the message received is from Sprint.  Someone may use the tactic to collect account information from you.

When I received the message, I ignored the recorded phone number and called customer service directly, from a number I have used for years.  The rep confirmed that security was being improved and I worked through her to add the new information.

Always be leery of messages regarding security and only contact companies using verified contact information which you have used before.

Same as everyone else; automated message saying it was not a sales call, they had important information and I was to call 1-877-866-6536.  Itching for a fight, I called the number and was greeted with a "this is outside of our normal business hours" message.  I called our Nextel 800 number and they could not explain the call and verified that there was no "important information" for our account.  This is, indeed, a scam.

We got it too, call from Sprint, 877-866-6533.
Can't the authorities figure out who it is, and punish them by putting them in a room with Ann Coulter or something?

A lady from this number left a message and said she needed to set up a security password for our Sprint account or we wouldn't have access to our account after 12/1/07.  Before I returned the call, I called Sprint Customer Care line from my bill and they confirmed that this is legit.  It is a new FCC regulation that Sprint make the passwords to their accounts conform to a 6-10 digit numerical format.

I received a message from my boss to respond to this voicemail message left for him to update some security information with Sprint.  I called 877-866-6533 and they asked me for my wireless number. I told them Sprint is not our wireless carrier (Verizon is, but I didn't tell them that).  They told me then I can disregard the call.

I called a few more times and each time the operator answered it was a different voice.  So this is reaching some kind of call center.

The last time I called I asked them if this was a scam.   She advised it was not and that they are required to update security info.  I told her why would I be asked to update security info if I never had a Sprint Wireless/cell phone number?  She said that number is in her database...she really couldn't explain.

So, either it is a scam, or Sprint messed up and put a bunch of non-Sprint numbers into their "security-update" database.

I have received two calls now from this number.  I am responsible for our company account and have nearly 200 lines with them.  i became weary about this and followed up with my rep and they said the same speal that there is some new law that requires some pin be created, but he was unsure about this particular call.  this sounds very fishy to me, i have not given any information to them.

Received voice mail and the lady said the same thing as other bloggers stated.  I called the number back and it never rang, just some music started playing.  While waiting for an answer, I found this blog.  So I hung up and called Sprint's phone number from my bill.  Spoke with a gentleman there and he said they are updating their security due to federal regulations.  Deadline is December.  However, he did not recognize the 877 number from the Sprint's list of cust. svc. numbers and forwarded the number and my concern onto his supervisor to look into it further.  He said that Sprint should never ask for anyone's ssn because it is against FCC's regulations due to the fact that the calls are recorded for quality purposes.  Don't call this number back.  Go to your Sprint Bill and call them directly just to be safe.

The FCC has mandated that ALL wireless carriers need to have all accounts establish a PIN code for security reasons due to CPNI rules (Customer privacy laws).  After 12/1/2007 you will not be able to make any changes to your account via customer care departments unless you have a PIN code.

It looks as if Sprint is reaching out to proactively establish the PIN code on accounts to prevent issues arising after 12/1/2007 if no PIN has been established on the account.

Called Sprint Customer care and had them call 877-866-6533.  The phone was answered and hung up on.  So it is likely not legit. Anything you wanted changed on a Sprint business account, you can do via Customer Care.  So always call the number on your bill from Sprint....Nextel corporate user

Received voicemail stating it was Sprint regarding business account and needed to update some security information.  Tried to return call, but it rang once and never connected further.

I contacted Sprint the customer service number listed on current invoice and was advised there is a dept. making calls to update security info.  Was asked for password and then asked to create a PIN code and choose and answer a security question.

Contrary to another report; it seemed ligit.
