Someone had just called me from an unknown  number  informing me that I am being served  to appear in court for a payday loan then  give me  a claim number and  877-880-4128 to call, and for me to call right back  so that my name could  be written off,  how can I called back when the number was unknown. I did called 877 -880-4127 and was told I have to be court tomorrow morning if don?t pay for a loan of $300. Back in 2210 I told her I am not paying any loan and she hanged up.

Debt Collector
got 2 phone calls, back to back, with name withheld, 2nd call left message.  She stated that her name is malissa brown and she rec'd papers on her desk this morning with a claim number, gave this 877 # to call back to stop papers being served tomorrow to me for claim against me.  left case number.  at end of message stated that 2 other people who I have no clue who they are are also being served under this same claim.  My husband and I over the summer had been scammed out of $800 about some debt we owed on pay day advance loan, was getting hundreds of calls a week, had to pay for service with cell ph co. to block any #;s that called me to stop this harassment of scammers!  I guess I will add this number to the list.   I really really really hate scammers and thieves, and life ruiners!!!  please BEWARE!!!!!!

I have been calls like this for several days - they left me a message yesterday telling me that I am on there "schedule" to be served tomorrow between 12 and 3:00 and to make sure I would be available.  This morning they called me three times from a blocked number and the third time left a message just letting me know that I was on there schedule today to be served and to be sure I was available with ID at my residence or work place.  So I think I will just wait it out to see if I get served!!!!!  I would love to see someone come to my house or my place of work - you can barely understand a word he says.  These people must not have anything better to do.

Also some advice:
If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.
Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Called again this morning and the message gave me a reference number and this number for callback, saying I would be served in 30 minutes. I'm waiting.

Called twice today. They've called numerous times from a private number in the past but never left a message until today. The first girl sounded legit, with her NY accent, saying it was regarding a civil case and she was calling to see if i wanted to settle before I'm served. She left a Buffalo, NY number which came up with nothing when I googled it. Second girl was less professional, saying the same thing about being served but the weird thing was both girls said that my file just got to their "office" this morning. Second girl left this 877 number and said the case was against me, my brother (who has a completely different last name) and a guy I dated briefly for maybe three months. I have NOTHING financially in common with either of them, so how they associated my name with theirs is beyond me. I almost want to call to find out how our names are associated.

also some advice:

never give any information over the phone to anyone unless you personally know them!!!
do not even answer to your own name on the phone, always take a message for the person they wish to talk to.

call goes like this:

You) Hello
Caller) is this John Doe?
You) what business is the pertaining to? (always answer a question with a question)
Caller) is this John? because it is important that I speak with John.
You) I can take a message, who may I say is calling?
Caller) I have important information for John, could you have him call ###-###-####
You) do you represent the government or a law firm?

at this point they will end the call or give you information, and you get the added bonus of making the person have to work to find the words that are not on the script. I personally like it when they stutter and stammer.

Debt Collector
it was a message for a friend and when I asked if the woman Malissa Brown was representing a law firm she  began to answer and the line was cut in mid sentence. she was starting to say that a claim was being filed then the line went dead. as I have had extensive experience with telemarketing and "boiler room" type sales. I would say that this was ran by a law firm (that is why the line went dead when I asked if she represented a law firm) that did not want to get involved with telemarketing laws. inbound calls to your phone number are highly restricted by law with large civil penalties. I believe that the call was monitored by a third party that killed the call as I was now asking questions and not giving information. also there was no time for me to tell them that they are not to call my number again.

Someone had just called me informing me to call 877-880-4128 to find out if I need to appear in Superior Court. I asked her what it was in reference to and she said I have to call this number to find out. I told her to just mail the details and she said I can only find out if I call the number.

I have been harassed before by debt collectors and it does not seem to stop. Even if they might have a legitimate claim on a person with the same name, I explained to them that I am not the person they are looking for and I don't even recognize the name they tell me is my wife.

Debt Collector
I received a restricted call saying I was going to be served papers. Then the girl patched me through and this was the number I could call them back on. They say its a debt from 2009. I did some pretty stupid stuff then and got a couple of internet loans. Is this legit or should I not pay?
