Report the issue at California Attorney General web site. Hopefully if all of us report the same problem, the attoney general will take action.

I got the same letter and it is not a legit debt, I reported to the attorney general and consulted a lawyer. If they continue with this, I will move on to legal action.

They are claiming that the credit card company disputed the payment on my behalf.  Of course the credit card company paid and there is no record that the payment was ever disputed or returned.  So I am now being threatened with jail for fraudulent credit card use, getting reported to the IRS for unclaimed income, credit bureaus for delinquent payments, and of court costs, lots and lots of court costs.

Have sent two letters back (one to Mark Weinstein  and one to Umbrella Recovery Team) asking for them to validate the debt.   They can?t validate the debt since it has been paid but that is not stopping them.   I have reported them to the CA Attorney General?s Office and FTC but the system just can?t seem to get its head around the fact that they are attempting to collect for a second time on a paid payment.

I am onboard with Cynthia here that the easiest charge to get is the Unlicensed Practice of Law.  California law requires that anyone that represents themselves as an in-house attorney must be a member of the California Bar or be a member of another states Bar in good standing and be registered with the Californian Bar.  Tried the Californian Bar and they sent me to the DA.  The DA sent me to local law enforcement and there was no interest.  Very sad the FTC told me today that I need to start checking my credit and I can just contest any discrepancy.  Perhaps the collective force of complaints to the CA Attorney General?s Office will get them to move beyond the form letter response of,

?we attempt to establish better lines of communication between the two parties involved in a consumer dispute.  This procedure is an attempt to resolve disputes between you and the company.  In many cases, the consumer and company will reach a mutually satisfactory agreement as a result of our efforts.?

Kamala Harris (CA AG) needs to get a clue and understand that the credit card company says I don?t owe them a cent. So Kamala what gives with the allowing them to unlawfully attempt to collect unowed debt?

Their number is just leading you around in circles.  It's the same dude on all the greetings.  I have to say they really went out of their way to set up an elaborate hoax!

Can they really mess up our credit and report us?

This company is fraudulent.  Do not pay them.  I cannot find Mark Weinstein's state bar license number nor will they return my calls (over 100) to provide this information.  I have reported them to the BBB where they are non-accredited, to the State Attorney General's office.  They have a non-operational website and own the credit dunning company.  Look at Elliott Smith on Linkedin... says he owns these companies.  Report them to your credit card company... print these posts out and include with a request to have your money returned.  Do whatever it takes, I intend to keep going until I find someone who will listen.  I will file a small claims court action if they do anything to ruin my father's credit, he is 82 and did not order these magazines.  I have written the magazine companies complaining specifically about this company and requested they not do business with them.  I have had them removed from the Palm Desert 24/7 website as a business.

Do not pay... report them to the State Attorney General's office.  If they threaten to sue or if they report you to a credit company file a small claims action and force them into Court.  I am going to do whatever it takes, they went after my 82 year old father for $359 worth of magazines he did not order.  Report them to the magazine companies if they had any magazines sent.

So far, I have reported them to the State Attorney General's office, the BBB, had their name taken off the Palm Desert 24/7 website and I will keep going until I am satisfied.  I am an attorney here in CA and I do not find Mr. Weinstein's name on the California State Bar site, nor would they provide his state bar number.  They simply do not answer my phone calls.  I have kept a log.  If they damage my father's credit I will see them in Small Claims Court.  Look at Elliott Smith on Linkedin.... says he is the owner of this and a credit company.... report them to your credit card company...don't quit... together we can take care of this fraudulent company.

I would not pay this, ask them for their attorney's information.  Report this to your State Attorney General's office, notify your credit card company this is fraudulent.  Their phone numbers do not work, their website is non-operational, and their collections company is owned by the same person, look at Elliott Smith on Linkedin.  This is not a legitimate company.  There is no registration for them in the State of California, there is no Mark Weinstein listed on the State Bar website.  Print out these complaints and forward them to your credit card company and to the credit rating companies.

They may have changed number. My letter says 877-566-6421. I could go on forever about only getting magazines directly from reputable magazines. I have known people who have scamed by fake companies in Florida,  Georgia and upstate NY. They are constantly changing PO Box and phone numbers.  This company said in 2012 I owed $400. Just my shock and anger reduced it to $199 in 5 seconds. Fear i f bad credit score I paid with my credit card and the payment was taken from debit card immediately. I got another letter this year on the anniversary of last year . Same month but with new amount of $199. They know my name date of birth and last year's card number. Too scary for me!  Fortunately for me my card number changed this year or they would have got me again. Strange- letter has new tel. Number new title for lawyer but same 2012 date and recording number as last year.

I experienced something similar and made an arrangement to pay off what was owed. That was almost 1 year ago and now they are threatening legal action, claiming that I never paid!

I too am being pursued for payment on magazines from a decade ago.  I received the same letter yesterday.  That I would be reported to the IRS and subject to attorney fees.  Publishers International is a very shady.  I don't know where or how to report them.

Omg! I got these same phone calls around 5/16/12 and I was stupid enough to say cha
It to the card. Realized it was a scam and canceled the card.  Then was getting more calls
And then calls from google voice #s harassing me about turning me into collections.  I just
Recieved a final notice letter in the mail. That I had to pay or they were summings me to court
Or pay in full w/in 10 days.  Funny thing the $$ amount seems to have dropped dramatically
From what they originally said I owed. CEO Mark Weinstein is also the in house attorney!

I got the same call, they kept calling me for 3 months I kept telling them to go ahead send me to collections, I really didn't think they had the ability or was an actual company I thought it was a scam. But I have been getting calls and letters from TCS an actual collection company ( I did the research ) and needless to say I'm now engaged in a payment plan to clear up 1200 WTF

Prank Call
I have received numerous phone calls from this company also. Same story as above. This time I asked to speak to a supervisor, didn't like his response so I asked for the owner of the company. A "Mark Weinstein" got on the phone and said he was the CEO. I told him do not call me again. He said he would transfer me over to a collection agency. I laughed and said that is what his representative said 2 months ago. We'll see when they call again. The funny thing is the call from a private number. I was surprised today when they gave me the 877#.
Wonder where they get their information?

Dont pay these guys anything!! If you really owe for magazine subscriptions then your best bet would be to contact each of the companies you have actually subcribed to and ask then if there is anyway you could settle your past due amount at %50. Most will gladly accept your offer. I have personally done this myself when I became disabled and lost my source of income.

I received a call from this number telling me I owed 1100....they said they would bring it down to 599 if I paid today. His name was Josh. I told him I couldn't pay right away because I live in a very isolated community and I'd have to pay an extra $600 just to pay for this thing. Because I got my prepaid mastercard from the city...I had offered to send a cheque via express post or priority courier and was refused. He then put me on hold to speak to his manager to again "decrease the amount" I had to pay. So he went down to $299. Now I am not sure if I should pay....after looking for this business online and this phone number and seeing all these comments.......

I have received several calls asking me how I liked my magazines and I have told them over and over that I do not receive magazines. They claimed they would take me off the list then last week I got another call telling that I owed them $249 for 2 issues, of course tell me what the name of the magazine was because "they represent so many companies." After asking questions the guy proceeds to tell me that it is going to go on my credit report and then changes it to $49 for 2 years I told him I would have my lawyer contact them because I was no way at all giving them my infomation, he changed it again and told me it was now $1,198.50 for 5 years I screamed at him told him he was crazy and to not contact me again!

Have received a phone call from Publisher's International concerning a claim for magaize subscriptions.  They will not produce a bill or an invoice.  They claimed in one call that they would email my wife info on the account.  When we called back because we didn't receive the email, the guy claimed that one of the "office girls" acutally has to do that becasue there needed to be a validation number.  They keep insisting that we need to give them a vaid credit card number (fat chance).  We inquired about other forms of payment (personal check, USPS postal money order) and he claimed that payment could only be made electronically.  Last week we got a call from another phone number, first declairng that they represented Reader's Solutions and the Publishers International for this same "subscription."
