Got call from this number and a guy said he was with the Rowan County Sheriff Department and they were needing information to serve me papers at my home or at my place of employment.  So they are now committing fraud themselves by saying they are with the Sheriff Department.  Come on.  Get real.  Why would your local sheriff department have a 877 number and have a lot of information from this number on the Web.  This is a SCAM...

I am very happy that I went with my first mind as to look up some information on this company. (The CRF Firm) after reviewing alot of the blogs regarding this company. It helped me to assess that this company was not only unprofessional certainly believed in violating FDCPA  regulations along with failing to reveal who the company was that the caller worked for she made it a point to announce the actual reason she was calling instead of just stating that it was a personal matter. I also had a problem with the fact that this company felt the need to contact a family member of mines as well then also let them know about this alleged debt. This company is something else...

Thank you everyone for your valuable input regarding this firm and I use the term loosely.

Been getting calls from this # for months now, at home, my cell, and at work. They always strat with the same thing, I need to call this # back and reference a case # to get my "formal statement". When you call the # back someone extremely rude answers and wants you to confirm all your personal information. (SS#, address, DOB, etc). When you get a second to interject the person always cuts me off and starts to hit me with rude comments and threatening jail time or sending a Sheriff to my job or home. The most recent caller then hung up and called my job right back and asked to speak with my DM by name. When I told him he just called me and gave me the same information he called me a dumb b**** and said, "enjoy your 9 months in jail." Really? I'm going to report them to my HR department as well as file a complaint with my local sheriff's department. If I do in fact owe a debt, send me something in the mail... do they really think I'm going to pay a random person over the phone just because they say so???

got a call from 8778846848; left VM for my name, stated there was a case of fraud that i was connected to & they need me to answer some??.  Caller stated his name was David Martin & that i needed to call him back @ 8778846848.   they are connected to VIP Cash (online payday loan outfit) that has been sending me texts from 77513 telling me that my credit limit has been increased & my interest rates have been lowered. Mr. Martin never identifies his company's name in the message, i believe VIP sold them my info after i put their loan & outrageous interest fees into a consolidation program

If they will not provide a debt validation letter MAILED to you, then you can be sure that they are scammers!  NEVER pay anyone who calls you and tells you that you owe money - always verify that you did indeed, incur the debt.  I would also call the original lender to make sure that they put your account out to collections - just because someone calls you dunning you for money does not mean that person is legitimate.

I had a message to call Victoria @ CRV 877-884-6848.  Did not say what it was in response to.  I did return the call.  Pushed 0 for representative. Victoria was not in.  I did not get the name of the man who answered. He asked me for my case number...I asked him what this was in regards to and what company CRF is?  He would not answer the question.  He told me he could look my case number up by my SS# or phone #.  I told him I would NOT give him my SS#. Gave phone number that the message was left on.  He could not find anything.  Again he asked for my SS#.  I told him I would not give that info and asked what it was in reference to?  He would not tell me.  I told him Victoria would have to call me back.  He told me she probably would get around to it in 6 mos. but He would probably see me in court before then, and then he hung up on me.  VERY unprofessional.  If this is a debt collector, I have absolutely no debt, nor have I or anyone in my household been turned over to any debt collectors.  We have zero debt and always have been debt free. I called him back and asked to speak to his supervisor. He told me he was the only one working and had too much crap to deal with than to play 20 questions with me and he hung up again.  I tried again to call back and get his name, this time he simply picked up and hung up.  I can't believe this is a legitimate company that they can deal with people in such a poor manner. I am going to research and report this company/phone number to police.

I took out a loan with VIP for $400.00 and paid them $379.  I realized the balance was not going down and they said I still owed $400.00.  I closed out my bank account.  Now these jokers are calling saying I owe $900.00.  I told them I would pay them no more than $300.00 and could pay bi-weekly payments of $50.00 each.  They refuse to take bi-weekly payments and now say they are going to verify employment.  Can they actually sue me since I still owe $21.00 on the original loan?

Consumers across the country report that they're getting telephone calls from people trying to collect on loans the consumers never received or on loans they did receive but for amounts they do not owe. Others are receiving calls from people seeking to recover on loans consumers received but where the creditors never authorized the callers to collect for them. So what's the story?

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:
Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.

Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.

Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.

Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.

Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.>

I have asked for something in writing, they have my address, but have not received anything as yet.  I have never received anything from them-you should have 30 days to dispute any debt.  My attorney advised me to get a physical address if possible, not a PO Box.  They are having alot of problems with people like this.  These people buy these debts and try to collect on them whether it was included in bankruptcy or not.  You should have 30 days to dispute, name of original creditor, etc.  They do not follow the law and try to intimidate people they are contacting.  My lawyer also advised me to change my phone number but they have called my daughter and may have called my employer.  I have been off work since June because of cancer so I do not know for sure.  This morning they called and left a message (from a Ashley Stern) and basically called me a liar about having an attorney.  I am still waiting for something in the mail!!!!  (It probably will not happen).

Legit collectors do not need to resort to fraudelent practices and will give you a mailing address, and usually you have received something in the mail from them.  They do have to give you time to dipute the debt in writing.  Plus, usually if legit collectors are told the debt was discharged in bankruptcy and you can prove it, they will stop trying to collect.  It is unlawful and they can be sued for more than the amount they are trying to collect.
