I received a call similar to u all stating one time chance or else charges being pressed against me. I sort of freaked. Called back talk to a 'diane' who gave me the number to global. Spoke to a matthew @ ext 332. We set up payment arrangements(like an idiot). $150 every 2 weeks. I'm believing this, yesterday I called to let them know I didn't have the money. Well he supposedly said he would work with me but had to have $50 for today. My wife told me to call state attorney generals office. Low & behold they were already under investigation and reported to the ftc. People I have been called by various places before with foregin accents but now have gotten smart by using our people against us. I got a call today from them and I informed them I knew they were a fraud. They told me I had an hour but guess what no I don't they have no right to do this. Folks I'm in debt like most of you but don't let these frauds harrass you. They have to notify you by mail and go thru all the channels proper channels. If they want a credit card they a scamming you. Trust me I lost $150 glad I didn't loose more.

I was worried at first trying to rack my brain as to wat this vm was all about. Since they called my father-in-laws phone not mine. So by reading the comments above from you all I now know they are debt collectors. Cause the vm sounded  like they were a law firm. hopefully they don't call back but I am sure they will.

So glad I found you all. Now I don't feel so alone. I got the same threatening messages on Thursday and Friday of this past week from a "Lisa Matthews". Sounds like they hit us all around the same times/days.

I called them back at the number they gave me, a guy answered and was reluctant to even tell me what company I had contacted. Then I informed him of my rights against harrassment from debt collectors and he asked me if I was an attorney. Then he said he has the right to call me all he wants and they have already located my home and work address then hung up on me. This was very upsetting and I am definitely reporting them.

The initial message from Melissa Gordon of the Dept. of Investigations, who suggested I contact the subject number, indicated I could call the "firm" handling the case and charges against me. The number is for Global, whose answering message for after hours calls was along the lines of "please leave a message and one of our clerks will return your call."

The use of the term "firm" and "clerk" suggest Global is a llaw firm. It is highly unlikely they are a law firm and are therefore guilty of impersonating a lawyer and practicing law without a license, not too mention the numerous violations of the FDCPA.

I suggest all of us who have received such calls contact the CA Attorney General and the federal AG to report criminal activity by the Dept. of Investigations and Global, in addition to the FTC.

Thr same thing happened to me yesterday the exact same way for a debt that was filed under bankruptcy that they are trying to make me repay from six years ago.

I got the same call today. The VM stated I "have been officially notified." Too bad for them. Official notification has to be sent via mail, not VM. What glittering jewels of colossal ignorance!

Received a call today from a local number claiming to be a contractor that would serve me papers within 24-48 hours and provided the number as well as a case number.  When I called the local number back, it went straight to a voicemail that it was from the "Investigations Department" and the mailbox would not take messages.

Spoke with "Global" and one of their reps.  I don't dispute the debt in question but had not received anything on the debt in several years.  The rep told me they were a "mediation service" that could stop "pre-litigation" so long as they got money today.  They removed their "locator fee" of $200 since I had contacted them... a fee that was pretty bogus.  I did set up payments with them, but was a touch suspicious shortly following.

Contacted FTC - the rep I spoke with there suggested that this may be a violation of the FDCPA.  I called "Global" back, requested their physical address so I could investigate further, and was rebuffed.  Spoke with the rep and informed him that I was concerned under the FDCPA and would not pay them until I had something in writing.  He continued to iterate that I was at risk for receiving the "documents" - but never fully elaborated on what they were.  I advised him that if he wanted to contact the creditor I would be more than happy to speak with the creditor, Check-N-Go, to work towards resolution of the matter.  After a final statement warning me that I would be at risk to receive the "documents", I let him know to send those documents and my lawyer and I would gladly review them.

For a $400 debt, which I would be glad to pay off if this company gave me something physical and abided by the FDCPA, they are running a hefty risk because it's a $1,000 penalty per incident under the FDCPA.

This happened to me too! They called me yestereday stating that charges were being brought against me for fraud and the only way to stop it would be to pay them right then. The process server called me several times at my job saying that if I didn't call the 877-919-9386 number and pay them then he and his partner would come to my job and he insisted that he needed to speak to my supervisor about this as well. This scared the S*** out of me at first so I called the number and spoke to a supposed supervisor by the name of Brittany D. who said that she would call off the process servers if I gave her my credit card number to hold payment until my payday. I told her I would call her the following morning and I havent' called back. I just got another call from her saying that she has been waiting for me to call back now I am in the avoiding my phone calls phase of this harrassment. WHAT NEXT???, these people are crazy!!!

I just got a message on my cell that I had one opportunity to call the 877-919-9386 number to try to clear the charges against my name.  I have been harrassed by scammers before and did not answer the telephone when they called.  I'm so tired of these people - how do they sleep at night knowing that they deliberately take advantage of innocent people?

I think you meant that you called the creditor, since you were the debtor.

They had a "process server" call me and notify me by phone that I was being served paperwork and that to get more information I had to call "Global" at 877-919-9386. He actually tried to tell me verbally over the phone that i have been "served". I dont think so.
The information they came up with was for an old debt that was settled and paid years ago. They said the only way I could avoid going to court and being served today was to pay them the amount of the debt plus a $200 locator charge. Funny I can find my information on the Internet for free.
Anyway, I called them back a few minutes later, told them I have proof that this debt was paid and if they attempt to take me to court I will be filing harassment charges right back at them.

I even called the debtor and verified this was paid in 2010.
