No one gets a heads up they'll be served - the process server just shows up, unannounced.  Your callers are scammers, period.  If they were going to sue you, then they'd already have all your information.  They also would have sent you multiple letters attempting to get you to pay, and if those failed, you'd see the process server.  Per the FDCPA, you should NOT pay any caller who refuses to mail a debt validation letter showing that you do owe a debt and that your caller has the legal right to collect said debt.  Refusal to mail - do not accept email or fax - this DV letter within five days of their first call is a violation of federal law.  More on this type of scam here:

typical scare tactics... I got same message. Think about ...why would a "claimant" have a 877 number?? Thats your first signal the whole thing is not necassarily a scam but away for that collection agency to call them... You think your calling claimant...and your actually calling collection agency. Funny thing is...I have received hundreds of calls from different numbers and different area codes... they work hard at trying to contact you and hide identity...but I haven't received anything in mail. Once I see something in mail...I will react...phone calls...if i don't recognize number...never answer.

Debt Collector
Just received a similar call or I suppose calls as its on a cell phone rarely used. Received calls from this number many times but no message ever left in the past and by the way my number is registered on the "do not call" anyway they claim  to serve me with papers by 5pm tomorrow..  Recommended I make myself available between the hours of 3-5 for the serving.  Yes, also called from a local number and left the (877) number to call them back.  I do have old credit card debt but have been unable to pay as I have worked very little (temp jobs) since 2008 when I was laid off.  This debt is from this time and I have not used a credit card since 2007.  Does anyone get served with these "official documents?"

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the nation's consumer protection agency, is warning consumers to be on the alert for scam artists posing as debt collectors. It may be hard to tell the difference between a legitimate debt collector and a fake one. Sometimes a fake collector may even have some of your personal information, like a bank account number. A caller may be a fake debt collector if he:

?is seeking payment on a debt for a loan you do not recognize;
?refuses to give you a mailing address or phone number;
?asks you for personal financial or sensitive information; or
?exerts high pressure to try to scare you into paying, such as threatening to have you arrested or to report you to a law enforcement agency.

If you think that a caller may be a fake debt collector:

?Ask the caller for his name, company, street address, and telephone number. Tell the caller that you refuse to discuss any debt until you get a written "validation notice." The notice must include the amount of the debt, the name of the creditor you owe, and your rights under the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
If a caller refuses to give you all of this information, do not pay! Paying a fake debt collector will not always make them go away. They may make up another debt to try to get more money from you.?Stop speaking with the caller. If you have the caller's address, send a letter demanding that the caller stop contacting you, and keep a copy for your files. By law, real debt collectors must stop calling you if you ask them to in writing.
?Do not give the caller personal financial or other sensitive information. Never give out or confirm personal financial or other sensitive information like your bank account, credit card, or Social Security number unless you know whom you're dealing with. Scam artists, like fake debt collectors, can use your information to commit identity theft ? charging your existing credit cards, opening new credit card, checking, or savings accounts, writing fraudulent checks, or taking out loans in your name.
?Contact your creditor. If the debt is legitimate ? but you think the collector may not be ? contact your creditor about the calls. Share the information you have about the suspicious calls and find out who, if anyone, the creditor has authorized to collect the debt.
?Report the call. Contact the FTC and your state Attorney General's office with information about suspicious callers. Many states have their own debt collection laws in addition to the federal FDCPA. Your Attorney General's office can help you determine your rights under your state's law.

I received the same type of message as everyone here has written about.  If the papers are for me, I wonder why there were not sent certified mail to me instead of being delivered to this persons office.  He says if I don't call to claim the package that he would tell the lawyers on me and the he would bring the package to my door personally by 5 on Thursday.

The first person left his name as Eric Lowery...When I called the 877# it was Matthew who I was supposed to leave a message for.  Tactic was the same...papers to be delivered by Friday at 5 pm. Did anyone actually ever receive papers?

I just got a call from a blocked number.  Message left said he was Michael (couldn't get the last name).  Said he was going to be here tomorrow at 5:00 for me to sign papers and this is an attempt to collect a debt.  Called the number he gave me in the message and spoke to someone named Chris who transferred me to someone named Matthew who threatened me, called me names and was in general rude. Kept asking for my email address and home address and number so he could send me documentation explaining what the guy supposedly showing up here tomorrow is bringing.  I told him nothing and hung up on him.  I did get out of him that he was representing Care Credit (GE Bank).  I called them. I do owe them a debt, but I don't think this is how they would go about suing someone for payment.  I think this is a collection agency hell bent on scaring the crap out of someone. He threatened to come to my home or where I work. Told him if he shows up at work I lose my job, NO ONE GETS PAID.  He laughed and said that was my problem.  Told him if he has the address just MAIL the papers, he said he can't do that.  I'm calling the attorney general's office.  I know it's technically not a scam, but this guy is abusive.  I don't think he's allowed to threaten people.

Same guy, same number, same thing happened to me. This is regarding a debt collection. I ended up answering the phone and told them to go ahead and send it. They're full of bs and just trying to scare people. This is for an expired $200 debt from a Gap credit card. I doubt they even know where I live. I think this approach is totally scummy.

This person called from this number the other day and stated he had legal papers to be delivered to my home on Thursday at 5:00pm.
He called again today and stated that he would be at my house at 5:00 for me to sign for my legal papers and to have my license ready for identification. If I needed to change the time of my delivery to just call back and we could reschedule.
If there are legal papers to be received, aren't they usually delivered by the police or constable not a licensed legal currier? and do they really make arrangements for delivery.
Just wondering does anyone know anything about this number and
license legal currier? James Loomis/
