Hello, I just received a call from 1-716-206-3218 and they left a message when I answered the phone saying to call back by the end of the business day and I just looked up this on the website and I decided to call the 1-716-206-3218 and it was disconnected......

This is a legit number but there are scam artists using caller id generators to imitate this number. If they are rude, press for money, or threaten then its a scam. If they simply want to speak to you about an unresolved tax issue like unfiled taxes then its probably legit. I will call on Monday to confirm this but I have found several posts on various websites where others have already called the numbers on IRS.GOV to verify.

You can go to the contact us page on the IRS site, which is http://www.irs.gov/, then go to the contact us page, http://www.irs.gov/uac/How-to-Contact-the-IRS-1, then to http://www.irs.gov/uac/Contact-Your-Local-IRS-Office-1 in which a state locator will come up, and you can click either on the state or use the state name list below that to locate a local phone number and info.

I received a call the last two days from 925-732-4141.  Yesterday, they did not leave a message.  Today a woman's voice instructed that I HAD TO CALL BACK TODAY or action would be taken.  It may have been a robo call, because after the message, a different voice gave me my case number.  I was instructed to call back between 9 am and 8 pm. Number given was 877-968-3413.  Location was Antioch, CA.

They did not identify who they were calling with.

I am currently working with the IRS, so I will check with the agent I am working with and post back what he says.

Don't call 1-877-968-3413 scam!  The caller I'd comes up IRS but it's not!!!  Call that number back and it is not in service 716-206-3218.  They tell you to call back the 1-877-968-3414 number from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00p.m.--don't do it!

This is not a scam number! Though the woman on the phone told me it was a mistake after I gave her my info. I call the IRS from one of their numbers listed on their official web site and they looked up the employee as well as the notes that they had put on my file.

Just happened.. would not give my personal information in exception of my name.  They stated it was an error.  I also think this is a scam and will be contacting the IRS to report.

Went to IRS.GOV and got a phone number 800-829-7650 and called them.  Waited on hold for 20 minutes and got a person.  Gave a summary of the issue (my wife responded to this IRS call), and gave them the 1-877-968-3413 number and they confirmed that that is indeed a legit IRS number and they WILL ask for SS and personal info to confirm identity.  I then called a different IRS number and got another agent and got the same info.  So........  It's not a scam and only a little bit of effort will allow anyone to determine this.  Both agents I spoke to were aware of the scam.  Simply look up the IRS general info numbers on the internet (or phone book) and give them a call, they will confirm the number (877) as theirs.  Also, they call when you're late on filing a tax return (we are) and will identify themselves as the IRS.

I just got a call from the same place!  But I spoke to "wally" who tried to press me for the last 5 digits of my Social, when I asked him to tell me what my name is, my address and where I work, he started to yell and scream.  He preceided to tell me he was a "FEDERAL AGENT" and if I did not verify who I was at once he would issue a garnishment to my pay check.  Wally was a flavor of indian,,, do not go for it.  I have had dealings with the IRS and they first of all will not and do not call.  At one time I had a Federal outstamding debt of $28,000.00 and the NEVER, NEVER, NEVER once called me!   Plus, they are trained to be polite, why not, its the goverment!

SCAM..SCAM..SCAM...Received a call from 716-206-3218 showing IRS under called ID.  Message left to call back 1-877-968-3413 by the end of the business day with a case reference number.  We knew this was a scam, but I called back the 716-206-3218, and shockingly the number was "DISCONNECTED".  However, when I called 1-877-968-3413, Ms. Stevens with ID#0181767 starting asking me for my social security number!!!  She was VERY persistent and explained that she was located in Austin, TX and needed to resolve a collection matter from the IRS.  I instructed her send out a letter in the mail and that she would not get any information over the phone!! DO NOT FALL FOR THIS CRAP!!!

I was left a message to call this number stating they were the IRS and to call before end of business day and left a case number.  I have not called back, and my I filed my taxes the end of January.  They called from 716-206-3218.  This number is not showing on IRS website as one of there contact numbers either.

I received a call from this number and said they were the Irs. Asked me for my personal information because they said there was a problem with my taxes? I spine to someone named Mr. ubarra. This is a scam number.
