10-10-11 I just received the same call today...I accidentally erased the numbers on my phone.  The caller told me he had to meet me right now because I have to appear in court over a bad check that I wrote to a financial institution.  I hung up on him and he called back and l left a message which I also deleted.. Didn't give it much thought until my roommate suggested I google it...I don't write checks, don't even have checks for my accounts.

I applied for a payday loan, but never got it.
I have been getting calls regarding this loan and just 15 minutes ago, a man named, "Chris Williams" whom identified himself as an "Officer" of the "Cyber Crime Unit" in New York.

I asked his phone number and he gave me 315-833-9261.

I asked what agency he was from and he told me "Cyber Crime Unit" and that the FBI would be at my house in 2 hours. I asked him to supply the address where he is calling from and he would not answer that question. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he said the FBI would be there soon.
He told me I am being indicted for 3 counts of cyber crime regarding something about a payday loan. His accent was not very good so I could not hear what he said.

I've received NUMEROUS calls over the course of a year or so. I always pretend I am someone else and say "she's not in right now" because I know it's the same person. Always with a thick foreign accent. Perhaps Indian. Always threatening that I am going to be arrested or going to court tomorrow etc. I have tried calling back a couple of times with the number they give me but it's always a disconnected number.

Once when I did identify myself, when I asked what it was in regards to all he did was harass me more and tell me i had to pay him thousands of dollars right then. Wouldn't even give me the name of the original debtor. (If there was one.)

Always says the same thing in voice mail msgs to my work and cell phone: ..."now Donna, if you or your attorney of reference do not call by tomorrow a.m. I have no recourse other than to have authorities come to your place of business and arrest you. " he goes on and on with the EXACT wording every single time. Like he's reading from a script. Says a few other key words that I know it's the same person. However, every single time he leaves a different number AND his name changes. I've had "Daniel Scott" "Tom Miller" "George Taylor" and several other names but it's always the same script he reads.

He always ends with this comment "I wish you good luck for the future."

said that there was a claim against my about my payday loan which has now been paid in full.  Everytime this guy calls it's from a different number.  My husbands phone number is no where on my loan application but he somehow got it and has been harrassing him.  I have spoken to the loan company and they state there is not a case against me.  We are going to change our phone numbers tomorrow.

That's funny I got the same phone call saying I am eligible for a goverment grant for $6000 that I would never have to pay back in my whole life.  I told that idiot to quit calling me I know you are a SCAM you can't even talk right and slammed the phone down.  BIG TIME SCAMMERS I am on the do not call list so don't know why they don't know that.

Guy called me and said he was from the Gov't grants dept and that I had $5000 grant coming to me, and that I could have that money today. He had an Indian accent, his name was Steve Gilbert, and gave me a number to call. (609)534-2977 . When I called that number, the lady who answered obviously wasn't with Gov't grants department.

These people have called me many times, at work, etc... they have my social, address. etc... One more call, and im sueing... They are saying I have to be in court monday.. LOL, they wont give me the county, judge's name, or room number... SCAM!!!!!!!!

Just called me saying he needs my attorneys name because I'm suppose to appear in court tomorrow about  check fraud,  and that I got cash deposited into my bank from some place called Cash Net. He had the last 4 digits of my SS#  I said I dont know anything about it,  I said hold on let me get a pen and he hung up. What the heck is that all about.

This is like the 4th number the same people are calling me from.  I am really really tired of the harrassing and threatening calls.  I have blocked them but I am sure they will find another number to call from.  When will they stop.  What can I do about it?

This is definitely a scam because it's illegal to threaten arrest over civil debt. The Better Business Bureau has released many alerts on this scam, google "bbb.org alert phony debt collector"  Scams mutate so read all the alerts to get a flavor of what they are. You can buy a whistle or air horn and blow their ears off and file complaints with the Internet Crime Complaint Center http://www.ic3.gov/complaint/default.aspx , the Federal Communications Commission http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm and your state AG.

The #     878-877-1411 calls my cell phone persistantly, a man with a strong Indian accent says he is from a law firm and that if I don't call the # back they will send a deputy to my work or residence to arrest me.  Also the same man called and said he was from my state's local sheriff's department.  I do not give them any info, I hust hang up,  I have reported them to the Federal Trade Commission.  What else can I do?

Unwanted calls saying they are with knight law firm.  I informed them to not call me again and they asked why?  Very persistant scammers.  Don't give them any information

Interesting. I had an issue with T-Mobile and I finally had to get the Attorney General involved. Now this number is calling the two people I listed as references when I signed up with T-Mobile, leaving messages for me about a "legal matter". Maybe time to get the Attorney General involved again!

In the last week I have received 3 calls from people around the USA who, like you, said they were called by someone claiming to be with my law firm. These are lies. I am a corporate lawyer in Miami/Coral Gables. Nobody from my law firm called you or these other people. I have been investigating but have been unable to determine thusfar who has been making the calls.

Got a call from "knight law firm". I asked where they were from and he said "florida". I asked for and address and all he would do is put me on hold (2 mins) and I hung up. More to come ...

Claimed to be from Microsoft, said my computer had a virus.
