Missing the point folks - NEVER give out personal information on a phone call YOU did not make. It's the bank calling? Call them from the phone book, back of credit card,or bank statement. Correct, incoming calls can be spoofed. If they call, just tell them you'll have to call them back. If they say they'll call back later, reel in the red flags.

I don't know who is so set on making us think this is a fake number, but it's right there on the CitiBank site:
https://online.citibank.com/US/JRS/pands/detail.do?ID=AOApplicationStatus

Now, it is possible that someone is spoofing this number on the Caller ID info, but why would I only start getting calls from this number after applying for a card? Bottom line: They should already have your info if they're legit. Don't give out enough info to allow identity theft.

I'm sure you are right.  This is CitiBank.

I applied for their new American Express Mastercard through Citi Bank a couple of days ago and gave them my phone number.  I also told them they did not have permission to call me to try to sell me products, etc. and they said it would only be used in the case of an emergency.  Just got a robo call from 888 201-4523 and hung up immediately without replying.  Gotta be Citi!

Part of a fraud campaign targeting numerous financial institutions.  Note the pattern of shill postings all claiming the number is real - an obvious giveaway.

The large number of phony posts claiming the call is real come from some con artists spamming the site to try to fool people.  There is a similar pattern to other fake calls claiming to be from Chase, Citibank, Bank of America, US Bank, Wells Fargo, RBC, PayPal, etc. all with the same shill postings:

It is Citi Cards.
I applied for a credit card last night and called in to expedite the approval process. I was asked if I would like to add my phone number to my account. I asked what it would be used for. The associate told me that it would only be used for emergency contact information in the case of suspicious activity. I must have asked in at least three different ways if it would be used for anything else, especially advertising. I was reassured that no such calls would be made...well, I've received two calls so far today. I called Citi to ask them about the calls and was told that they were about my approval. They were calling to let me know that I was approved. I told the representative that I already knew I was approved since I had called last night. The representative then told me that I may receive calls in the future, because "they" do not have any control over the automated calling. Really?! I then inquired about the fact that I was even receiving calls since they were not emergencies. I explained what the representative had said to me over the phone the night before, and I was told that not all the necessary information had been shared with me. So, I asked if I could then remove my phone number from my account. I was then told that the information is now locked and unremovable.

I've been getting three calls a day on my cell, every day from this number.  Same type of information as others have commented.  I have never dealt with Citibank or need to.  I want this to stop. They keep leaving a voice mail for me to call them at certain hours.  What a nuisance!  Reverse look-up says it is a toll-free number.  That doesn't help me!

It is Citibank.  I went to Citbank.com and navigated to this site    https://online.citibank.com/US/JRS/portal/contactus.do?ID=ContactUsCards where you can see this number.  I am extra cautious, as my personal information has been used fraudulently.

Good luck!

DONT FRET!!!! It is a real number. It is Citibank. I just applied for a secured credit card and I have been calling them everyday. I just missed a call and called back. I got approved. I dont know  what the guy is talking about with the FBI. If you got to Citibank website under secure credit cards, you will see the number there. The system does ask for you SSN and bday etc to track you. If you dont have Citibank account or havent applied for a credit card with them, then dont enter anything. It is as simply as that.

I am guessing it is legit. It only asked me for my Zip Code. I wasn't going to give them the last four of SS. I did apply for a card last week. So I bet its fine. It said i had a new credit card limit of $1300. If it was a scam I think it would say much much more than just $1300. Continue to be cautious out there, but unless you KNOW you haven't applied for a card, or want a card just ignore it or you can answer it and it will ask you if you are "JOE Smith, press 1, if you are not press 2". Just answer and press two and it will say sorry for the inconvenience.

Received a call from CitiBank (888-201-4523) from Maggie in So. Dakota requesting we call to verify some information. We're in Connecticut and have had a mortgage modification application pending for the last year and a half. When we called someone, India sounding, answered.
We're dealing with CitiMortgage, not CitiBank. The only in we got was that our application was being processed--duh.
Never got Maggie.

It is Citi Cards but they are calling to tell you that you have been approved.  It's super annoying to because they keep calling till you pick up!  Even though I have already gotten email and snail mail from them and the person who helped me online verified that I was approved.  So annoying!  I hope this is not foreshadowing of how it will be to have a card from them.
