received a call from I.R.S. Incorporated today.  I dealt with a Ms. Smith.  She was calling regarding an old payday loan (East Side Lenders) that I had out several years ago.  She was VERY PLEASANT to deal with.  I informed her I know this was paid off.  She made me aware that there are certain circumstances to where people believe they have paid off a payday loan, but in actuality, all you did was pay the fees and nothing on the balance.  She did inform me there was a pending civil matter (because this is an attorney's office), but since I stated it was paid for, she is going to send me paper work, I will contact my prior bank, etc.  I am a real person...I don't work for the company or anything else (I've read where some people like to put "Nice FAKE post").  I go to a Mon-Fri job 8 to 4:30 everyday.  If this company is calling you, talk to them.  I even let her know to please not call my office anymore, but to call my cell.  She was more than understanding and agreeable (because she knows once I ask her to stop calling my job, she has to).  If you are speaking to someone at this company who is hateful, then ask for Ms. Melissa Smith.

Told me it was "Income Recovery Systems"  or IRS. Thats a pretty lame stratagey. Usining IRS to scare you into calling. Anyhow, It looks like it's a "Pay Day Loan" collection group, there was an ad on craigslist that came up when i googled the number. ***Pay Day Loan Collecters NEEDED!!!***  with the 888-228-7519 number as the contact number.

Alabama, my bet is that you will NEVER receive that "summons".  They are trying to illegally collect a debt that doesn't exist anymore.  Don't sweat it.  Other than the inconvenience of hearing the phone ring and/or the message on the machine, you're fine.

People, this is just one of MANY bottom feeder "collection" agencies attempting to collect on debts that are either non-existent or out of statute of limitations.  That is COMPLETELY illegal!!!!!!  One of them just called me, trying to collect on a debt that was PAID OFF in early 2001!!!!!!!  2001!!!!!  I remember it well because I was very young and I couldn't get phone service until I paid off the debt.  ALMOST 10 YEARS AGO!!!!!  If anything, hang up on them, record the phone number and report them to the FTC.  Link is below:

No, see my post (Oregon 17 Jun 2009) and my follow up to it a few hours ago, as well as my post today for phone number 888-729-4798 for a company called ACH. I think these companies are either using public records, or more likely, paying for lists of debts that real debt collectors have written off, in order to extort money from people. Even better, it seems that people from the companies get on these boards and make posts ("I called these guys and we worked it out" or "I ignored them & now I'm going to court/wages getting garnished" or "forgot about the debt" etc.) to make the company sound more legit. But nine months ago they threatened taking me to court and I have yet to receive a summons/registered letter, etc. so I'm thinking it's a Scam-O-Rama. Glad I didn't give them any money...

Melissa, did you even read this post or are you just a frakking moron. "I did have a payday loan out yrs ago, BUT HAVE SINCE PAID IT OFF." (emphasis mine) I don't know if you just don't grasp English, but "paid it off" means paid it back.

Amy & Nick: go FRAK yourselves. The people who know they owe a debt aren't complaining. I AM going to pay back my debt and I'm NOT complaining. The people that are complaining about getting harassing calls are complaining legitimately because these companies have information that does not correspond to them and they are using unethical and illegal means to extort money from people who don't owe anything. Read their posts. People who say they know they owe a debt are not complaining (and apparently some people believe people who post things like  "I called these guys and we worked it out" or "I ignored them & now I'm going to court/wages getting garnished" or "I forgot about the debt" are fake posters. People who work for these companies and are making these posts to try to make the company sound more legit. Seems like a stretch, but it also wouldn't surprise me.) Anyway...

Update: I just got off the phone with my dad. A "James Collins" called (dad's girlfriend's landline, I think) with the same case number as back in June '09 (which leads me to believe it's still w/"IRS") but with a call back number of 888-729-4798 (which brings up a company called ACH on these boards, so I dunno.) Anyway, I'm not going to call them back. I'm going to try to get a hold of Advance America directly to pay back my loan. (I sent them an email when this first started, but they never emailed me back.) The interesting thing is, even though "Travis Rogers" basically said he was going to file in county court (9 months ago,) I never got a summons/registered letter, etc. which leads me to believe they have very little real power except the power people give them by giving them money. So to "collectors-r-criminals" I ask "Then what should one do?" You're claiming any post that's in the vein of "I called these guys and we worked it out" or "I ignored them & now I'm going to court/wages getting garnished" is fake. Well, I'm basically asking the same last two questions from my original post. C-r-c what would you do if you were in my situation (I think I can safely bet that you would NOT settle through "IRS" or "ACH" or any other 3rd party company like this, but do you think I will get any traction trying to go directly through Advance America?) Lamet, feel free to add your opinion too. Thanks...

What little I could find on this so called Collection Agency - no directory listing etc is from a job posting.

They claim to be located in Amherst NY - WHICH IS GREAT - because the NEW YORK Attorney General is really going after the ILLEGAL DEBT COLLECTORS IN NY

REPORT THEM ASAP TO  this SPECIAL Link  www.NYDebtHelp.com

reporting their illegal collection activities is the ONLY WAY TO SHUT THEM DOWN

This is NOT a discussion as to whether or not we should "pay our debts".

This is about consumers' rights regarding the collection of debts.

Claiming to be from the District Attorny's office is ILLEGAL.   They KNOW they do not have legitimate debt - so are attempting to use ILLEGAL scare tactics.

Here is a case where you have the receipts and can prove it was paid - but they refuse to stop trying to STEAL MONEY they are not entitled to.

Received a call from Mrs. Howard, assistant to the district attorney for I.R.S., stating that I owed a debt for a payday loan company from five years ago. I have paid this debt and have all the receipts and told her that I no longer owe it. I asked her if she could mail a statement to me (4 requests) I still have not received anything in the mail yet. She tried to fax something to me, but I told her I did not have a fax. I contacted the original loan company and they show me as "paid" in their files. I explained all of this to Mrs. Howard, as well as dates and amounts that I paid off the debt. She continues to call me, threatening me with a summons to appear in court. I have called her several times in the last week and the number is constantly busy.

This Co. called my elderly mother today and scared her to death. Something about how they have my social security number, and the name of a bank that I used to do business with.  This was all concerning a "bad check", and I have no recollection of ever having a "bad check" that was not taken care of in a timely manner. It was a Jim or John Douglas and he gave an extension number of 204.  This sounds like a scam to me, and I have no intention of giving these people the time of day.

This company just called my mother-in-law in Oklahoma and told her that I was facing criminal charges. Never mentioned anything about debt. I do have some very old payday loans that I haven't been able to pay back but it was long before I was married. So, how they got her number, I have no idea. I'm really pissed off at this point.

called me today asking for someone i know but who doesn't currently, nor ever has lived in my house. I refused to take a message saying i am not responsible. i was threatened with legal action if i didn't...i still said no...they also said the person i know is facing civil and criminal charges to which i responded that they can't because they of the FDCPA. they told me they are not a third party collector because they had bought it from ***** creditor. they broke the law and don't think they're able to be held accountable...guess who i'm about to call? the FTC...to report them and their violation...

i wouldn't have bothered had they not threatened to waste my time with something they cannot do in the first place...

I am having trouble with this number 1-888-228-7519 this is not a real number this is a fake number. This had happened today around 3:30am and they want me to call them back tomorrow and I will not call them so if you all have been getting calls likes this then do not answer the phone or have your number changed to a non-published number they are out to get your money out of your account and wipe you clean.

Yes its amazing how all the FAKE posts have "I forgot all about this debt"
and "they were nice and helpful" BS

It just makes it easy to spot the FAKE POSTS..

ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO FORGET ABOUT A DEBT - the original creditor would have been calling MONTHS BEFORE it ever went to a collection agency.

ALSO THE BIGGEST FDCPA VIOLATORS ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO HAVE EMPLOYEES CHECKING COMPLAINT BOARDS! the fake posts are nothing but lies to cover up those violations
