They're not bill collectors they're loan counselors.  The way they explained it to me was they were the guarantor and they were just letting me know my options since I was having a hard time making my payments. Actually very helpful and didn't ask for any money!

Just got the call asking for a co-worker. Must have happened over the weekend.

I received an email from ECMC today and looked into it. They are a legitimate student l;oan collection agency. If you have your FASFA pin number you can check out your student loans at http://www.nslds.ed.gov/nslds_SA/

This federal web site will show the details of your loan(s) including the Current Guaranty Agency. In my case its ECMC.

They keep calling my poor parents even after my parents told them they have the wrong number and asked them to remove them from the calling list. After doing some investigation the person I think they want has a phone number with one digit different from my parents. Still how do you get them to stop.

If I'm late on my loans I usually get a call from my student loan provider.  I made a payment today and now got a call from (804) 267-7180 and they left an automated message with a callback number of (888) 295-1121.  They did not identify what company they were with and only said they were calling me about a business transaction.  An internet search brought up ECMC default prevention.  They're a guarantor of FFEL loans.  Probably calling because I'm still past due.  They can go scratch.  If I talk to anyone, it will be exclusively with my student loan provider.

IF you have student loans - CALL THE LOAN PROVIDER FIRST.  

Never assume they are a legitimate debt collection - they are a lot of scams out there.
