I know I just posted, but I forgot to add that I did uncheck the box to further my education, I already finished college, so as a previous poster said, whether or not you uncheck it, you still get calls.

I got a call from 888-473-7095 right after applying for a job online....any of these sites online that ask about your education, as in if you are currently enrolled in something or wish to further your education...your information is given to these places.  They are never schools or outfits anyone has heard of.  I suspect it's a scam for money.

I think it might have to do when you apply to jobs online. For some reason they have a part that ask if you would like to further your education, I think no matter if you click yes or no they contact you. Its annoying

This number called me today and left a message. Since it was an unknown number to me, I checked here first. Once I found out what they were, I called them. I wanted to tell them that they were too late. I have 3 more courses before I receive my Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from DeVry. I will finish school by November of this year.

i received this call after applying to a reputable job (i dont recall which one since i've applied to so many at this point) via careerbuilder.com telling me i requested info about continuing my education - i never did this. NES staffing (Nationwide Employment Services) contacted me via email stating they created an account for me. later on hr-interviews emailed me asking me to authorize a background check and credit check ... THIS IS A SCAM so if anybody has gotten any part of this DO NOT reply and make sure you remove yourself from email lists and contact careerbuilder.com or whichever site a job from this company was listed on

All,

You are sorely mistaken! This is a GREAT service that helps many people every day. They are NOT telemarketers. They are not trying to sell anything. If you listened to them and found schools to better educate yourself you would know that. The Advisors are here for you. They help YOU! There are good people still out there and this place is full of them.

I mean, of the 50 or so people who complain about being "bothered" another 5000 are helped, in the times when they most need it. If you ask me, the occasional "bothersome" phone call is a very fair trade off for the sheer number of people they help every day.

LOL, wow lots of rediculous comments!
I hate tele marketers, but I know that it IS their job and that if I am stupid enough to fill something out, it's my fault. I was hit on a job site. It was well hidden, but auto marked for me. I do not need their services, but just goes to show that you have to doubble check EVERY thing you fill out online! I feel sorry that they pay to get my info and I don't need their help. Who is the sucker now?!
These places need to come up with better ways to get info and stop wating their money on crappy leads like all of us!
I just looked up the number to find out who the missed call was from, so once I read all this, I just had to comment:)

recvd call from these people about further my academic career... i filled out online applications for JOBS and specifically made sure to check the "no thanks" or "not interested" on each and every application. this is either from career builder or jobs.com those are the only two who had these ads inserted into their LONG applications. what a crock. i won't use them again.

I responded to a job ad on Craigslist - I'm very leery of scams but this sounded like a real job- shipping/receiving clerk- everything looked legit, including the email address to contact.  So, I gussied up my resume and wrote a really good cover letter and sent it to the contact email.  I immediately got a response directing me to the online application.  As soon as I put in my personal information I was told that, according to a recent survey, 80 percent of employers preferred employees who were continuing their education - then I got three choices- none of which applied to me but I couldn't get past the page unless I picked one.  I should have stopped there because I figured it was a scam, but I picked a choice and the next page was from ITT Tech.  So, no job - just a scam to get my information.

Then a little later I got a phone message from Academic Advising Center.  I called them back and told them all this and they said that they just found out and were not going to get their information from this source anymore.  They buy this information.  Now I get on here and see that this IS the way they do business and have been doing business for quite a while.  So, the guy on the phone lied to me too.

For those of you that are defending them- you must work for them.  How would you feel if you had been out of work for 6 months, couldn't find a decent job and all of sudden a real opportunity appears - you spend an hour getting your resume tuned up and writing a targeted cover letter- then you find out it is all a scam.

I'm sorry but a business that has to lie and deceive people in order to get customers is NOT a business I want to deal with nor would I work for them.  This is one of the things that is wrong with the world today- we excuse this because they are just trying to make money.  But, it's wrong!  There will be a huge backlash against this way of doing business - I hope it's soon.

Just got a call from Leah at the Academic Advising Center right after posting my resume on NES Staffing Solutions. There was no option to check for wanting info on how to further my education. I thought that this was a real staffing agency. Apparently, I should have done my research. She said that I had said that I wanted to go back to school. I stated that I am planning on it; however, was not sure how she she knows that. She then gave me some websites that I have already used (I have a degree, so I have used FASFA). She also asked what program I wanted to do, and I stated a doctorial program for occupational therapy. She said that she knows of a great school called Argosy, which has that program. She said that she would send me information. She then asked for my birthdate, which I only gave her day and month, no year. She gave me her number as 888-473-7095. After hanging up, I went on Argosy's website and the American Occupational Association's website and Argosy does not have a program.

You get a lot of junk--calls and spam-- when you apply for jobs on the boards, but if you want to apply for that job, what else can you do?  In my field, many of the jobs aren't posted on the company website, they are given to recruiters and they are out on the boards.  I guess unemployment is good for the spammers/scammers.

They got my number off my online resume.  I have a bachelor and masters degree and have not shown interest in furthering my education or contacted any such advising center.  This is a sales person or recruiter trying to interest you in attending college.  The return number they gave was 888-473-7095 but my caller id showed they called from 877-789-9861.  I called them and told them I knew how they got my number and that I am not interested in talking to anyone about furthering my education and matching me with a college and politely asked them to add me to their DNC (do not call) list.  The lady on the other end of the phone pulled my info using my telephone number, asked if I was Rose, and said she has now added me to the DNC list.

Applied for the same job posting in Peoria. When I tried to submit my application it said my phone number could not be verified. I was trying to get a number to call the customer service area and couldn't find one. Not more than 5 minutes later I got a call from someone pitching schools to me. Even though I already have a degree. Rediculous.

F all of you that are defending these @ssholes.  This company did not get my information from me "filling out" stuff, but from applying for what was apparently a fake job.  Why don't you guys f off if you don't know what you are talking about.  This company deserves all the hate one can give them.  They have called me over 12 times in the past 24 hours.  This is after 5 times I have told them to take me off their freaking calling list.  If you applied to a company V.A.C.S, THEY ARE A SCAM.

I have been duped as well. I came across advertisements in the classified section of a certain paper, submitted my resume, and then got cryptic phone calls from someone saying he was forwarding my resume onto a "supervisor" and that person would get back to me. IS THIS A SCAM??
They also asked me if I wanted to continue school. I have 2 degrees, and they are listed on my resume. I received emails confirming that my resume was sent, and then a message stating someone would be calling me at noon this week.
I am here because I wanted to see if anyone else was having these problems. How do you know if a job site is legit???

...also, I think "The Man Who Knows Everything" should consider a career in self-deception. You are obviously a fake yourself, and anyone who claims to know it all is probably about as evolved as a primordial lump of goop. Just a thought. Not trying to discredit honest, hard-working lumps of goop. :)
