HEY Everybody: If you do not have this feature with your phone company...CALL AND GET IT!! Its called CALL BLOCKER. Add the number and that number is blocked. That would not prevent them from calling on another number though and then you will have to block it as well. Usually the phone company's CALL BLOCKER service allows up to 12 numbers to be blocked some telephone company's allow 25 numbers to be blocked. Check with your local service provider. It gives peace of mind, believe me!

You've started calling for the money owed on a number of credit cards. Thanks to this wonderful economy, I'm struggling to keep food on the table. Needless to say, I cannot pay you guys a penny. But it has to be said anyway. Oh well, I tried working with my credit card peeps but all they did was jack my rates to the point I could no longer make the minimums.

So now it's survival mode until I get enough cash to file for bankruptsy. At least then the calls will stop. That is unless they turn off the phone first!

Saying prayers for you and your family :)
We are in the same boat.  I lost my job last year and there is nothing around our small community that compared.  I hope you can find a way of relief soon!!

Debt Collector
Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and your rights
The FDCPA is a federal law that provides residents of all states with considerable rights and protections against abusive, unfair and deceptive debt collection practices used by debt collectors. Examples of debt collection practices prohibited by the FDCPA include using profane language, lying and calling a debtor at work if the debt collector knows the employer disapproves. The debt collector must also protect the debtor?s privacy by not disclosing the debt to others such as friends, family members or co-workers.

A debt collector, as defined in the FDCPA, is anyone who regularly collects debts on behalf of an original creditor.

The FDCPA covers only consumer debt, which includes personal, family and household debt, but not business debt or any debt incurred for business purposes. Common types of consumer debt are credit card debt, automobile loans, home loans, utility bills and medical debt.

A debt collector may not contact you if, within 30 days after you are first contacted, you send the collection agency a letter stating you do not owe money. However, a collector can renew collection activities if you are sent proof of the debt, such as a copy of a bill for the amount owed.

Debt collectors may not:

?Use threats of violence or harm against the person, property, or reputation
?Publish a list of consumers who refuse to pay their debts
?Use obscene or profane language
?Repeatedly call on the telephone to annoy and without identifying themselves
?Advertise your debt
?Falsely imply that they are attorneys or government representatives;
?Falsely imply that you have committed a crime
?Falsely represent that they operate or work for a credit bureau
Illegal Actions of a debt collector include:

?Calling you at work and knows that it is inconvenient or that your employer disapproves or forbids it.
?A debt collector knows that an attorney, whose contact information is known or is easy to locate, represents you and the debt collector continues to contact you.
?Debt collectors can only communicate with other people to obtain contact
?Misrepresenting the amount, character, or legal status of a debt
?Communicating false credit information about you
?Refusing to honor your dispute or cease communication rights
?Threatening to take your property or garnish your wages without a court order (judgment).
?Intimidating you, AND your family
?Endangering your reputation, or your property
?Using profane or obscene language
?Painting the Debt and credit issues are matters of criminal law while in actuality it is civil law
?Tricking you into accepting charges for collect calls, telegrams, or a C.O.D
?Attempting to cash a post-dated check before the date written on the check
?Claiming to be an attorney or sends a letter made to look like it is from an attorney when he is not an attorney
?Sending a letter that is made to look like a government or court document when it isn't
You can sue:

You may have the right to sue a collector in a court of law. If you win, you may recover money for the damages you suffered and, in certain jurisdictions, you may recover statutory damages. In addition, court costs and attorney's fees may also be recovered.

You can report to the office of your state attorney general and the Federal Trade Commission;

Report any problems you have with a debt collector to the office of your state attorney general and the Federal Trade Commission. Many states have their own debt collection laws and your state attorney general can help you determine your rights. In addition, you may contact a local attorney to determine your legal options regarding an alleged FDCPA violation.

That is the number to the do not call registry.  I have been on the list for many years now.  They got my work number through my Ex husband whom is too glad to help since he is the reason I lost everything to begin with.  It was like being married to the government.  You work and give them everything.  Nothing ibn return.

WHERE IS MY BAILOUT?  The government can bailout a failing automobile maker in an effort to save face with said auto maker.  WHAT IS THE GOVERNMENT GOING TO DO TO HELP THE CITIZENS THAT ARE VICTIM TO THE ECONOMY?  We have American citizens everywhere that are out of work.  Single moms trying to take care of their children and no job for money.  Drawing unemployment to try to make sure the kids have food, shelter and clothing.  Never mind trying to get the supplies needed for school.  Unemployment is the only resource for any type of income.  Yet the President steps in to say CUT OFF ALL UNEMPLOYMENT!   Then you start recieving harrassing telephone calls from agencies on debt collections such as this one.  A vehicle that cost new 12,895.00 pay on said vehicle 65 months at $605.00 per month.  Gets repossessed, then get calls saying that you still owe them $19,000 plus.  I WANT RELIEF JUST LIKE GMAC!!!!!!!!!   I have it figured out----FILE BANKRUPTCY  but that too cost money and keeps the kids from eating.  So when will it stop?  How does it stop?

STOP ALL CALLS TO THIS BUSINESS!  (404) 762-1632 (404) 766-2633.  These are business phone lines.  According to the Fair Credit Reporting Act, it is illegal to contact a consumer on the job.  If phone calls persist to this business from your agency it will be considered harrassment.  One more call from you to this business the debt will be considered paid in full.  This is your warning as it has been stated verbally over the telephone and now in writing.

The one message I got was from a "David Silverman".  The recorded message didn't say who he was, what company he's from, or what he wants...which is what legitimate companies do in my experience.  Message also had something in it about pressing 1 for something or other

Oct.21st. 2009. Got a call from 1.888.306.9054 from someone, they left a message and asked to call them back at an extension 9308.

I'm guessing by looking at these comments, they're collectors. I will definately not call them back, lost my job a month ago, would not be able to help myself or them right this moment anyways, but thanks for the info.

Many of those annoying prerecorded telemarketing calls will be history starting Sept. 1. The Federal Trade Commission said Thursday that it is banning these "robocalls" to consumers, unless the telemarketer has written permission from a customer that he or she wants to receive these calls. Violaters will face penalties of up to $16,000 per call.

?American consumers have made it crystal clear that few things annoy them more than the billions of commercial telemarketing robocalls they receive every year,? said Jon Leibowitz, Chairman of the FTC. ?Starting September 1, this bombardment of prerecorded pitches, senseless solicitations, and malicious marketing will be illegal. If consumers think they?re being harassed by robocallers, they need to let us know, and we will go after them.?

The ban does not apply to recorded informational messages such as those that notify people about flight cancellations or school delays.

After September 1, consumers who receive prerecorded telemarketing calls but have not agreed to get them should file a complaint with the Commission, either on the ftc.gov Web site or by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP

I returned the calls twice to inform them that they have the wrong number yet the calls continue.

Called 3-4 times a day (hang up calls)for almost 2 weeks, then they stopped.  The one message I got was from a "David Silverman".  The recorded message didn't say who he was, what company he's from, or what he wants...which is what legitimate companies do in my experience.  Message also had something in it about pressing 1 for something or other.  Doesn't matter, cause I'm not interested.  If it's important, and they are really trying to reach YOU, they wouldn't keep calling without leaving a real message, hoping you'll answer one day.  Idiots!

they have been calling me for weeks looking for 2 different people I've had my phone number since Jan this year also so who knows if they had it before or just gave a false number to this agency. I finally called them today and was told my number had been removed already and i told the lady well if so then why am i still getting calls from you. So she said they'd be sure it had been removed and i shouldn't get more calls if i do then i'll have the number blocked thru my phone company

Addendum to my above post.  They have been calling me several times a day since Friday.  On Sat they left a message for someone with a different name, but the lady didn't say who they are or what they want, just "Call me back."  Last night they called every 15 min between 6-7pm (dinner time).  It's so annoying, I turned the ringer off.

If this is really a collection agency and not a telemarketer, is it even worth it to report them to Do Not Call??  Even that involves red tape.

They keep calling me leaving message that they are looking for my sister who lives 3,000 miles away and has a different last name. I don't know how / why they are calling me. I finally called them back and told them stop calling because I couldn't help them, so we will see what happens.
They left a # of 1-888-306-9054 in the voicemail.
