I'm thinking about trying to payback a $2000 lone I took in 1989 but now it's almost 8000!!!
Please let me know if they will really help me - bring it down or work with me? I'm in my 60's and only have a small income. They have been calling and writing, making me very nervous afraid of what they will do! Thank you for any info you can give me, Becky

Most people don't realize that older student loans were 'sold' at pennies on the dollar by the Gov. To these collection agencies to try and collect as they may. Once the Gov sold them...the Gov, will no longer come after the $$.  They won't attach your pay...or take it via IRS.
So....depending on your own decision, you can pretty much ignore the collectors, as they have no real power to collect. They may threaten this...and that, but they are full of it.
I owe thousands from a loan(s) from the 90's..... I am currently on. Gov/VA pension/disability. If the Gov could attach it....they would. They don't, because they no longer own it. Just sayin'.

I don't owe on a student loan (I finished school in 1984!) or anything else.  It has to be a scam.

Just rec'd a call from Performant Recovery regarding a student loan (looked up their #) owed by a family member.  The caller stated could not be specific because it was regarding a personal business matter but I told the caller I know you are collections.  I advised the caller if that be the case you need to find another way to get in contact with this person, calling me is a wasted call.

Oh yes, they advise you the call is being recorded; I was sharp but didn't say anything that required an apology.

Yes I did recieve your call and yes I know what my husband owes but now since you all can call my home up to 10 times in a day at all hours and now relizing who what you are why wont oyu answer your phones so this can worked out...  I don't owe you but my husband does well not you his student loans and since he is now employed we can pay but wait NO one answers the phones or returns the calls I have been calling you like you call me and guess what no calls today have I beat you to the punch... come on he owes he knows and  he wants to pay what are you prolonging this so you can garnish wages I mean this is what it seems if you cant return a call but yet you can have a machine call my home from 8am to 9pm every hour on the hour ok give or take  a few minutes..  since there is a employee on here making comments why not answer the phones so people who want to pay CAN... smh can't win here can we....  go a head call my house again PLEASE and be human or speak that would even be better...I could almost say your as bad as Aunt Salle Mae, they call even when your caught up to collect for the next month.......  should be a law on that but until then I will pay what he owes but cant pay you Performance if you dont call or answer your phones .......  

Got a message from said #.  She mentioned her name and stated that someone had listed me as a reference in a job application.  Googled the #, I haven't called them back.  

Received a call at my job from Shelly Johnson from Performance, phone number 888-335-6267, Ext. 6506.  Wanted information about my daughter, i.e., is she still married, where does she live, phone number.   I have no idea how she got my work number.  

Got a phone call from this number and they asked if we knew our neighbor and we said yes then they asked if we knew our neighbors daughter who is in her 40's said yes oh well can you give her my name and number..uh really?? Thats the tactics the collection agencies are up to now??? Calling people in your neighborhood to track people down thats ridiculous!!!! Her name was Marissa Simpson "supposedly" 1-888-335-6267 x3619

They keep calling my business number looking for one of the owners.  ALEXIS is her name.  Sometimes she'll call and act like he's a friend of hers.  Now she keeps calling and says "he's gonna want to talk to me."  She asks why he hasn't returned her calls, as if I'm keeping him from her.    I don't think she should keep calling the business line and harassing me.  I have nothing to do w it.

These people keep harrasing my ELDERLY father with calls - of course he doesn't have a student loan!!  We handled this 6 months ago and now they are starting to call again.  Very rude people.  They claim it's a company called PRI but won't tell us who they are and what they want.  Obviously they have the wrong person and we told them that previously.  They will get reported to the BBB for harrassment.

This company has been harrassing my elderly father about a student loan that he has nothing to do with.  They called 6 months ago, we told them it was someone else with the same name and the calls stopped then but now he is receiving them again!  I told them to stop bothering him and stop with the calls.  They have the wrong person!!

These people called me at my office yesterday. When I answered a woman named Natalie Scott just started rattling off about how she was calling on behalf of the department of education to collect student loan debt but she was here to help me avoid wage garnishment. I called them back after work and quickly realized none of this made any sense. The only information of mine she had to start with was my name and where I worked. She asked me to verify my social security number and when I just made one up she didn't even notice. She refused to let me speak to a supervisor, she had no employee id, and when I called back the second time she had no record of any previous conversations. I asked how i could know the payments i gave them would be applied towards my debt and not just pocketed by them and her response was "trust me". When I told her how unbelievable this all was she kept saying "no this is a legit company". False. This is a huge scam. I have had to report this to the credit bureau.it was my fault for ever speaking to these fools at all. Also, try calling back and see if they answer. Make up a social security number and they'll still talk to you! It's totally legit! These people are awful and I don't understand how this has gone on so long. None of this is real. Although the company they claimed to be from exists, the number they call from is not related to that company. Within a few minutes you will likely realize this is a scam and these people are unintelligent criminals.

Recieved a call from Haley Brooks today. She was extremely courteous and professional. I had done a repayment with them in which the rep was extremely evasive and asking for way more than I could afford threatening me with garnishments and offsets. I got in over my head about 7 months ago and defaulted again. She called up asked if I was still employed and a single mom of 3 told her yes, and she automatically put me on an income contingent pay agreement for the next 9 months, asking 10% of what I was paying before.  had absolutely no problem paying her. They need more people like that at DCS.

this guy named Lance Mathew from Grand Rapids Mi called and asked for a family memember, he was told "sorry may i take a message" the mans voice changed to a more happier tone and said "Oh umm can you?, was told yesss..... thats when the "Red Fllag went up" the call seemed strange,The caller sounded somewhat new on the job and said he was needing to get in contact,wouldnt say why.

Got the call yesterday from a Chris, now today from a man named Isaiah Crowe. They ask for my husband and I tell them he's not here because they always call when he's not home. The men were not rude or mean but I had no clue who they were, figured it was collections. My husband and I both have student loans but were defrauded by the online university we were studying with and are having one heck of a time getting them to fix the issue. After reading this site, I now have a better understanding of how I will be dealing with these calls though.

I got a call from a man named lance Matthews he said he was with a company called PRI he left the number 888-335-6267. he was lookin for my mom but she does live here anymore and he starts asking question about how to get intouch with her and where she is now I said ill deliver his message and hung up

I get calls from this number all the time. I owe money to no bank or credit company.  I am getting these calls because my 52 year old son gave this number as a contact number many years ago when he worked out of the country.
I want the calls to stop. I have consulted my attorney and she says I have no obligation to answer the questions other then what I already have done. Yet they keep calling. I believe this is a case for harassment.

Calls have come from Brandon Matthews.  He says he's with PRI and won't tell me what the letters stand for or anything else about the company.  He asks for Pete, my husband.  He's looking for information about someone else.  I told him I would give Pete the callback number, 888-335-6267, but not to hold his breath, as Pete feels the same way I do about giving information to strangers who won't identify their companies.  When I look the number up, it is identified as DCS (Diversified Collection Services).  The man who calls himself Brandon Matthews said he would continue to call until he got a response.

I got multiple phone calls from them in one day. Florida law states that you can only call once a day. I am an independent contractor and somehow they got the number of one of the people I do work for. They called that office and harassed them as well. It seems like it is a scam they are saying something about student loans which I do have but they are all in deferment status. She got upset with me when she figured out she couldn't scare me anymore and now I will be launching a lawsuit against them for harassing practices.

Person called today.  Said his name was Isiah Crow, looking for my ex-husband.  I asked him what it related to, and he said he wanted to "relay some information".

Scott is this a legitimate company? If they are, why don't they leave a name of the company?

company keep calling wife job asking other emplyees about her pay ,when she work,asking for her phone number etc. company never sent a letter to the house,they calls her job 4 to 5 times daily,now its to the point my wife is  getting in trouble for personal calls from a person she dont know, and managers ask them to call her house or mail infomation,for the are disrupting a place of busness.they wont stop calling and dont leave any info

These people called my mom two days in a row and gave two different names.  I called them back and they said they were collecting my student loans on behalf of the department of education and that I will be subject to wage garnishment if I don't set up payments with them.  However, I brought my loans out of default three months ago and am already on a payment plan with Fannie Mae.  I even got a letter from the Dept of Ed congratulating me for getting my loans out of default.  I don't know if they're trying to scam people or they're just stupid...either way, don't give them your information unless you're really, really sure they're legit.

wanted all kinds of information on my family, and account numbers, wanted me to pay 200.00 a month. finally hung up on them

So I got a message at WORK that this number had called me so when I got home I looked it up......Oh my gosh where do these people get the idea of calling people at work. They said to give the message of Rachel Denver account and the number 888-335-6267 ext 6644. Needless to say I will not be calling them back.

just annoyed... If a person tells you that you cannot call them at work and to stop why do you continue to do it. You know that that is illegal right.  Premier my a$$. Get your info right before you keep buggin g the wrong people.

I have received harassing phone calls from a Mr, Chris Campbell.  He has called my family members and as even gone so far to call and harass my neighbor's.  This is very uncalled for and unprofessional.

I was called by Matthew Cook who called from 1-888-335-6267. He said he was from DCS and he wanted to contact my Neice K. I asked was does DCS stand for and why do you want to get in touch with her. He gave me no further  information so i told him to get lost and don't call me again.
